I'm just curious! I'm just starting (at the ripe 'ol age of 35, LOL!) looking into a career in nursing. I've worked in hospitals and clinics doing medical transcription for years and years, and way back when used to be a pre-physical therapy major (I've taken chemistry, anatomy, biology...don't know if they would count, as it's been several years). I would be attending MJC for pre-reqs and (fiingers crossed) the nursing program eventually and I would really love to have a student's view, how difficult it is to get into the program, any general advice, etc.
So you are wondering how many LVN to RN students are selected? MJC does not have a specific LVN to RN program so there is not a set number. Sometimes LVNs are accepted into the regular RN program if there are 3rd semester openings in the regular RN program.
Sometimes there may be a spot, but there is no guarantee. It is my understanding that there usually isn't space available.
I'm going into the 3rd semester this Fall, and I know we had quite a few drop outs. (Like 7 or 8ish??) But there are some students that are either returning or repeating the semester too so I don't know how many slots there would be for LVN students.
Congrats to everyone who got accepted in! It's a long hard wait, but it sure pays off to keep trying!! MJC has an awesome nursing program!! I'm so proud to be a part of it!!
3rd semester is hard. I guess all the semesters are hard, but 3rd is especially so. I don't think most of the students "dropped out" per se, as in just quit. They "dropped out" when they didn't receive a passing grade. It's especially hard on people with family and work commitments who don't have the adequate study time. The college has a remediation process in which the students can re-enter the program, though.
