I'm finishing up my last pre-req this semester and will be applying online within the next couple of weeks as the deadline is March 1st. Anyone else applying for fall semester?
I'm a single mom of two and I was worried about the same, can't do nights and weekends cause I only have care on weekdays. The daycare where my youngest attends opens at 6:30 a.m. so I was worried about clinical days in case I have to be at the hospital before 7 a.m.
Anyway, the clinical days are the only ones that start really early; however, the hospitals have their own start times and you don't know til you start (I start in the Fall so I'm no help there yet--paperwork says the different hospitals/facilities have different start times and the earliest possible is 6 a.m., so that's the only time they put on the schedules), but clinicals are only 2 days a week, Tuesday and Wednesday for example. Then you would have skills lab 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday and theory 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday for example. At orientation they told us we are on campus for our clinical days the first 7 weeks and we don't have to be there til 7 a.m. on those "clinical" days, and then it'll depend on your hospital/rehab facility what time you report to clinicals the last 7 or 8 weeks of the semester on those same 2 days.
Since I'll be one semester ahead, when (yes, WHEN) you get in, let me know and hopefully I'll know some of the start times for some of the hospitals/rehab facilities.
A private/home daycare would probably work with you if you needed a couple early days, but definitely have to find a dependable sitter. If I remember right, you can only miss one class for theory and three classes for clinicals the whole semester, so you certainly don't want to have to worry about that. The daycare facilities are the most dependable--they never call in :) --but the earliest I have found is 6 a.m. drop off time.
Good luck!
(Questions about day schedule)I've just applied for Jan 2011 admission (though I was enrolled in A&P II this summer and the grades aren't yet posted and I still have to take Microbio and Stats in the Fall). Crossing fingers!

Hi,
I was in A&P2 and Micro last spring semester (yes at the same time, I'm nuts but got A's in both ) and I got accepted into the upcoming fall. Keep in mind, you won't be considered for the first pool if you weren't done with A&P2 by the time you submitted the application. I got in on the second pool, but I had stats done. Good luck!
Has anyone gotten their Nursing I syllabus yet? I went to the bookstore a while ago and they didn't have it. Just curious where we start in the Nursing Fundamentals book (or if it will even say in the syllabus). I'm deployed now in New Orleans and I may not get back in time for the syllabus workshop either...oh well...just curious...
You bounce alllll around in the fundamentals book! Keep going back to the bookstore, they get new shipments in all the time. I''m not sure what the syllabus workshop is, but if it just tells you hot to use it...its really not necessary. They go over very well how to use it the first few days. You'll get the hang of it :) The workshop that is useful was the math workshop if you need to brush up on some stuff. gook luck!
They didn't have them last time I was there, but I'm going back Monday or Tuesday to the get the rest of my books hopefully and will let you know. In Angel, you can go into lessons and it shows the modules and what the reading is for unit I, part A or whatever for class and clinicals; you may be able to go by that, but I'm not sure because I don't have the syllabus yet.
Thanks to both of you. Yeah...unfortunately I'm in southern Louisianna until a few days before school starts so I'm not able to go back to the bookstore; however, they have been calling me each time something comes in (but no syllabus yet). I think the syllabus workshop is a new thing this year. I was going to go to it if I was home...but seems like it's not a big deal. Math is my greatest, so no fears there. Thanks for the advice in angel, I glance in there soon when I get a chance. Keep me posted when and if you get a syllabus soon. I appreciate it guys...
Yeah...I called this morning and they don't have it yet. Thanks though...I was just coming on here to post they didn't have it. You beat me to it Thanks for the guidance to the old one in angel...I'm assuming the new one will be somewhat similiar??? At least I had a chance to look at the old one. Are you going to any of the workshops they are offering?

(Questions about day schedule)
Hi everyone...
I have a BA in Psych (from 1995 :) ) and have been taking pereqs for SPC's AS RN program for the past year now. I've just applied for Jan 2011 admission (though I was enrolled in A&P II this summer and the grades aren't yet posted and I still have to take Microbio and Stats in the Fall). Crossing fingers!
Anyway, I am a single mom of a soon to be kindergartener and, while I have been lurking on this site for the past year, still can't get a good idea of what exactly the days are like in the AS RN Day program at SPC. I have read that the hours are generally 7AM to 3PM... but is this every weekday? Also, how many hours are clinicals and on what days (weekends/weekdays)?
I'm trying to get an idea of what the week would be like for my son and I if (when! :) ) I get accepted into the program (I have no family around so the night/weekend program would not work for me). I won't be working (hopefully), so my days will be open but having to leave my sleeping baby every morning with a babysitter (who would have to be SUPER reliable) seems daunting..
Any input/answers/advice would be greatly appreciated..
Thank you!
