Anyone going to Modesto Junior College?

I'm just curious! I'm just starting (at the ripe 'ol age of 35, LOL!) looking into a career in nursing. I've worked in hospitals and clinics doing medical transcription for years and years, and way back when used to be a pre-physical therapy major (I've taken chemistry, anatomy, biology...don't know if they would count, as it's been several years). I would be attending MJC for pre-reqs and (fiingers crossed) the nursing program eventually and I would really love to have a student's view, how difficult it is to get into the program, any general advice, etc.

Jen, they never told us how much. I guess they received a nice donation so they wanted to help out 1 or 2 of the new nursing students. so nice! hopefully they have it for you guys too!

They said we will be taking in during the first 5 weeks of class. Before we go into med surg clinicals.

Do you know how the process works? The lady over the phone told me that there will be a day where they check you off on your practical skills and that an exam will be offered on the next day.

Nope. I didn't get in this semester, but I will be applying for the Spring semester.

I'm curious what hours/days did you go to school the first semester? I'm starting in January but wont have my paperwork from the school until late October. Also, what were the days/hours the second semester? I'm so excited!! Just trying to figure out a little of what to ecpect...

Hello everyone!!!! My name is Cynthia and in August I received my acceptance letter for Spring 2012. It's been a long time coming. I'm nervous, anxious and mostly scared. I got A's in my core sciences, but it's been at least two and a half years since i've completed them! I feel like i've lost so much of the information from Micro/Anat/Physio...does anyone else feel like that? We should start a study group, to refresh our memories. I'm up for it if anyone else already has an existing group or wants to start.

I support myself (no hubby or family to support me) and this is going to be a two year struggle for me not only academically, but financially as well. I'm just hoping I don't realize half way through that it's just not the right job for me, but i'd rather try and fail than to live the rest of my life wishing i'd at least given it a go.

I'd like to see a few familiar faces come January! :nurse:

Hi Cynthia-My name is Jenny and I also start in January. I am feeling the same...nervous, excited and scared. :) This was my first year applying to schools so I feel pretty lucky to have gotten in.

Have you recieved your packet? I haven't recived anything yet...I know the acceptance letter said we should recieve it by Novemeber 1st. I'm very anxious. Would love to start buying books so I can read ahead in some things. I think a study group to brush up on suff and maybe meeting before we start sounds like a great idea. I don't know anybody that goes to MJC or that has gone through the program. So meeting before and having a familiar face the first day of school would be great. Do you live in the Modesto area? I live near Tracy.

Hi Jenny! No I have not received my packet yet, but I'm anxious to get it and get started on the health clearance and that good stuff. I live in Modesto :) I tried posting a link to my FB account but it was taken down because it goes against the rules :( I'm not sure what kind of info we are allowed to share, but it would be awesome to be able to recognize you when I finally see you in January! Do you know anyone else who is starting in January? I don't know anyone else, but now I know you! :)
