I'm just curious! I'm just starting (at the ripe 'ol age of 35, LOL!) looking into a career in nursing. I've worked in hospitals and clinics doing medical transcription for years and years, and way back when used to be a pre-physical therapy major (I've taken chemistry, anatomy, biology...don't know if they would count, as it's been several years). I would be attending MJC for pre-reqs and (fiingers crossed) the nursing program eventually and I would really love to have a student's view, how difficult it is to get into the program, any general advice, etc.
I'm so excited to start...those of you that got into the fall semester can you tell us what is in the packet of information your received? I understand that some schools have info that you study prior to entering the program, like medical terminology, that your tested on the first week. I'm wondering if thats the same with MJC? Just curious whats in the packet and if there's anything I should be doing now. I don't start until January. Thanks!

Im not sure what the 1st semester students got in their packet, but we did have study materials in the lvn-rn packet. You can go on the MJC site and see the class info by semester and it may help you decide what to study. I posted the link bellow for you. Hope this helps!

hey Jen, sorry it took me so long to reply. but the packet came with instructions on what to do next, including a brief course description, uniform info, etc. It also had info about the health clearance along with a few papers that you will need to fill out and have a physician fill out. The health clearance includes vaccines that you will need done: 3 hep B, Tdap, 2 MMR, 2 Varicella, 1 flu. U will also need to complete a 2 step TB test and a physical. The packet also had info about the drug screening and the background check. The due date for all three of those tasks is sept. 16th, just in time for clinicals. So u can start on it, but im sure you will have time when you get your packet. There were a few other papers that had Q&A's about the clearance and a chance to get a grant if you write a paper on why you wanted to become a nurse and why the grant would be helpful, etc. Lastly, the course description packet told us to start studying prefixes, suffixes and abbreviations before the semester starts. there are a lot of them so I would check into that. You can find it on the mjc adn site. Hope this helped. take care!! :)
