Not to sound bad but anyone who quit NS or nursing would probably not be anywhere near this site. I could be wrong though.

Maybe a thread about wanting to drop out of NS? I think this topic would be very individual. If you truly found out nursing isn't for you while in NS, I'd think your finding would be a true gift to find out early on, so you can lessen the obvious losses (tuition debt, time/effort). If you just find NS difficult, it might be great regret, due to school being completely different from practice as a nurse.

Okay...I give. I did leave nursing for awhile. Plain and simply, I was burnt out. I decided it was time for me to try something else and see if I really did want to continue nursing. So, a perfect opportunity arose when my husband decided to go from Coast Guard reservist to active duty and we moved. I decided I wanted to become a dog groomer, yes a dog groomer. Not the most glorious job at all, but, I had wanted to do it since I got out of h.s. and thought I'd give it a shot. I did and somewhat enjoyed it, but, I always still felt I wasn't quite where I belonged. I was a groomer for a year, got pregnant and took the next year off to have my daughter and be home with her. I realized during that time, that nursing really is what I am supposed to do. It's where I belong. It made me realize where I want to take my nursing career as well. I eventually want to become a CNM. Do I regret it? Absolutely not, it just made me realize even more that this is what I need to do, which is what I really needed at the time. I believe I have come out of it a better nurse actually. I have also trained during my nursing career in massage therapy and doula work. Which are both great in and of themselves but my heart truly is in nursing for a full time career.

I also left nursing -- I was actually not burnt out but bored. I tried another field (actually took my hobby and turned into my work). I realized after 3 years in the business world that I now no longer enjoyed what you used to love, plus I was working 60 hrs a week for less money.
So I returned to nursing - and I can say that I am glad that I did, because it really is what I do best, I am working as a staff nurse in acute care and starting to make plans to get an advanced degree.

I wanted to quit nursing due to the stress of bedside nursing at the facility I was in. But I didn't. Instead I just went back to school and become a Nurse Practitioner. It's a different role but I find that I am a little bit more relaxed in this role.... at least for now.

Maybe nursing school become too stressful for some and then maybe nursing school wasn't the right decision for that person...
