hello, guys wanted to know how is the nursing program at henryford hospital? how different is it from the school besides it being no breaks meaning it runs straight thru for 16 months. versus the school having a break in the summer. i have an interview coming up for the program so, i'm just a little bit nervous and sacared.
are some of teachers over there the same as the college?
is it the same workload?(which i would believe that it is, it's just that your going straight tru)
are the supplemental classes helpful?
overall, how is it ? and oh i forgot that i do know that all of your clinicals are at the hosital except for ob,peds and your psych rotation which is a plus.
i need all of the advice that i can get.
and i graetly appreciate it:bowingpur
Personally Candygirl (or whatever your name is) I could care less about what you feel. Your comment did not sting (I am not that thin skinned) and no, definitely not insecure. What worries me is your attitude and how it will determine the kind of nurse you become. Judging from your previous posts, you come across as though you feel very superior. Maybe I am wrong, but that is how you come across to me.
I went to HFCC's nursing program. It is NOT easy. If anyone thinks they can go into that program with a cocky attitude, you better check it at the door. If you don't, the instructors will.
I happen to know a couple of the professors at HFCC who teach the nursing program. If you come in with an attitude, they'll be more than happy to straighten it out for you.

(moderator edit of instructor names),my two favorite instructors. you'll really be in for it if you get them for clinicals. especially, (moderator edit of instructor name) i've seen other students' careplans. lots of red...look like someone bled on it after she got through with it.
i've seen (moderator edit of instructor names) really go off on a student in the middle of clinical. it was not fun. in peds i did poorly on the first test, she specifically told me "i know you can do better on the next test and if you don't, i will kick your butt". needless to say, i did much better on the second test. my eval for the clinical was very good in the end. she said i grew a lot.
hey, guys i see that everyone is off subject here. i mean, everyone is intitled to their own opinion regardless of what but, don't u guys feel that bickering back and forth with one another is a bit childish u people seem to always take quick offense to everything a person says and truthfully it isn't that serious. and no i was not apart of the conversation but i am the one who started this thread wanting to chat about hfhs nursing program it is just the conversation has gotten way out of hand for absolutely no apparent reason. guys u all need to have a sence of humor ,learn not take things to heart and learn to just laugh alittle
none of us are perfect ,we all have flaws.
i hope u all have a great day and good luck with school!!!
so now can we get back to the subject

trust me when i say, that when someone says they think hfcc's nursing program is easy because it's at a community college and they are going to cakewalk through it, i am taking that person's words with a grain of salt. because i know from experience that that person's ego is gonna be knocked about a dozen notches down. have a nice day.
back to topic.
as far as i know, the program at the hospital is for employees only. not sure whether they accept students from hfcc. i know the instructor for the hospital program. she's very good, willing to help you understand something if you don't understand it. she is (moderator edit of instructor name) i recommend her for med/surg especially. i know she teaches fundamentals too.

yes i believe and understand what your saying but, my thing is that has nothing to do with u, me , or them let them say whatever they feel u never know nursing school may be a cakewalk for that person just because it wasn't or isn't a cakewalk for u, me or them.
i mean it as simple as this, you guys don't know who that is and what they are capable of on the other end of the net. for all u guys know that could be a wiz on the other end. all i'm saying is that u guys never know.
because it is very possible that nursing school could be a cakewalk for that person.
guy like i said have fun stop taking everything so offensive:d

is nursing school a cakewalk for you? just curious. yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion. which is why i was stating mine.

actually, i have a ton of affection for them both. if you're not full of yourself, they will bend over backwards for you. i will miss them tremendously. in fact, i think candycane should have them both, since everything will be such a breeze anyway. :rckn:

i actually do like (moderator edit of instructor name). she said i was good with the babies. she did yell at me at clinical once. but she did that to every student. (moderator edit of instructor name) was great. she helped me understand drug calc. i have tremendous amounts of respect for both.

It's too bad that attitude is still out there.
When I graduated from h.s. in the 80's, NO ONE from my little catholic school would have been caught DEAD going to a community college. That was for LOSERS!
I went to U of M, and have to admit I sort of looked down on my friends who "stayed at home" at U of M Dearborn or WSU.
Two years later, I swallowed my pride and transfered to U of M Dearborn. My grades were ok transferring in, but I was miserable living away from home. I was so much happier at the smaller school.
Now, I'm in the nursing program at a Community College. I had the option of going the accelerated route at WSU or the CC. I have to admit, part of my decision was based on my own prejudice that I would have an easier time at the CC.
I don't think that is the case at all. The program is tough. 80% to pass, three exams, 7 week classes, no "extra credit" - no exceptions! Just by getting sick for a week you are very endangered of being dropped from the program if you can't catch up.
It's sad that that perception is still out there, and I'm even ashamed that I had the same condescending attitude myself just a few months ago.
I try not to let it bother me, but sometimes it does - yet I don't want to get defensive. I was at a function not too long ago where someone was going back to school to get her masters in psych. She was saying how hard it is to go back being older with a family. When I told her I knew firsthand and told her I was in nursing school, her face brightened up and she said, "Where are you going? Madonna?"( I don't know why she thought I was going there)
When I told her Schoolcraft, her face frooze. Then, after an uncomfortable pause, she said "Well, GOOD for you!" as if I just pulled myself out of the gutter.
I hope CandyGirl does well in whatever program she goes to, and if she ends up in the nursing program at a CC she is PROUD of herself as well!
