I applied in September and haven't heard, it's pretty frustrating as they said I would hear by January.
Hey Caffreak, so I got into Columbia also but I am still considering SUNY Downstate although I haven't heard from them yet. I wonder how you made a decision over SUNY Downstate? I like the fact that Downstate has a smaller class size so it might be more personal. Have you compared the curriculae of both schools? I am trying to weigh both schools but it is hard to compare a combined program vs. an accelerated program... and that one of the schools has such a brand name...
Both my cousin and a friend of mine's boyfriend graduated from the Columbia nursing program two years ago. Both said that in hindsight if they had to do it again they would've gone somewhere else because they left with over 80 grand in debt (both people were accepted to the Direct Entry program, but only completed the first year instead of going right into the master's phase). My cousin said she felt it would've been good if she had gone their for her master's, but as far as just the RN license, there was nothing special about the education.
I'm just saying this as something to keep in mind incase you were still possibly holding out for Downstate, but obviously if you didn't apply anywhere else and u got into Columbia, that's great and you should go for it. I also feel if you know you got into Columbia, you have a pretty decent chance of getting into SUNY.
ChayaN- yet another friend just told me she got into Downstate- I haven't heard a/t yet but I got in Columbia so I will probably be going there. Best of luck
I wonder what that means...
Are they not interested in me, or is it just that it took them so long to record everything in my admissions packet?
I just called the admissions office....
"No, I can't give you any information on the status of your application. We have a lot of applications to review. The fact that some people were accepted already has no relevance to your application. You will hear from us eventually, one way or another. Please be patient."
The only thing l have to tell you is to be patient. Once you've completed all your pre-requisites with good grades, pass the NET exam, have good cumulative GPA with Health care or Volunteer experience, then pray and leave the rest for God. Eventually, you will get a good news. l got in last 3 weeks. Good-luck!
Thanks you guys for all of your messages. The reason why I am thinking about Downstate a lot these days is because I haven't completed all of their pre-requisites. I am currently taking a chemistry course and still would need to give them two courses in Sociology/Anthropology. So I don't want to go and enroll in those courses without knowing whether or not I got into the program, however, if I want to enroll even in online courses, I would need to find courses that would surely finish before June, the start date of Downstate's program. While I want to keep it open as an option
I did call the Admissions office today and they gave me the same answer, that I should be patient and that they will get back to me. However, I do worry since I read posts that in previous years there were ppl who got in only a month before the program started! That wouldn't be enough time to complete those prerequisites!
So at this point, I wonder if I should just enroll in those Sociology/Anthropology courses. I would want to learn the stuff since I think it would be interesting to read more on societies and communities and all... but I think shelling out more more dough for courses (that I wouldn't necessarily use directly with my future profession) would be a bit difficult. If it were a course in say, pharmacology or medical terminology or whatnot, then I would want to take those just to learn the material.. still.. I'm just bummed....

I'm pretty much done with them at this point as well - i'm already taking a class towards the program for long island university and am pretty much planning on attending there full time in the fall. From everything I've heard i don't have much faith in my chances of admission and its easier to just assume I didn't get in than worry about it every day.
How someone applied in November and already found out that they got in is beyond me.
