Anyone from Florida?

Just wondering if anyone on this board is from Florida? If so, what school do you attend and where do you hope to go for Nursing school?

I go to USF in St. Petersburg and I will be applying to the nursing program at the Tampa campus!

Specializes in Burn/Trauma PCU.
so you can apply before even finishing the pre-reqs?

yeah... it depends on the school. both of mine said you could a science prereq in progress during the spring semester (programs both start in may). uf's requirements were micro, a&p 1 and 2, and i finished a&p 2 in the fall, so that was good. chemistry is a prereq for ucf, so that's the only one i have left. neither school seemed to make a statement on how many nonscience prereq's you could have undone when you applied, just that you would be totally done by the time you would start their program.

i have seen some schools - mostly the ones with huge waiting lists, like my local cc's - that need all the prereq's done before you apply.

well, i wish the advisor for usf would email me back because i am so confused. i am finishing up my last three pre-reqs and i was under the impression that i couldn't even apply until they were finished--which to me, is awfully close to the deadline for fall '06 being june 15th. i am thinking perhaps i can submit my application and state i want to be considered for fall '06 and then they will only look at it once all my paperwork is in or something? aaaaah.

of course, i tried to begin filling out an application online--got one page done and then the stupid thing keeps saying " unauthorized attempt to access con online application program. referred by insert_app_gen.cfm."

:balloons: I am so happy for each of your, wherever nursing plans you choose.:balloons:

:) I wish you the best in your nursing career. :Melody:

i hear ya! computers can be so frustrating sometimes... :uhoh3:

i went on to the usf nursing school page... here's what i saw:

applicants must meet the following requirements before entering program:

bachelor's degree from accredited college or university

  • minimum 3.0 undergraduate gpa
  • completion of required prerequisites
  • proof of health insurance
  • current health/immunization requirements

now, as far as i'm concerned, they say you have to have all that completed before entering, not before applying. i would say that the more science prereq's you have completed before the deadline, the better, since it will give admission committees a better idea of your progress and your aptitude. however, if you've got a competitive gpa and have done well so far, go for it!

i had a similar question for uf before they actually posted the answers in a faq section... and my best results came from actually calling the department and insisting on getting an answer before i hung up. usually, that's going to be a common question among applicants, so probably even the person answering the phone would know, or could at least get you to someone who did.

hope this helps... good luck! :)

Yes, and I am moving, thank God. Getting into N. school here has been a nightmare...and I am an A student who has completed first semester and everything with flying colors, recommendations, etc..................AGGGGGGGGGGG! Ok, anyway, I wish you guys all the best and I hope things go well with you and your pursuit of nursing! :)

I just graduated with my BS in psychology from UF. I have applied to Uf, UNF, and JU for their Accelerated BSN programs. I just had my interview at JU and they acted like I am pretty assured of getting in. My first choice is UF so I have my figers crossed that they will accept me.

Clearwater florida here! attending St Petersburg college

Hello!!!

I am from Orlando!!! I have a few prerequisites to go and I will be aplying to UCF amd USF accelarated programs for 2010. Annabelle & Moon, let me know how did it go?:wink2:

Hello! I'm in Orlando and finishing up my last two pre-reqs this semester (A&PII & Intro to Soc). I'm applying to the 2nd degree program at UCF. Just turned in my fingerprint card today! Best of luck to everyone!!

Hey scubagirl!! I'm at SPC right now also. Taking Micro right now online (blech!) and only have Statistics and Ethics left before applying. What are you taking this semester?

HI!, i'm taking a&P 2, and my humanities requirement. i only need micro now.

hey take mrs borzewski (i might've spelled it incorrectly) for Stats at the seminole campus. i received an A in Stats, but only because she was such a GREAT teacher! In Ethics, be prepared to write, write write write, don't get behind :(

so you're taking micro online, wow you are brave! hahahaha, i wonder if it's easier or harder than being there in class in person? why are you taking it online? who is your instructor?

Well, I have 3 kids and one on the way, so I have found that online is easier for me at this point. I took both A&P 1 & 2 online with Dr. Byrne - passed both classes and labs with A's. Right now I'm taking Micro & lab online with Dr. Citron, and the content is hard, but she allows open book tests and quizzes, which is harder than one would think. Who did you take for Ethics? I live right around the corner from the Seminole campus so I'll definitely keep that teacher in mind for Statistics - do you know if she teaches online? I was going to apply to the nursing program for the fall session, but I'm due in October so that kind of negates me applying for the fall. I think I will have to wait for the following fall just so I can give this baby my full attention. What semester are you going to apply to the program?
