Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

Congrats to all those that have passed since I last checked in!! Happy New Year! I am taking the CSC in 16 days (to be exact). The information out there on it is so vauge and I refuse to buy the AACN stuff (the CCRN stuff was junk). I have a book that is recommended on the CSC reference list "Perioperative care of the Adult Cardiac Surgery Patient". I have learned a few interesting things. I frequently use it as a reference when some of us have a difference of opinion or question on something. Mostly to satisfy my curiosity, not to argue. I am just going to take it and hope for the best....No one at my hospital has taken it and I have recieved very few responses on here when I posted about it. I'll let you know....I dread it.

Hey, good luck on the CSC!!! I don't know much about that particular exam. (I don't blame you for not wanting to get the AACN material!!) Thanks for the info about the cardiac surgery reference, there seems to be so little out there for cardiac surgery information. It seems that area is a big hole that could be filled in nursing literature. Perhaps most cardiac surgery nurses go for their CCRN, since it really encompasses the most highly weighted parts of that exam? In other words, I think if you have mastered cardiac surgery nursing, CCRN would be very manageable.

Let us know how it goes!! Thanks for letting us know and remember to have fun, if possible!!

This dance is for all of you that did it!!!!!!!!! Haven't been on in awhile sorry to have missed the whole study group, I was studying on my own at that time, then gave up, got so frustrated, overwhelmed. With reading all the post here and I mean all the post I am motivated to start studying again. I have Lauras DVD, and they are priceless. I also have her questions book, Dennisons 2nd edition with cd and then some other books for additional info.

where do I start and any advise, tips, anyone currently studying? Seems noone has posted lately, have most stopped visiting here? Again congrats:cheers:.

Hi ICUdeb!!

This thread has been quiet over the holidays but I know of several people who are in the process of studying. I check daily and respond as soon as possible. I know that many of the recent CCRN cert holders also respond now and then. So, I would bet if you started to post questions and share interesting patients (being careful to conceal identity, of course) that this thread would come alive again.

Studying for the CCRN was an empowering process for me and I know for many of us. However, often at our places of work, the same kind of encouragement and attitude does not exist as it does on this forum where everyone wants success for you...

I will be here for you and would certainly love for you to be the first of the new year to spark everyone's interest and commitment!!

Thanks so much for posting!!!

Ok sat down today and took the dennisons cd test scored 60%, haven't studyed anything for months. Quess it's time to start cracking again. Is this good or bad for a score? Any tips from you guys on a good way to study and really retain the material? Thanks Deb

I am planning taking the CCRN for Neonatal Nursing in March...for better for worse. Been trying to start boning up; I've had all the books for quite a while. If I don't pass, than I have to take one more college course for my BSN. Should that happen I'll try the RNC for Neonatal Nursing after as it takes less CEU's to maintain.

Have you already set your date? I have not. Im just starting to get back into studying again. I have had my books for awhile also. I just need to do it. I bought all this study material for a reason, And it wasn't to collect dust LOL. Got out the dust rag today, and started sorting through my material. Im hoping to take my this summer when I get back home. Currently on an assignment away from home. This site has given me the boost I needed to hopefully get it done. Good Luck to you, March is not that far away. Im here for yah.

Hey, way to go!! You only need 70% to pass, so to score that well is very good! I think it is really good to not only listen to some of the Dr Laura DVD's every day, but also to do some of the questions every day. It takes practice to get used to the way those questions are worded and to understand the rationales. I know some people went through questions and that was the only way they studied. I think you should do what you enjoy. I believe that this process should be empowering and something that you look forward to. I approached it that way because I didn't want to just cram in the information, test well and then forget it. I believe a relaxed, confident mind will retain the information and translate into a relaxed, confident nurse.

It is really cool that we are already practicing in this area as we

study for our certification. Undoubtedly you will begin to use your knowledge right away and for me that certainly helped to retain the info.

I truly believe that passing this test will happen for all of us if we study the right material, so studying like you have already achieved your goal will give you a certain empowerment as you move forward through this process. It is the process that is invaluable.

Thanks for being here!! :lol2:

Do you have the Dennison book with the CD with questions? It will give you a good idea of how you are doing to reach the >70% to pass. We have found that it correlates almost exactly and will tell you when you are ready. Do you Dr Laura's course? You certainly can pass with other people's material, but Dr Laura teaches with such passion and humor that learning becomes relatively easy.

Did you know that the AACN has free CEU's on their website? There are some really interesting articles and you can keep track of the CEU's right on their website. I do one article every month to stay on top of the required CEU's. Very easy to do.

Keep us informed of how it is going. Perhaps the others who are currently studying will get in touch so we can all be in communication through this process.

Take care!!!

Very cool info!

I passed my CCRN today with an 86%

Personal facts:

1. CCU RN for 18 months.

2. Studied for 4 months off and on, crammed final week.

3. Watched all Laura Gasparis' DVDs

4. Listened to David Woodruff CCRN study to and from work only.

5. Used Dennison's practice tests on occasion. Only scored in mid 60's consistently.

6. Heard the CCRN exam was nearly impossible. It was complicated, but not impossible with the aforementioned materials.

GOOD LUCK!
