Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

Nobody has it where I work either. But a few people are starting to study. They will probably take the test before me.
I wouldn't count on it. It seems that A LOT of people get discouraged very easily.... (unless they have Dr Laura's course!!) But it doesn't really matter...it is the process of studying that is really the empowering part. Taking the exam is anticlimatic, at least it was for me. If you are doing well in the Dennison questions (did you see how closely the scores correlated for me btw the Dennison questions and my actual score!!?--almost exactly) and have gone through Dr Laura's course you WILL pass. I would just take that stress out of your mind...you ARE going to pass it...just let yourself absorb the material and don't worry about the exam at this point! I wouldn't wait for too long to take the exam however, because then you may never take it. Just be confident that you DO have the right materials to study and when you feel comfortable with those materials, I would sign up for the exam.
Like Dr Laura says in her course "I am going to give you all the material you are going to need to pass the exam." By the way, I did go out and buy a red shirt to wear for the exam!!
:yeah:
keep going!!! Yay!!!

Hahaha thats hilarious; i'll jump on the bandwagon too ;-p it would be kinda funny to see a bunch of people at the test in red shirts......
Ok I'm studying for the rest of the week......I keep slacking off; I married a good woman though - she keeps me accountable to for the CCRN stuff
Hey! I got accepted into a nurse anesthesia program at Akron University in Ohio....at least from what I understand from their email and letter....I kinda thought there'd be an interview; I'm a little confused. Doesn't matter though - I'm waiting until I figure out med school and FNP stuff before I make a decision . Hooray :-D!

Wow NOBODY else has CCRN where you work?! Allright, you will be the first!! Everyone I have talked to at my job who at one time had intentions to take the CCRN for some reason were discouraged about passing it or heard that it was very hard and difficult to pass.

There were 2 nurses with CCRN cert when I started working 2 1/2 years ago; they quit at one point or another. Around the time I got hired the unit offered to pay for people to go to a review, a lot of people went but none of them took the test.
4am: Finally finished cardiac, onto GI now. Last night the power went out and I was studying by candlelight, haha. Hardcore.
Neuro, respiratory, and cardio are all done now, so I just need to go back and review before taking the practice tests.
For those of you that are planning on taking the test: Get the Gasparis CCRN review book (with the questions). Invaluable.
OK you guys, the other morning at the end of my shift, I had been taking care of a 400+ lbs woman who was MRSA+, I was in and out of there ALL night long, I was sweaty, tired and deshoveled. Well, my managers secretary comes with a camera and says she wants to take my picture. Here I am gowned up ready to go back into my pt's room. So, I don't think much of it, I smile and she snaps the picture. Well, we have a weekly "newsletter" and here is my (not so flattering) picture with Congratulations CCRN!! Isn't that cool? So, now EVERYBODY at work knows about it and I can't tell you the kind of reception I have gotten!! People really treat me differently. Last weekend the nurse that was one of my preceptors when I started on the ICU brought in a celebratory pie for my CCRN (and it was also my birthday) and he told the nurses working that I had just passed my CCRN and honest to GOD, this one nurse's jaw literally dropped open!! She didn't say a word to me!! She was just in shock!! hehehe Now, I've been getting teased as well. I asked some question last night and the nurses I worked with said, what??!! you don't get you ask questions anymore, now that you have your CCRN!!
(they were kidding). So it has been far more well received than I ever imagined. Even this really crotchety old Intensivist was NICE to me and thanked me when I called him at 0100. I almost fell off of my chair!!!
So, I say, to all of you, stay motivated!! Keep on keeping on!! It feels really good to have it. People really DO look at you differently. I am no longer one of the 'newbies', I am someone who has a commitment to being an outstanding nurse!! And so are all of you!!
:yeah:
it is worth every minute of studying and stress!!

Personally, I think they just didn't have the right study materials.
You have plenty of time, and I would bet money, that you could take the exam tomorrow and pass it. Don't get caught up, like I did, in the particular score, that was really stupid, considering the way exams like that are designed. All you need is 70% and the material we all have been studying is all that is needed.
Have you heard anything from med school?
