Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

Hey can any of you find anything on surfactant over-production in common respiratory disorders found in the ICU?? This has me befuddled. Nothing I google gives me anything concrete.
And what is the bottom line on aspirin overdose...is it resp alkalosis or met acidosis?? as far as acid-base imbalance is concerned?
And what IS the common electrolyte distubance in hypoparathyroidism?
;)
Clinical presentation/manifestation of hypoparathyroidsm is hypocalcemia. http://www.emedicine.com/ped/topic1125.htm
ASA OD - Severe metabolic acidosis with compensatory respiratory alkalosis develops with severe OD. http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic2057.htm
Good idea!! That's what I should do since we are not allowed to have it on there! Thanks Dawn, I'll try to schedule it tomorrow!! (not FOR tomorrow, but you know what I mean)
Way to go!!! You will have no problem passing it, I promise!!
I found out some stuff about when Dr Laura is coming to MN. It will be at the Mall of America and it is a whole day conference sponsored by the MN Assoc of Nurse Anesthetists. It looks very interesting, there is more info at:
http://www.mnana.org I am not sure or not whether I will be able to go, but will let you know. Does your institution reimburse you for education?
By the way, when I sent my test to Dr Laura's office for CEU credit for her DVD course, I sent along a letter and let her know how much all of us love her course. I REALLY want to meet her, I think I have a great idea for a nursing software program that I would love to run by her. I also have her CD titled: Making a Million in Nursing. She is a big advocate for nurse entrepreneurs as well!!!
Hi Everybody,
I just went back and reviewed the whole thread and sent personal messages to everyone who posted and said they were either going to take the CCRN or were interested in it, except for those of us who have been communicating regularly. Did you know besides us regulars: there are 10 other nurses out there who are somewhere in this process!! I have invited them to update us and let us know how they are doing.
I hope a few will respond!! The more the merrier...hehehe
Sounds good, dawn ---lets keep the CCRN thing rolling
i just finished the AACN and gasparis cardio sections, i'm reviewing all the cardio questions in the review book now. then hopefully i'll go back and review respiratory and neuro before finishing off the GI/renal/hemo.
sheesh, its alot of information
well worth it though :-D

You will definitely do great on CV. Check out dilated CM as well. I believe NSAIDS are common in treatment of pericarditis? The pacep site was awesome... loved it. Bless those people for providing something like that for free. Everybody else is trying to make a buck!
I wish I knew what to tell you on Pulmonary...
Do you know how pupils react in epidural bleeds? I still haven't figured out the answer on that one.
Hey man you will rock on the test...
;)
hi my fellow ccrners!
well i think i am getting over my existential melt down regarding the ccrn (and the nclex). i have talked to a friend of mine who is a psychologist and he says that the psychology licensing exams are designed the same way, nobody ever feels like they really did well, they are just completely relieved if they pass. apparently a master's level psychologist must pass at a 50%, (that leaves a lot of really hard questions, i would imagine) and the phd level is 85%.
apparently the testing for accountants is even more brutal, with a 5 different tests with very few making it through all 5 without failing any.
it looks like it is the nature of the beast and not specific to nursing.... that does make me feel a lot better and i'm letting go of the frustration.
just to let you know, because i have been venting about it a bit!!!
everything is ok now...phew!!!
Hi everybody! How is studying going?
Well, I wanted to share with you the reception I have received for my CCRN. Just about everyone says, oh yea, I was going to take that exam but I just lost motivation... Apparently there was a review course taught by our CNS, but nobody went ahead and actually sat for the exam!! Of course, nobody had Dr Laura's review course! She makes you feel like you can pass no matter what, and you can!!
Please check in!! I miss you!! ;)
Works overwhelmed me the last few days; i've had some tricky patients (e.g. anoxic brain injuries and young OD codes) that ended up keeping me at work way after my shift was over
I need to get back on the wagon though; my test is the 24th
Everyone in my unit somehow knows I'm taking it, and a lot of people are waiting to see how I do before they try it :uhoh21:....As far as I know, no one currently employed in our unit has the CCRN.

YAAAAYYYYY!!!!! So glad that you found us!!! I have lost count of how many of us there are whose intentions are to take the exam at some time in the future. The focus of this thread is to empower each other to go for it. Many of us have come up against varying degrees of difficulty with coworkers when we have expressed our interest. This thread is for like-minded souls who want to be as effective as possible in our practices. It is a place to share interesting patients (being very careful to conceal pt identity) or post questions or do some venting....it is meant to have a broad focus to support each other in our quest...
I still haven't quite processed the whole experience!!! The whole process has been incredibly valuable for me, just in the confidence I feel when I walk onto the unit. It really helps fitting all the pieces of the puzzle together...It is so great to interact with the Docs in a way that you know you are making a difference for that patient. I hope that as more of us get the CCRN we will come back and post how it has empowered us as nurses.
