Anyone else burned out???

i talked to the hr lady and she told me that it would be like this for the next several months due to there is nobody else.

that line worries me a bit. generally hr only blows hot air with some line like: "help is on the way!". for you they actually admitted that it would be "several months".... but again, that could also be optimism. several months could easily turn into a year. on the flip side, if your place is small, all it takes is one or two new hires that come-in unexpectantly to lighten the load.

at the very least you must be rolling in the money... =)

of course money won't get you out of burn-out... but spending that extra money on a nice vacation might.

I've been burned out for years. I've switched departments from time to time to help. Plus, I make sure I take my vacations.

Stay in nursing, but get a new job, and take a vacation or at least some time off in between. I hope it gets better for you...not *all* places suck, it just takes some work to find the ones that don't sometimes! :)

ughhh.. I can't imagine working that many days straight..I'd be worthless..3 - 12hr shifts in a row wipes me out..I'd try talking to the DON about scheduling and try to work something out...if not get a new job....life's toooooo short...and contrary to mgnt beliefs we are NOT machines!

You know, it's sad. I am in RN school after having been an LPN for 6 years. I've found out I don't really want to be a nurse anymore. But, I'm going to stay at it because I can't make the same pay at wal-mart. :rolleyes:

I just feel like all I do is push pills. Maybe it's the jobs that I've had.

Do you have mandatory overtime or is that just how your schedule falls?

Don't believe LTC'S when they say they're going to get more help and everything is going to get better in a few months. At least the ones I've worked in never got any better.

Isn't there a law or aren't there rules regarding how many hours you can work in a pay period? Check your labor board. Go now, get out. Do not accept this schedule. When I work with people on their fourth 12 hour shift, they are worthless (I do love them tho!) and they look so haggard. This is your license. It is up to you to protect it.

10 days straight? give me a break.

No, it's how the schedule falls. Don't get me wrong, the $$$ is good, but I don't like having $800 taken out in taxes!!! :uhoh3:

I requested off the 4th of July and 5 days after that, so hopefully, I can get some r&r. :rolleyes:

i just got my first nursing job 3 months ago. we are so short(i work ltc), that i have already oriented 2 new nurses and worked several 12 hr shifts. i just got off of an 11 day stretch(including 3 12s!!!), and having the 2 days off wasn't enough.

so the new schedule comes out today, and i see that i have 8 days straight at the beginning of the month and 10 at the end. i don't know how i am going to get through it! .....................................................................

hmmmmm............why are you allowing yourself to be abused like that? why are you accepting assignments eleven days in a row? do you like to be "stressed out"? :confused: if not............stop the insanity!!! get another job if you cannot cut down on working shifts like that so many days in a row. superwomen only exist in the movies and t.v. shows. you are not responsible for a facilities short staffing. start taking better care of yourself. if you don't, no one else will. :icon_hug:

I feel for you - you must be exhausted! I'd advise HR that if these conditions persist and you can't get a break, then they're going to be even more short staffed! Patient safety and your sanity are priority over their staffing problems. Her response is unacceptable! What about bringing in some temp agency help?
