Anyone who got into DCCC 2008 program, HELP!

Published

Hi!

I was just wondering of all the people who got into the program this year, what were your NET scores? Did anyone get in with an 85 composite score or lower?? If so, WHAT WAS YOUR READING AND MATH SCORES? I just took my NET yesterday for the third time and got an 85 composite. Math was a 96 and reading was a 73. I know it could all be different this year, but i was just wondering because i really want to get into the 2009 program!! Anyone and everyone, PLEASE let me know!!!!

Thanks:bow:

Hello!

I didn't get in but I'm in the same boat as you! I'm applying for 2009! I got a late start and I am taking the NET on the 24th for the first time!!! I won't have enough time for a second chance so I am REALLY screwed if I don't do well enough...and I can't seem to get an answer on what well enough is! I'd also love to know what kind of score I should feel confident about. Since I kinda have all my eggs in one basket this time around!

Since you took the NET already, are the reading questions harder then the study guide like some people have said or about the same? Taking the practice test in study guide I only got a 75!

I really don't understand the point of having 90 questions in English, when its not even apart of the composite score. What was the english section like? The study guide doesn't really give you sample problems, and what if I were to do horrible, how does that or does it even effect my chances?

This test is so overwhelming! I really wish they considered more then a test score!

I haven't even gotten to an info session yet! The next one I can go to is Oct 16. Have you gone to one? Did they say how many applicants they normally have each year or anything?

One more thing! I got my criminal background check and child abuse, the criminal one I just printed off the computer, is that how you got yours?

Anyway, if you'd like to keep in touch, I think it be nice to know someone going through the same things! I'm in Springfield and I graduated from Marple, I'm married with 2 girls (4 and 2) and I'm 25! Good Luck!

the requirements on the Net test to be considered for the program are as follows. Math 60% Reading comprehension 70% and overall composite has to be 65%. I was told the composite is an average percentage of the Reading and Math combined. Good Luck to you both. Sweetie24 just study before you go. I think the test is on a computer.

Yea, I'm study like crazy! I just don't want to wait till 2010!! And other 2 year programs are so expensive. Thomas Jefferson is like $810 per credit! Harcum is $7000 a semester, and I'm married and for some reason I don't get much aid!

I knew the min. scores but just because I get a composite of 65 doesn't mean I will get a seat. I heard they expect over 200 applicants and between they 96 seats for day and 32 seats for weekend. So I figure my score needs to be one of the 132 best, I just don't know what score that is going to be or even what it was last year. It seems a lot of students starting this fall that post on here had composite scores in the 90's, I really wish I knew I had the option of a second chance if I happen to get an 80%, at least I would know I could take it again hopefully bring it up to 90% and feel confident.

It also really sucks that they make you wait so long...I think they tell you by May??

Are you currently a student there?

Hey Sweetie24!! sorry it took a while to get back with you. well i took my NET 3 times and finally passed on the third time with a composite of 85. BUT get this......They called me and told me that since i didnt wait 6 weeks in between my second and third test, they are erasing my third test score (the one that i passed) and i have to come in and RETAKE the test. I am soo upset. and i worked sooo hard to get that score. i just feel like i had it, and then it was just taken from me so fast. idk!! so i rescheduled for the 24th too! but i actually think i am going to reschedule for another day to give me more time to get the books out again, ya know.

~As for the study guide, which one do you have? I have the eriworld study guide and i belive that one really helps, if you actually learn it. And the practice tests in that study guide are very similar to the actual test. I also bought the additional practice tests from eriworld, and those are pretty close to the real thing too. Do you have any other practice tests?? I have some more, maybe we could swap?!!

~I know this test is EXTREMELY overwhelming, especially if you have other things to worry about as well, like a husband and kids!! And school, are you taking any classes this semester? But i totally agree, this is SO stressful (and i thought i didnt have to worry about this anymore! But im back in the same boat i was in a month ago!)

~The NET didnt have any English or written expression part. It just had 60 questions in math, and 33 questions in Reading Comp. And then it had some other sections like stress profile and such, but those sections dont count towards your score. So, dont worry about the written expression part.........

~And i did attend an orientation. But if you have the purple packet, then you dont really need to go. They pretty much told me everything i already knew (from reading the packet). I kinda thought it was a waste of time honestly. But they did have a teacher from the program there to answer anyones questions, so that might be helpful to you if you have any questions about the program. And i got my criminal backround check from the orientation session. But i think you can also get it online. did you have to get your fingerprints and all that?? i just moved here from Michigan, so i had to get fingerprints done.

~Yes i think we should definatly keep in touch!! It would be nice to know someone else going through the same things as me, especially because i dont know anyone from around here anyway!! But i am 19 years old, and just got married in February. I also have a 1 1/2 year old boy! Im from ridley park and taking classes at DCCC.

~And i think you will actually know if you are in the program by January 09.

Did you take the NET?? If you did, what were your scores?? I think people may be safe with an 85 composite or above........

Hey 2bNurseLove, I grew up in Ridley Park! Anyway, I am in the program now and I *think* I got either an 83 or 84 for my composite score. I know quite a few of us got in the low to mid 80's. I am pretty sure a 85 will get you in.

As for the NET, I only took it once, and that was enough for me!! But I studied my butt off for the math, and ended up having a terrible time with the reading comp stuff. I got like a 93 in math. So definitely study the reading stuff. And take any practice test you can get your hands on. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck to both of you!

