I know some people say St. David's doesn't repsonse to applicants as fast as Seton do but..it has been two weeks since I sent my online application. Does anyone hear back from them? should I just call them instead?
so frustrated...never end job hunting..

I applied about a month ago and still have not heard back anything. I don't think I will get that position because their initial confirmation emailed indicated that if you don't receive a response from them within 2-3 weeks, they probably have contacted other applications.

Isn't St. Davids on a hiring freeze? I know the Austin one is.

I applied a while back as well and have been in slight conversation with the GN Nurse Recruiter. She informed me that they have been/are still waiting on the managers to decided if they want/need GNs. My last correspondence was approximately 2 weeks ago and there is still no change from the initial contact. I would not put all of my eggs into the St.David's Internship...there are other places in the area that are making contact! Hope that helps.
There is Scott & White(Sept start) and Seton(October start) that are also other options for the Austin area. I was just accepted into the Pediatric internship at the Children's Hospital at Scott & White. Good Luck!!!

I'm going to ask you a ton of questions. I want to get into the NICU internship program at Scott & White after graduation in December. Was pediatrics your first choice? When did you apply? What was the interview process like?
I live in Austin but Scott & White is definitely my first choice. I think I am one of the few people that actually likes Temple! I emailed a nurse recruiter and they got back to me the next day. I was impressed. Whenever Seton came for recruitment fairs at school they made it seem like the only chance you had to get hired after graduation was if you were already a tech there. Kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I'm also interested in St. David's but it seems like they are a little slow to get back to people. I was hoping to have an internship in hand by the time I graduate. We'll see what happens.
Thanks for letting me ask all these questions. Good luck in your internship program!
Ok...lol...so Peds is what I want to do with my life(I do NOT like adults) so yes it was my first choice. I would have chosen PICU, but I am happy with general peds for the duration of the internship. It will be a good foundation I think. I applied to a posting june 19th(a few jobs actually:D) and received a call back (june 29th) to set up an interview for july 9th. Then interview was VERY laid back and comfortable. The nurse manager for the floor was awesome and the nurse supervisor was great as well. They both asked me questions, but it felt more like we were chit-chatting more than anything. Well S&W was NOT my 1st choice, however I believe it was God's choice for me:heartbeat.
I received an email today from he Nurse Recruiter at St. David's that gives the impression that there are still no positions available. The email was definitely one that was sent to ALL and not just me. It asked for those who were still interested (went back to those that applied up to 6months prior) to respond back so that they could be maintained on a list? i guess for a future call.
Go for what you want hun. I am not familiar with the NICU, but I would definitely get in contact with someone asap so that you have everything they are requiring. They offer the NICU internship in Jan and June only so don't miss the deadline!
May I ask, what makes you soooo into S&W??? I hope I answered all of your questions:nurse:
Thanks for the quick reply and answers to my questions. :)
There are a lot of reasons Scott & White is my first choice: Their NICU is in the top 3% for survival in the world. Less babies dying will make me a much happier nurse. They are a top 15 teaching hospital, and top 100 overall. Plus I have heard nothing but good things from people who work there. It sounds like they really take care of their employees. They have neonatal transport, which is what I want to do a few years down the road. On the application it says they are a level 4 NICU, which I don't know what makes it so different from level 3, but I want to work in at least a level 3, so they have that covered too.
I have heard that all the hospitals in Austin are on a hiring freeze for new grads. I know of only 1 girl that graduated in May that got a job at Seton in the ICU. A few others had interviews cancelled at the last minute. Kind of dissapointing.
The nurse recruiter at S&W told me that the job postings will be online starting mid-September. I'm already working on the application packet so I can send it in all at once they begin accepting them. I too would be ok with being hired on in peds if NICU is not possible. I don't like adults either.
Thanks again for the info and good luck! I hope you like it.
Im sure I will be posting how my days are going once i do start so look out for that!
Thanks and Good luck to you as well:yeah:.

I will just say... even though my best friend's mother is the workforce development manager for St. Davids.. I STILL couldn't get an interview with them. I applied and was persistent in staying in touch wtih the recruiter.. kept calling... waited forever. It was a nightmare. Seton calls back way faster and got me an interview, even though there weren;t openings in the area I wanted. I took a job with Seton and even though that unit is not where I'll probably stay for years, it got my foot in the door with the hospital system so I can transfer later.
Good luck with St. Davids. They are NOT good about working with applicants.
Also, all the Austin hospitals are on a hiring freeze to some extent.. some more than others.

I received an email from them on July 31 and here is what they wrote
You are receiving this email because you have applied for a Graduate Nurse position with St. David's HealthCare within the past 6 months. We would like to determine which of our applicants are still seeking a New Graduate Nurse position with St. David's HealthCare. Please let me know if you have not begun working in the RN role, and are still in search of your first RN position. We will continue to keep your application on hold for future GN positions to become available. If I do not receive a return message from you, I will assume you have found another opportunity, or no longer wish to remain in our pipeline of candidates.
For those of you who are still searching for a position with St. David's, you do not need to reapply to the GN position. You are also not eligible to apply directly to the RN position openings on our website as they are for experienced nurses only.
Yep... I got that same email last year, and that's about when I gave up on them. It's ridiculous. It's like, thanks for acknowledging that I applied within the last 6 months. I didn't even get that email until after I'd already gotten a job somewhere else.
In the last week or so St. David has new postings for RN Grad program so i'm wondering whether i should apply again coz the last time i applied is less than 6 months.
