Anyone going to Modesto Junior College?

I think there was one other person on this thread that got in for spring...a few that started in Fall and I haven't seen them post again. Must be busy? :uhoh21: I will try and look back through the thread and maybe send her a pm that we're thinking of meeting. But I don't know anyone personally yet. I am so excited!! It still doesn't feel real...

I haven't recieved mine either. I did call the Allied Health office at MJC yesterday and spoke to ---. She said the person that usually mails them out has been out on disability. She told me that most likely the lady would be getting her a list of what and who to send packets to...hopefully we would have them around the 10th or so. I also asked if there is anything we should be doing in the meantime. --- suggested scheduling a doctors appointment for early december for a physical. By then we should have the forms for our doctor to complete. I'm getting so excited!! I just want my packet already so I know what to expect. Would love to know what my shcedule is going to be.

Hello jenny and cynthia. Thanks for the info on the packets! Do you know if we have to pay the regular fee schedule for health clearance stuff in student services?

They updated the website for allied health and said they hope to have the packets out by the 10th and

they would update us on any delays.

@ Jen you said something about a schedule with the packets is that when we register? Do you know?

Courtney-I don't know about the schedule...I'm guessing that once we have the packet we'll be able to register, but thats just a guess. I'm just anxious to know what to expect. :)

Not sure about the student services question either...

I just spoke to ------- in the Allied Health office again...she said packets have not gone out

yet. They are hoping by next week. Argh! I'm so anxious to find out my schedule and register.

Can any current students please post what the usual 1st semester schedule is like? Should I expect to be in school everyday and what times usually? Any input on your experiences would be great!! :) Thanks

Aww mannnn another week of waiting.

@jen if you go onto mjc.edu and look up their catalog for nursing program it tells you the classes that we need to take...I think its nurs260 and nurs261 or something like that. From there you can search for classes in the register section and it will show you the days and times of the classes. That will give you a general idea until we get our packets!

Courtney-I figured it out. :) I looked at the Nursing Handbook online and then the class schedule. You are right its Nurse 260 and 261. Looks like we'll be in class m-th from 7:30 till 11:00 or 12:00 depending on the day. Not bad!

So it was officially updated on the allied health page..... packets delayed again until the 18th just in time for the holidays! I have no clue if I should be starting titers/physical/immunization/TB stuff. Any suggestions from nursing students? Did you get them done from just your doctor and then have the school's nurse check you off? Did anyone use the student services with any of these?

Hi JenApos!

I saw your post regarding 1st semester’s schedule. Don’t let the catalogue fool you. J At least you know how to plan your life around class time. But once the skills start, you are usually in the lab practicing your skills after class. The lab used to stay open until 5pm but I’m not sure if that has changed. You’ll be in the lab practicing, checking off skills with peers, and then checking off your skills with the lab teacher/instructors. You’ll have a pre-test write up to do out of the book before you can check off on your skills. Then every other week, you’ll have a written test on the skills. It gets really hectic when you throw in Clinical because then your having to find time to do prep for clinical, study for theory exams, practice skills, study for skills exams, and study for abbreviation quizzes. But I must say at about half way through when you finish all your skills and the abbreviation quizzes are over, it gets to be more manageable and you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.J

Everything just seemed so overwhelming because you don’t know what to expect, everything is new and it’s a lot to take in. But then you get date book and organize when everything is due, check off on skills as early as possible so you can get it out of the way so you don’t stress at the last minute, and stay on top of reading/studying. I think once you finish first semester, you feel like you can do anything after that! J

Second semester you get a bit of a breather. You are in class two days a week on Mon & Tues 0730-1030. Clinical is on a Wed, Thurs, or a Fri. So you have 2 free days a week and the best part is no skills (except for the first week)! J Can you tell I’m in second right now? I hear you have to gear back up for third semester and really focus on study habits.

So my advice is to hang in there that first semester. Things are going to get overwhelming but just take one day at a time and you will get through it. The instructors are wonderful and they don’t give you anything you can’t handle. Good luck on your new adventure. It will be so worth it in the end! J