Hi! Wow, I'm glad I found this thread. It seems like I'm in the same boat, too. I recently took the NET for the first time 2-3 weeks ago. I signed up to take the test again towards the end of October, just in time for the priority deadline. I knew the test had to be scheduled 6 weeks apart, so I scheduled it exactly 6 weeks later.

I tried to find out the same question, about what scores people got to get in so I know what to aim for, but haven't gotten a concrete answer. But it seems lots of people got at least the upper 80's or 90's. I'm aiming for the weekend/night program as I plan to continue to work full-time. So I need to get a really good score since weekend seats are limited.

I did great in Math, but did really bad in reading. :banghead: I hear a composite score of 85 is solid, but to ensure a seat you want to get a higher score.

I gone to an info session in Aug. and thought it wasn't worth going to. I didn't learn anything new. Everything was in the booklet. I hear the criminal background check,we can just print the one we get online. Too bad I already sent out for it on mail. If it doesn't come, I'll have to pay twice and get the online one. Hope it comes soon.

From other threads I read, it seems like people usually find out about a month or so after the priority deadline. I could be wrong, but that's what I'm reading.

I have some websites, and NET books from the library, and of course the ERI study guide. I did better on the study guide in the book then I did on the real test. I hear the $15 practice test on ERI is helpful. It gives you a feel for the test. I hear timing is what kills everyone in the reading.

2bNurseLove419 - That sucks about what happen to you on your third test. I didn't realize that too, until I read the fine print and the lady at the admission office told me. Are you applying for the day or weekend program?

Sweetie24 - Good Luck to you on taking the NET. It was nothing like I've taken before. How are you with Math and Reading Comprehension?

Ok, time to get some studying done for the test. :typing Good luck to you both!!

ARRN2B,

Are you in the day or weekend program? I'm just wondering since I'm planning on applying into the weekend program and it seems lots of people have 85+ for their composite scores.

Any advice on the reading portion? I took the NET for the first time a few weeks ago and I did somewhat bad on it. I'm aiming for at least the minimum 70% for reading just to petition as my math is good. I found the practice guide in the ERI study guide book was fine, but the actually test was harder. How did you prepare for the reading part? Did you mainly focus on the timing aspect of the test? I seem to always run out of time.

Well I took it today...I didn't do well enough though. I got an 82 math and 61 reading. I'm really bummed b/c I don't have 6 weeks before the deadline to take it again. I am kicking myself because I have ADD, but I don't have it documented with the school. I feel my medication helps but I never had this much pressure or a timed test. I wish so much that I had it documented so I could have had time and 1/2. I know with the extra time I could have done so much better. Do you think if I explain this to the school they will allow me to document my learning disability and take the test before the deadline?? Otherwise I have no clue what I should do!! I really didn't want to wait till 2010!

Does anyone know if I can take the test at another school if DCCC will accept them? I was thinking of going to Thomas Jefferson on Oct 16 taking the NET and if I pass use that. Thomas Jefferson will accept NET scores from other schools, but will DCCC still say no because of the six week rule. What a stupid rule! specially if you passed but are just trying to improve!!

Does anyone know, if I take the NET 3 times at DCCC don't get in with my scores, go to another school that requires the NET will I be able to take it again? Does the NET testing system keep track of how many times you've taken it or just the school??

Right now, I'll try to see if they will let me take again, I might suck it up and apply to Thomas Jefferson for 17,000 a year. OR I could look into LPN programs. I was looking into Folcroft vo-tech and PIT in Media, which require the TEAS. I hear the Math is harder and Reading easier, plus there is a science section to worry about since I have had no science since High School!

One day at a time! Maybe its better your 3rd test was eorificed this gives you the chance to bring it up even more!

The reading is harder on the test, mainly because you can't see prevoius paragraphs as easily as you can in the study guide. So when you get a question that asks about the last 5 paragraphs and you have 1 min to answer the question, its kinda hard to feel confident in your answer!

I did find that reading the question and the choices 1st did help, I spent so much time studying Interfernce and took for granted how easy main idea should be. I got 80 on the interfernce and 57 on main idea. I understand the main idea is in the topic sentence, its not too broad and its not too narrow. So why did I bomb it??? Because I didn't feel like I had enough time. There is no clock letting you know how much time you have left, maybe I would have done better taking my time getting the questions I answered right and if I ran out of time with 3 questions to go it probaly would have been better!

Yea I hope so. Im really sorry to hear that you didnt pass the reading. it tough! it took me 3 times, and i just barley passed, with a 73 in reading. but i know the end of oct. is the deadline, but i thought the packet said something about you could still turn in applications after the deadline, and be put on a waitlist or something. ill have to read it over again. i know it still sucks, maybe maybe if you get a great score on the NET, they might still consider you. It may be wishful thinking but worth a try. And if i were you i would definatly call Eli Johnson and explain to him your situation. he seems like a nice guy, and he may be willing to help you out.

~And I'm not sure if the NET testing keeps tracck of your scores and how many times you take it, or just the school. Since they have to erase my last test score, and have me take it a fourth time, it would make sense that just the school keeps the records. But i could be very wrong.

~ anyways, i really hope everything gets worked out, and maybe the school can work something out for you. Good luck!

~did you have any practice tests you were using, other than the eriworld ones???
