Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

Yep! All certifications get the same reward! And, I get the bonus each time I recert too!

I haven't had any really interesting pts lately. Just plain ol DKAs, resp failures, flu, etc, etc...

How much time did everybody allot for studying for the CCRN? I'm scheduled to take it late Feb, have been studying off and on for about a month and am now starting to study hard/spend more time on it. Feel pretty good about most of the info so far, love the Lauren Gaparis DVDs. What do you think, enough time?

Please note to all of my online friends....the title is CVICURN2003 RN, CCRN-CSC!!

Yay I passed!!! It was SOOOO hard. We don't utilize swan's on our hearts much and most of the questions were hemodynamically related. Fortunatly, they gave us enough information (like CVP, UOP, CT drainage, MAP, HR) for me to determine the "hopefully" correct answer. The way we (at my hospital) practice is so not what they asked. But it is over and I PASSED!!! YAY!!!

I am soooo sorry that I missed your question until now. I really think it depends on each person individually. Do you have access to the Dennison questions? Doing those questions on her CD will give you a great idea on how well you will do on the actual exam. It also will give you a chance to practice the way the questions are written. For me, some of the questions were exactly the same. I would highly recommend her book: Pass CCRN. You can get it on Amazon.com. It comes with the forementioned CD. Don't use the book to study from, just as a reference, but the questions are invaluable.

Ditto. I REALLY studied for about a month, during which I watched the Gasparis videos and did the CD rom. Good Luck!!:redpinkhe:redpinkhe

Well all, I am taking the GRE in two weeks and then I start working towards the CCRN. I plan to take the exam early this summer, by then I'll have enough hours in the ICU. For now I'm busy with online classes, work, and the GRE.

I finally got my DVDs (Dr. Laura). Watched the first one tonight. It was very interesting. I plan to get the Dennison book as well, but perhaps not till March. I'd appreciate any helpful hints.

BTW this thread is full of great stuff already!!!

Hello!! Welcome to our little thread!! Are you aiming toward CRNA school?? That is awesome! I know you will be very busy until the GRE is over, but another useful site is pacep.org, it thoroughly goes through hemodyamics and is extremely well done. Personally, I didn't worry too much about the tests that go along with it, especially in part 2, because it gets very detailed, even more so than is needed for the CCRN. I know there are many people studying right now and hopefully people will start checking in regularly. It becomes very empowering knowing there are others across the country working on the same goal. Let us know how the GRE goes!! Good luck!!

I agree about Pacep.org it was required during my orientation and internship and is an excellent resource for hemodynamic monitoring.

thanks for the warm welcome.

[hi everyone,

i am checking in i read these posts judiciously every night but i dont post as often as i would like, but like deeDawntee said I am checking in!!1 taking the CCRN in 2weeks i have been living in the library on my off days for about 1 month now, watched Dr Laura's DVDs twice will watch them one more time like 2 days before so the info is fresh, have Dennison book and CD, (i agree dont read the book, use the core review , the book is too dense, but the CD is awesome...so far i am doing like 79% so i am feeling pretty good...i also have her green and white book and the AACN saunders review CD...so i hope and pray to ace it ...then study for the CSC...i work in a mixed ICU but we do lots of open hearts so hemodynamics i am familiar with...

CONGRATULATIONS!! You are already a CCRN certified nurse!! You are definitely going to pass without any difficulty! You should be planning on something to do or give yourself for a reward! Remember not to freak out while you are taking the test when you get one of those 'unanswerable' questions, like Dr Laura says, you could be in the middle of a medical library and not be able to find the answer! And, she is right, those questions seem to show up at the beginning of the test, so don't let them shake your confidence, ok? (there are 25 of those!) I like what she says, don't be intimidated, but a little anger is good....

Personally, I don't know much about the CSC certification, but since it is through the AACN, I would bet it will follow closely what you are already studying with hemodynamics, etc. Hopefully, someone who has taken it will post.. perhaps, you could post a new thread out there and see what response you get.

Hey keep us informed about the studying and how you are feeling, etc. Just have fun now and enjoy the process, most of the hard work is already over for you! Way to go!
