Anyone ever consider retaking NCLEX just to see if you could still pass?

I know I'm probably a masochist but I have been wondering for a while if I could still pass NCLEX after 25+ years out of school. There are so many threads about how hard it is to pass- I didn't think it was that tough when I took it 25 years ago. (I was a lousy student and I'm no brighter than average). Does anyone know if you can "audit" NCLEX? God!- what if I took it again and failed- wouldn't they have to take my licence?! Great, now that I've posted this, I'm going to have nightmares about NCLEX for the next week!

hello..i don't know how to post a question here...i would just like to ask wat process will i need to do on retaking the nclex,i failed the first time i take just this may of 2010,how much will it cost me to reapply?and what should i do first?thanks a lot.

100% agree. You are marvelous!!!

halleluiah!!! you have the most intelligent critics and blogs I ever read.

Yes when the first computerized test came out the results were "mailed" to you. I beleive I suffered in full blown torn agony for about 6 weeks. Is the envelope small for yes or big for no; wait this isn't right, a sheets a sheet. Oh now that was special waiting all that time.

I knew I passed but having played "the game" with the computer you never know. I got a pharm question wrong (I knew it because the computer kept asking me more pharm questions with greater difficulty). When they finally wanted to know what temperature a polar Bear's urine is during a solar eclipse I decided to go into survival mode and take a tip from my probability and statistics professor. No; I'm not tellin but it worked.

So when I read knowing how to take a test vs actual knowledge I have to say it's a bit of both with the computerized test. You definately have to know how to take it.

I laughing when I read about this post, but in the other side I feel more depressed and quite not sure what to do next in order to pass for the four times. I excell in school or when I was still in College and a top student but failing for the third time in Nclex-RN test is surely frustrating and excrutiating with me being a BSN gradute with high grades and high expectations from friends and family. I don`t even know if there is a guideline or requirements who did not passed for the third time in Massachusetts. I am very desperate to get my rn license.Of course I studied a lot,I just don`t know what else to do??? Please...please share it with me what do you really mean that survival mode and taken that tip from probability and your statistic professor...when they finally wanted to know what temperature a Polar Bear urine is during a solar eclipse. God bless you all !!!

Hell no would I ever want to audit the nclex exam! Sucked the first time so I'm sure it would only suck again!

I passed NCLEX the first time with 75 questions. I still don't know how, and I know I would not pass it again. Lightning (almost) never strikes the same place twice. I'm just grateful for the ONE time passing!

I cannot imagine NCLEX. Our boards were a 2 day affair, with separate sections for Med, Surg, Peds, OB, and Psych. No computers, the standard forms with fill in the dots. NCLEX would have driven me crazy.

lol in a way I am taking NCLEX-RN again through my school!!

funny story, in my RN-BSN program you have to take 3 exelsior college exams that are based on parts of the nclex.

therefore, I study nclex-rn books in those subjects.

1st exam: maternity/newborn + peds= passed

2nd exam: Med/surg= passed

3rd exam: Psych nursing= pending

so far I have done well, hopefully God willing I will pass my 3rd exam

so I can say that I would pass the nclex again if I had to take it. but willingly I would not take it by choice.

Me too - I'm starting RN-BSN at FIU & advisement told me the same thing - use NCLEX materials to prep for these tests. Since I just passed the NCLEX 3 weeks ago, I'm getting ready to take the Excelsior tests in September. How long were you out of school before you started the BSN? And how long did you study NCLEX prep before you took the tests?

oh yes take them now since the material is fresh in your mind!

I took a year after I finished my ASN program to start FIU.

honestly, I studied one weekend for maternity/peds, for medsurg I studied 4 days and only did 500Q (I am so bad).

and for this psych test, I did all the questions in my reviews and rationales because saunders only has 200Q in it...

I take the test tomorrow (God willing I will pass)

I am a little nervous about this one because I hear that this one Psych is the hardest.

they are very strict about these tests. I kept putting them off because of the nerves, but then I have all this time to study and I don't! I am too lazy.

but God willing I will start school again next week. FIU is very strict with these test, if you don't pass you dont take the last 12 credits of the program

I have often wondered if I can do it again. If, and ONLY IF it didn't count for anything, and I can take it anonymously, why not?
