Anyone going to PHCC (Pasco-Hernando Community College) for pre-req's or NS?

Published

I am finishing up my pre-req's and would love to see if anyone is in the same boat as I am or even in nursing school. Any advice would be much appreciated! :D

I applied to RN and Night LPN.

Chris: no one is guaranteed a spot. We don't know how well people have done, or exactly how they will use the Teas score. The cutoff may be a 4.0 with a 95+ on the Teas. We just can't be sure. Everyone is just excited and anxious about the process and wanting someone to talk about this to and so here we are. That said , If I remember correctly, I believe I have a similar GPA as you. So good luck to us!

Honestly it is what it is. You've done your best and there's no reason to worry over it. On a side note PHCC is getting better with allowing more people into their programs because their waiting lists have dwindled down a lot. I started going there in 2006 and graduated in 2008 still waiting to get into nursing. I was put on a waiting list for Jan. 2010 LPN in 2007 and said no way because it was too long of a wait and I wanted the RN program. Stupid me. =) It will all be OK, you'll see.

Hi all, I am currently attending PHCC for the summer, taking all of the RN pre-req... I know, what was I thinking. 5 classes, 2 kids and a pt job.... but my first thought was to get them all done and apply for Jan 2010 RN program. However, with all the talk and the competiveness of the program I decided to put in my LPN app for both NPR and Brooksville. I figured I would try that route and then just Bridge over. I have heard that the Bridge isnt as competitive and this may be the easier way to go these days. But, after reading some of these posts I am not too sure if I even have a shot. My TEAS was only an 82..... I do live in pasco but I am very worried this will not be enough. My grades right now for summer are excellent so I guess I could always keep going with the RN for January 2010 but I just wanted to get anyone elses opinion. Also, is anyone attending summer classes to apply for Jan 2010 RN? I am taking psy, micro app, Human Nut all online, then I take A&P & Lab on Tue/Thur. I just wondered if anyone on here is in my classes. Just wanted to see how everyone is doing, what you think of the online classes, etc.

Hi,

I just finished spring semester there. I finished up my pre-reqs and just applied for the program. I went to the Dade City campus. I don't of anything so stressful as waiting for a letter either way! Good luck to you:)

I'm at Dade City for summer... Good Luck! What was your TEAS? and GPA? You are applying for RN August, correct? I am anxious to find out who gets in etc, because the TEAS is so new.

Chris,

I'm sorry if my being anxious has made you more anxious. I know my chances are good to get in, but they aren't 100%. I guess everyone has their own reasons to get worked up; mine are that I graduated with a BA in Psych and that got me pretty much the same job (and pay) I had when I was in undergrad. Only now, I have student loans. A lot of them. Luckily my dad finally got 100% disability from the VA (FINALLY) so my schooling from here to the next 2 years are paid for. But only for the next two years. So, if I don't get in this time around, I will be screwed financially and time-wise. That's pretty much why I am so worried... The need to survive! :jester:

Ladies,

This is so difficult--not only all of our hard work and preparation, but all of the waiting and speculation! The truth is, none of us know for sure if we will gain acceptance. Not one of us is a "shoe-in". It is not ideal but it is what it is. :(

Meanwhile, while we wait and stress, the best thing we can do is offer support and encouragement to one another. Certainly, be honest, but we should probably try to stay very sensitive.

Sermon complete.

I, for one, thrive on stress, so if there are any new rumors or actual information that has been obtained regarding PHCC, BRING IT ON! LOL

;)

I'm sorry I freaked out, guys. There was no place for it and my only excuse is jealousy. I can't change my GPA and that is what is so frustrating. I got a B in A&P I, from a professor who ended up quitting before he got fired, a guy who didn't give one single person an A. And my B in psych is from 10+ years ago, and since it was 4 credits, PHCC will count it as 4, unlike their PSY which is 3 credits, and they will not allow me to retake it. Not a huge difference, but in such a competitive environment, every bit helps.

So I just sort of feel wronged and hurt and mad that there is absolutely no way I can change those grades and thus no way I will get into the RN program.

Sorry I went on a tirade. It really was because I am jealous and terribly sad. :sniff:

I work for a psychiatrist so you'd think I would be more able to handle anxiety lol! I think part of me likes it... It keeps things interesting for sure. I really do hope to meet every one of you at orientation, whenever that is. That would be awesome!

Omg Chris, you gotta be kidding me! You def still have a good shot because think of all the people applying not only to PHCC, but HCC, USF, Galen, and SPC! This is not everyone's only pick so we have to just hang tight and see what happens. And, excuse me for lurking, but I see you have a Bachelors in something else? Have you considered the accelerated second Bachelors at USF? You need a 3.0 to get in (I graduated with a 2.9 :sniff:) and if I had it, I would be applying there also.

MJ I graduated with a 2.99!!! Ha!!!! Would an Acc. BSN count the classes we've taken at PHCC, because if so, my GPA is up to like 3.6 or something like that!!

I looked into the Acc. BSN program at USF but there are anumber of reasons why I didn't persue it:

1). I don't want another Bachelors, to be honest. I have one and don't need two. Esp since I want to get my Masters. A BSN is not required to get an MSN. To me, it just seems redundant.

2). I would have to retake Chem 101 Lab since I failed it back in 1999. I LOATHE chem and have never done well in it. Taking the lab, after 10 years and without the accompanying class (I didn't fail that so why take it again??) makes my skin crawl!! Sad!

3). USF requires a lot more - volunteer hours to name 1. I am going to school, working and running a house and raising a family. As much as I would love to volunteer, we simply dont have the resources for that right now.

4). My GPA - if they do not accept credits post-Bac, then I don't qualify.

Are you familiar with any other programs that offer an Acc. BSN, maybe online (non-local) with clinicals local?

Nah, that's the only acc BSN I know of, namely because I went there. And, yeah it doesn't count Post Bacc. classes, or I would have a grade boost, too! Oh well, it was worth a shot :) It doesn't matter, we;re gonna go to PHCC and then the real anxiety and stress will start with actual classes lol
