Anyone else applying for fall 2010 SPC nursing program?

Published

I'm finishing up my last pre-req this semester and will be applying online within the next couple of weeks as the deadline is March 1st. Anyone else applying for fall semester?

Not sure about the TEAS.

At orientation they will go over EVERYTHING you will need to know...class schedule (they will actually have you sign up for them there is you need the help...and for EAYL students, they sign you up for your classes each semester so you stay with your clinical group)...you will find out for sure what clinic site you have from your clinical instructor.( EAYL students will be @ Morton Plan Rehab in Clearwater and I am pretty sure that EAYL uses the sam each semester)

For the TEAS test...they tell you how to register for it and what dates you have to choose from to take the test. It takes about 3-4 hours for the entire thing. It reviews math, reading comp, science and things like grammar and puncuation. It wasn't that bad. All they do is look at your scores in the different sections and it is made to tell you what your strengths/weaknesses are and what you need to work on. Even if you BOMB it..you will still be in the program. Your clinical instructor sits down with you and goes over your scores a few weeks into class.

You also find out about dress code and they can answer any questions you have then. Let me know if there are any other questions :) Hope this helps!

Morgan,

Thanks for the info. I just sent my notice of intent out yesterday and I guess I'm waiting on the oreintation packets.

Here's a question. I thought I saw somewhere on here about shoes, but I wasn't sure. I had to buy a new pair today for my job anyways b/c my running shoes weren't doing the trick. I bought NB walking (but all white). Is any all white shoe okay?

They cant be mesh or anything like that...to protect from fluids. You will have a uniform check off date a few weeks into the semester where you have to wear your hair up, have the right shirt/pants and shoes on just like you will have going out to clinicals. BUT you will notice that the days you are just in class all day that people wear whatever they want as long as they are close toed. I wore my sperry top-siders most of the semester...lol

Speaking of hair up. If a a ponytail is just above the shoulders, is that okay? Please tell me I don't have to wear a bun! LOL. I'll do whatever I am required to do, but really hoping for ponytail. If not, then I'm gonna start experimenting now so I can have a decent variation of a plain old bun; silly what girls worry about!

Also, I have long natural nails; when I went to school for medical transcription, many years ago, everybody said I'd have to cut them to type (production pay, get paid by the keystroke), but I never did have to and typed fast enough to make a living for many years. I think I can place an IV with them, but I don't know what might end up under those nails . Will I find out soon enough? I figure I'll wait til somebody tells me to cut them or I get that first gross thing under them! :nurse:

You're gonna have to cut them. It's for patient safety and to reduce spread of germs from one patient to another... Just because you can't see anything under your nails doesn't mean they're not there...

Well, that's not what I wanted to hear :). About even-with-my-fingertip short? My nails are about 1/3 inch past my fingertip; I'm gonna miss them! Even at fingertip length there is room for "stuff" to get in there, though? Yuck, I can just imagine what gets in there, so I'm not against cutting them!

Got the orientation packet today. It's on the 30th like mentioned on here.

Lucky You! I'm jealous! I want mine!! So orientation is on July30th??? Is there only one date? Does it say what time we need to be there and what time it ends? Any other info in there? I want all the info possible! I am soo excited/curious!!!!

Jess,

Orientation is JUNE 30th. It says it consists of two parts and starts at 9am in the auditorium at HEC. First part is the student services orientation and the second part is your selected program orientation. It also says that registration will take place during this process. That's about it. Not too much in the packets, just this and background stuff (which you do online immediately) and drug testing. I did background last night and I'm going to Qwest today for drug test. Both of these have to be done by June 25th.

Does anyone know where the clinical sites are going to be? I know we register during orientation. This weekend I was able to pull the instructors and schedules out of MySPC doing a search for classes for NUR1021/1021L and now I can't see them anymore. It was for this upcoming fall semester 2010-2011.

Also, really I have no idea to choose night or days. I know nights goes through summer. I'm just about clueless right now...I suppose any info or advice would be appreciated.

Your clinical site will all depend on your instructor. I was @ the Rehab center Morton Plant Clearwater. Others were @ the VA in St.pete...Health South in Clearwater.... If you are having troubles registering, then give the nursing office a call and someone will help you or just stop by the HEC office :)
