Anyone In Henryford Hospital Nursing Program

Published

hello, guys wanted to know how is the nursing program at henryford hospital? how different is it from the school besides it being no breaks meaning it runs straight thru for 16 months. versus the school having a break in the summer. i have an interview coming up for the program so, i'm just a little bit nervous and sacared.

are some of teachers over there the same as the college?

is it the same workload?(which i would believe that it is, it's just that your going straight tru)

are the supplemental classes helpful?

overall, how is it ? and oh i forgot that i do know that all of your clinicals are at the hosital except for ob,peds and your psych rotation which is a plus.

i need all of the advice that i can get.:D

and i graetly appreciate it:bowingpur

hey, guys i see that everyone is off subject here. i mean, everyone is intitled to their own opinion regardless of what but, don't u guys feel that bickering back and forth with one another is a bit childish u people seem to always take quick offense to everything a person says and truthfully it isn't that serious. and no i was not apart of the conversation but i am the one who started this thread wanting to chat about hfhs nursing program it is just the conversation has gotten way out of hand for absolutely no apparent reason. guys u all need to have a sence of humor ,learn not take things to heart and learn to just laugh alittle

none of us are perfect ,we all have flaws.

i hope u all have a great day and good luck with school!!!

so now can we get back to the subject

my sense of humor is just fine, thanks!

so is my sense of loyalty. if i want to counter a misconception, i absolutely will. i am tremendously loyal to hfcc and i'll correct an inaccuracy when i see it. feel free to read. or not. but please don't chide me, dear. i do know a smidgen about the program.

I know I am a little late in the game but here is the info I have on the hospital program. They have 60 spots to fill. they choose hospital employees first. it is a very intense program because you work and you get no break. Next they do take students from the college, but the only one I know that was asked to come and interview was a 4.0 student and she declined based on the fact that there is no break AND you have to commit to the hospital for three years past graduation. getting out: you can but if you do you have to pay back the money for the education you have received mid way or after you graduate, a broken contract is a payment.

hope that helps.

yes i know i'm a little late also but, yes i aactually started the program at the hospital dor two weeks then i quit it do to the fact that they had many stipulations to their program and with them paying for the program. which alot of people don't know about. it was simply just tooo much they expected of u and for any reason if u didn't comply u had to pay the money back. if u failed a class then u were kicked out and u had to pay the money back not only that if u were to get kicked out u had only 10 days to give them back there money. i mean for some they might not care but, for me it wasn't that serious u have to know all of the rules and stipulations to understand what i'm talking of.

and to top it off they were not flexible at all as far as pm clinicals u know. u are in class from 8am to 5pm mon thru wed and sometimes 8am to 8pm

i mean the hours are just too long. don't get me wrong had it fit my schedule and it wasn't so many stipulations i would have gone thru it. i wasn't that desperate, especially since i'm alreday established with a good job soo i just told the dean at the school that i would start at the college in aug like i originally planned

it is great that the program is at the hospital so i do tell all who can do it and don't care about the stipulations to do it

and another thing was that i wasn't abale to work contingent for the 3 years once finished with the program it is simply alot for people to think about

if u can do it, and it fits your needs go for it!!!!! because u will definitely do well they offer all the help in the world to get u thru.

good luck to alll:yeah: and for u who will be in, in aug see u there:nurse:

Excited 08,

Glad you gave it a try. You know what you can and cannot do or may be unable to do and that is an awful lot to pay back if you do not succeed. Good luck to you in the traditional program.

Other than that... so far so good the instructors are really cool, they let you know everything you need to know in order to do well its almost like... you can't lose. Though everyone functions at a different pace so for some it can be a bit much. And although we cover a good deal of material, it's not overwhelming. The long day's on monday its just study time class is over by 12 or 2 study time until 5pm and they're even flexible with this. Today class was over by 12 and we met with clinical instructors at appointed times for a Videotaped Assessment to critique our interaction skills with clients and the rest of the day is ours.

It seems like a lot, depending on who you are and your current situation; but if you have a positive outlook on things you will succeed. :twocents:

i appreciate your attitude and i wish u all well. i know that u will do well because yes it is almost like a given but, however saty on top of your studies and make sure that u study a couple of hours a day and i know that u will do well

good luck!

and its funny because my first two teachers for 120 and 126 are still (moderator edit of instructor names) lol

(moderator edit of instructor name) said the program is the exact same as the hospital and that they follow all of the same guidelines as far the school material goes.

so once again i believe that they are doing whatever is necessary for the students to pass and be successful that is if we do our part. so yes they are the exact same other than your program is straight thru and mines have a break and also shorter days

good luck and keep me updated on everything

i'm soooooo excited for u all:d

well excited08, i'm glad that you are doing what is best for you:) i must say, i wish i could have taken your spot, i got laid off about 3 weeks ago and i wish i could take full advantage of it if you know what i mean. i kept wondering what i would do when they called me for the program as far as my job is concerned and well.................i guess i don't have to worry about that any more, lol.

i'm in the henry ford employee partnership program. we will be graduating in august. we are the second group of mostly employees to be graduating from this extended campus program. basically it's the same as on campus but you finish in 16 months. the workload is the same but we are different in that we also have to maintain a certain amount of hours on our jobs which is tough. of the original 60 that started in may of 2007 there are roughly 20-25 of us left. when people drop or fail a course they pull from the college to fill the slots but you still have to sign a 3 year work commitment with the health system if you join our 'special' group because they are paying for the purpose of having future employees. you don't have to work downtown at the main campus just anywhere in the health system full time as an rn. i'm sure you have lots of questions as i did when i began, with not many people willing to give you a straight answer. i wish there had been someone to offer advice about this program when i started so if anyone wants to contact me offline i'd be happy to give ya some advice. :coollook: so you have less of this :banghead: later on. you can email me privately too.

Whew! That's an amazing statistic. Ouch.

reflections... i was just stolling down memory lane and happened upon some of my old posts. well you guys im done, i came , i conquered. it was all so silly, the previous posts, the bickering and the nonsense. my seemingly arrogance, the "cakewalk". its all been a very humbling and wonderful experience.

yes, i even had ... (just because of all the eating me up i was told would happen, i personally for the first time in hfcc history requested that ... take me as a student in her clinical group) she was fairly impressed. she didn't even give me a hard time :) although my careplans and assessments looked as if they'd been bled on, i accepted the challenge with grace and i did pretty good! even receiving a letter of recommendation for my first job as a nurse intern at a wonderful place in hfhs! i'm also waiting on my att and studying for nclex.

my experience involved sacrifice, and hard work. i lost many peers along the way. i never said it would be easy. but i was one of the ones who made it and i have all of you to thank for it. anytime i found myself getting weary, i just remembered all of the things shared among the threads some nice... some not so nice. unfortunately they no longer offer this program, my learning has yet only begun and i am proud of my hfcc diploma (you all made me that way;) its sad that my fellow nurse interns or new rn's of 4 year universities give me that "there there" "good for you" response when i tell them where i graduated from. all i have to say is actions speak louder...

thanks and good luck to all!

gentle tos reminder:

while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. while allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

thanks

I remember that post like it was yesterday!

Nursing School is a very humbling experience. No one can understand how difficult and stressful it is until you go through it. I'll bet you won't be shy to set the next person straight that belittles the community college!

And you made it! Congratulations! Just one more hurdle and you will be an RN!!
