Anyone ever have a famous person as a patient?

Published

Actors, singers, authors, comedians, etc...?

If so, how did he/she treat you as their nurse?

If you were "starstruck", how did you handle it?

How did the hospital hide their identity?

Did he/she bring an entourage with them?

What were their families like?

Anyone deliver a famous woman's baby?

Yep, they are just people, I know, but I've always been curious :)

ruby vee that is an awesome story...did the potus call back?

he had the white house switchboard call the local police who called hospital security who called and asked to speak to the charge nurse. believe me, if the white house switchboard calls you know you're going to talk to someone important.

i'm probably the only nurse who ever hung up on the president of the united states . . . he called to get a condition report on a friend of his, and said "hi, i'm george washington (substitute the name of the guy who was currently president) and i'd like to know how my good friend john is doing."

i said "sure you are," and hung up. i swear it wasn't because he belonged to the other party.

at least you didn't violate hipaa. :D

I used to work in a cosmetic derma office in Beverly Hills, CA. So yes, I got to see famous celebrities. Can't name names though due to HIPAA violation.

Where i work, people always wander into the wrong rooms looking for their family members. How are celebrities protected from this? Also, do they usually want a certain nurse or particular staff members to care for them only or are they really treated like everyone else?

Not yet. I did sign up for an agency that gives flu shots to the RAVENS football team. Too bad I came on board at the end of flu season, though. Would love to be a flu nurse for the RAVENS!!!

Yup. They were completely different than I expected, and very, very nice. They treated nurses with respect and even brought us treats as thank yous. :D

Specializes in Med/Surg.

I live in NYC, so it's kind of surprising that I haven't had any big celebrities as pts. I have a lot of patients who are entertainers in some fashion and think they are way bigger than they are. I've had several pts. refuse to go to off campus AA due to not wanting to be spotted, request an alias, ask to see who views their medical records so they know the suspects if their hospitalization hits the press, etc. Lol meanwhile nobody knows them from Adam!

Had 3 as pt.s, all NAMES. 1 was sweet but a bit needy, 1 was great but the s.o was from hell. The 3rd lived up to thier billing as a real character.

YEP. A TV personality, a singer, and tho not "famous" an FBI agent and a couple of CIA guys. The FBI man, bless his heart, was so afraid of needles that he suffered silently in pain for quite a while before I finally convinced him to let me give him a pain shot; he cried before getting the shot and then couldn't believe that it was "over". The singer had a private room ( this was in the days when 4 bed rooms were common) and the staff was under strict instructions to stay away unless you had a specific doctor's order to carry out.

there wasn't a hipaa to violate then.

I once took care of a local sports personality. He was really needy. REALLY needy!! He didn't bring an entourage with him, but his attorney was with him the entire time. He told everyone that he was the patient's attorney EVERY SINGLE TIME someone entered the room. Really annoying.

i have only dealt with 2 pts or family members who were famous on a national level...they were nice, quiet. it was in an oncologic or hospice setting.

i delivered the baby of a woman who was politically famous in our state, there was more "whoop tee do" in that setting, but the people were all nice to us (the staff).
