Anyone hear from SUNY Downstate for Summer '09 yet?

Published

I applied in September and haven't heard, it's pretty frustrating as they said I would hear by January.

Thank you everyone. I got my letter by mail. My tests scores for the NET were 93 on the Math and 78 on the Verbal. My GPA was about 3.3. I have about 6 years working in a hospital as a Social Worker. Im assuming this work background helped me because I was very surprised to get into this school. I heard it was very difficult. I wish everyone luck who applied.

Yes, it must be your background. I heard in the open house that they look at candidates with a medical background more favorably.

I am feeling a spark of hope... Someone from the school called me today and asked me to email them my fall grade report, since it wasn't included in the transcript. I guess that means that they're at least considering my application seriously, or they wouldn't have bothered to call.

your right! admissions do not call without a reason. it might be they are considering your application. i went to the school on thursday to submit my medical forms and heard that out of 500 applications, they are considering only 40 applicants. i wish you luck!

I'm in!!!!

I got my acceptance package today.

Actually I've been in since last week without realizing it--when he called about the missing transcript, I had already been accepted but he couldn't tell me that over the phone. Yesterday he called to confirm that they have all the required information and sort of intimated that I should be expecting some good news in the mail, but he said he couldnt' tell me anything official.

Rock on it ChayaN! I am so happy for you! I also got my letter today but even though I should be celebrating, I'm really torn. I got into Columbia, Vanderbilt, and now SUNY Downstate. I'm still waiting on other schools and one grad program in Boston... but I don't know!!! It's a tough decision!

Also, there is no such visiting day where accepted students can visit and see the classrooms, faculty, current students? Is there?

I want to know more about SUNY Downstate from current students, but I don't really know any. Have any of you heard anything?

Congratulations to you all! Do any of you have kids? If you so, what is your plan concerning it? I am asking because l have two kids and need advice on this. I heard that the Summer session is killing.

nope, I don't have kids. My main concern is just Downstate or Columbia or Downstate or Columbia?

Yes, I do have kids. Six of them!!!

The summer session does seem to be a killer. The good news though is that once you pass that it should be downhill coasting the rest of the way.

My plan so far is to send 3 of them to overnight camp and 3 to daycamps. Fortunately my grandmother has very generously offered to sponsor that so I can focus on my schooling. There might be some gaps between when school ends and camp begins though, and I'll have to sort through that.

I think Downstate will be better for you because it is cheaper than Columbia. If you don’t mind the fees, you might consider Columbia. I heard in Downstate, if you start in June this year, you would graduate on May next year. After graduation, you will come back to finish the remaining classes.

Did anyone do their shopping yet at the campus bookstore? I made an appointment for my physical and I think when I go to drop off my health forms I'll go to the store and buy everything on the list. I wish there was information about which books we'll need--I'd prefer to order them in advance and have a chance to read through them before class.

that was exactly what i wanted to do last week i went to downstate. most of the books were not in the bookstore. i saw textbooks for health promotion, pathophysiology, and pharmacology . i spoke with the store manager and was told that they will get name of textbooks for summer session around may, but i don't believe that.
