Hi everyone...

I have a friend who sent an email asking about this...and this is exactly how the person spelled it. I tried googling it...but came up empty. I know sometimes diseases have odd names, but I've never heard of this in the 14 years I've been a nurse. I know the spelling could be wrong, obviously and I did try alternate spellings with google, as well.

Anyone know the answer? I knew if anyone knew it, it would be someone here!!! :)

Thanks to anyone who can help!!!

Specializes in ER/Trauma.

No idea.

The only Carbonneau I know is the indefatigable Guy Carbonneau!

cheers,

I'm stumped. I also googled it using several spelling variations and checked the NIH/NORD database of rare disorders and came up empty.

Let us know if you find any more info. Perhaps the friend who emailed you could shed some light.

Specializes in tele, oncology.

The closest I can come up with is Guillian Barre...if I even spelled it right. Just b/c they both start with "G" and sound French.

Specializes in Peds/Neo CCT,Flight, ER, Hem/Onc.

:yeahthat:

I'm with MamaD. When Guillian Barre is pronounced CORRECTLY I think a non-medical person could come up with Gale Charbonneau.

What about something like Lennox-Gastaut? Again, not very close, but some rhyming.

Search NIH/NORD again for disorders named for individuals with names of French origin ...? :wink2:

Specializes in Staff nurse.

Put it in the search engine on Yahoo, it comes up with a few different places to click on.

yeah, i searched yahoo as well. and i first thought of guillain-barre...because my friend is saying it's a rare disease...it makes sense. she just wrote down what the doctor said and asked me about it, but i told her i've never heard of such a thing. *shrugs* she asked for prayers, as the person is now on life-support. it is a relative of one of my friends, so i am not familiar with the person who's sick.. and sure don't want to ask so many questions of my friend as she is upset.

thanks to everyone who answered!!! i know if ANYONE would know about this, it would be someone from here, because the world's smartest are all here!!! :) if anyone later comes up with anything...let me know! thanks again to all who answered :)
