Anyone going to Modesto Junior College?

I'm just curious! I'm just starting (at the ripe 'ol age of 35, LOL!) looking into a career in nursing. I've worked in hospitals and clinics doing medical transcription for years and years, and way back when used to be a pre-physical therapy major (I've taken chemistry, anatomy, biology...don't know if they would count, as it's been several years). I would be attending MJC for pre-reqs and (fiingers crossed) the nursing program eventually and I would really love to have a student's view, how difficult it is to get into the program, any general advice, etc.

Hi! Congrats on getting into the program for fall. I also have to take the TEAS test on monday. Pretty nervous but I've been doing review questions out of an older version study guide b/c mine has yet to arrive grrrr (I didn't realize I would have to take it so early) and so far it really isn't bad. I also plan on taking one of the online practice tests tomorrow and see my areas where I need to study. After that I'll study those areas and then take the second test probably in a couple days. Anyways I thought I would let you know my approach. How are you doing with the studying so far?

@ Jen, Thanx for the help! I will let u know if I have any questions about areas that I look into.

@ Jen & Courtnee123, I have the teas V study guide book that I have been looking through. I have had it for a while now but barely opened it all summer!! I so wish I have already taken it but I was enjoying my break a little too much. That all changed when I found out I got into the program. Its amazing how that works. haha

As for the practice tests, I still have not taken any. Two of them came in the book that I have but I would have to time & grade it myself. Do you think that it would be better if I just do the online ones instead? I know those cost money but Im not sure how much..

@ courtknee123, it sounds like you have a good plan going with your studying. I still have to review the english/language and the reading. But im probably just going to skim through the reading portion while studying because, well, its just reading. Good luck to you on the test! And are you taking it on mjc's campus?

And by the way my name is Amanda. :)

Amanda,

Yes I am taking it at MJC's campus on Monday. I did take the version A online practice test this morning and I got a 70%. What I liked most about the practice test was that afterward ATI breaks down each section and recommends certain areas that you should spend more time studying on. I ended up borrowing the version 5 manual and everything recommended to study is right in the book for me to read up on. The tests cost 37 dollars though, but I think it was worth it because I know how questions are going to be worded now and how long each section takes. It did take me an 1 hour and 45 min to do though so be prepared to sit for awhile if you do take it.:)

Hi Amanda

Did you have any preferences to where you were looking to live?

Good luck on the TEAs ladies! I'm sure you'll both do fine. The way I prepared for mine was using the prctice workbook and taking the tests in them. Then also taking the practice test online. If I could offer some advice I would say to get a good nights rest, eat breakfast, and take your time answering the questions. The test is timed but I feel you should have plenty of time for each question. I rushed through it because I was stressed about it being timed...then when I was done I realized I had lots of time left and could have slowed down. Good luck!! :)

@ Courtney, I think I will now have to take one of the online tests! Sounds like it's very helpful. Also, I have yet to find a place to live. But I will be going up there this weekend and on sunday I hope to find it!

And Jen, I usually worry about my time during tests as well. I will try to pace myself. Thanx for all of the good advice!!

@Jen thank you for the advice!

Thank you Courtney! :)

is anyone else starting out in 3rd semester for fall?

Amanda-

Well tomorrow is the TEAS, how are you doing with the studying? I focused a lot on the science b/c my other areas were passing when I took the pre-test.Good luck tomorrow with the test! if you have any questions I'll be on here today while I'm finishing up my studying :D

Good luck tomorrow!!

@ Jen

Thank you... I think I'm as prepared as I could get within a week and having work in between. Did you get your results right away?
