Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

Hello everyone! I just wanted to check in and let you all know that I'm still alive.

The wedding went well! We enjoyed our honeymoon in St. Lucia. BEAUTIFUL weather the whole time! Things are just beginning to settle down.

The last month at work has been tough. I had quite a few rough nights. Lots of very sick and crazy patients. And the families have been demanding also. I have not wanted to study anything because of how tired and stressed out I've been.

But tonight I am determined to start!

Congratulations to everyone that has passed recently! :balloons: You are my motivation.

What a dream come true, honeymoon in St Lucia!! I am so glad the weather was wonderful.

I am sorry to hear about work, I know what you mean, it seems the crazy times at work comes in streaks. Care to share any of it? Sometimes it helps to get it off your chest. It is all on the road to getting your CCRN, so it is all fair game for discussion!

Thanks so much for checking in!! ;);)

Well I had my first patient with DIC. He had had a redo aortic anastomosis. He had some hypotension during and after surgery. Liver and renal failure. Low fibrinogen and platelets, high PT and PTT. I think he was developing a GI bleed. They finally terminally weaned him.

We had a young guy with endocarditis that was a redo grafts, AVR and MVR. We came close to cracking his chest. Sent him back to the OR and found nothing. Worked on him all night long.

The other night, I received a guy that had grafts and a MVP. I had weaned him from the vent and everything looked great until 0500 in the morning. Well, except that he came back AAI paced and at 0000 my A wires just stopped working. He was junctional underneath. At 0500 he became hypotensive, BP in the 60s, O2 sats in the 80s, nonresponsive. I thought I had given too much morphine with the PCA but now that I think about it I don't think that's what happened. I really don't know what happened. Gave some Narcan and he perked up just a little bit. Then as I'm giving report his V wires stopped working! So he was junctional in the 70s with a crappy pressure. We upped his dob and started some epi to increase his rate. Exciting stuff at shift change. I felt really horrible after that morning. Now we think he's going through DTs. He ended up being retubed about a day later.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Mix this in with some confused and needy patients :)

I'm planning to take the test when I stop being so afraid of it. I've been studying for this exam more then a year now & I'm to scared to sit for it & fail it.

My friend is taking it next week we have been studying together this long. I'll see how she does on it 1st :)

I also have the dennison & gaspris cd & review questions. I just have trouble remembering things.

someday I'll take it when I get the nerve.

WELCOME to our humble thread!! You have definitely found the right group of people! Hey, getting the CCRN is a process, and it is the process that is valuable. You will know when you are ready.

That being said, it is overwhelming if you look at everything in the Dennison book and think that you could be tested on any of that material...that really is not the case. The book is great for a reference but don't use it as your review book, you will drive yourself crazy! Use Dennison CD as your gage to see if you are ready. If you get about 80% on the CD you WILL pass the CCRN. Use Dr Laura as your inspiration, because what she says is true, follow her recommendations, and you Will pass!! We all have trouble remembering things...and the CCRN will have certain things you will need to "memorize", I suppose, but it really isn't about that, it is about your own ability to process material and to "critically think".

Personally, I embarked in the process to feel more confident and competent in my practice. Perhaps, that is something you are achieving as well?

I hope you will continue to post here. Those of us who have been through this can certainly support you!!

Hey everyone,

I am really wanting to take the ccrn exam, but I have not got any material. Found some things that looked interesting though. any suggestions on books?:uhoh3: Also, after you take the exam, how do you renew the certification? I surely do not want to have to take the test again just for renewal.:trout:

Thanks everyone,

Get Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio's CCRN DVDs from www.greatnurses.com. Buy the book Pass CCRN from amazon.com and use the CD in the back to quiz yourself. You can renew your license by retaking the test or submitting enough CEUs

Just wondering if anyone has the Gasparis DVD's and would be willing to lend them to a perfect stranger...

It is a long shot, but it can't hurt to ask.

Thanks!! Quiet1
