Anyone else applying for fall 2010 SPC nursing program?

Published

I'm finishing up my last pre-req this semester and will be applying online within the next couple of weeks as the deadline is March 1st. Anyone else applying for fall semester?

Yes; my teacher said not to miss the syllabus workshop, so it sounded like a good idea. I'm going to the math workshop also cause math stresses me out, especially word problems, which is what dose/drip/hour sounds like to me, but I've heard there are really not too many formulas to remember, and I hope so cause formulas don't freak me out :).

LOL...yeah math isn't to hard for me, but looking at the handouts on the NIP website intimidated me a just a little. Yes, I recall them saying not to miss the workshop. Unfortunately, I can't attend due to be being deployed. If all goes planned, I don't fly back until the day of the workshop (I believe the 18th). When I got some free time the other night, I was actually able to follow the old one just fine, but I'm sure there is some trick to it. If you learn anything useful could you keep me posted, that is if you have the time? I would appreciate that so much. This deployment threw me for a loop...thanks, have a good one!

The bookstore said they just handed in the syllabus last week, so that makes me think there may be some changes, but I'm sure most of the fundamental stuff is the same no matter what. I know, with the key terms, objectives, all that just stresses me too; I'd rather just read it and know it (most of it anyway) and then I don't have to worry about which/what I'm supposed to know, but I know we fly through classes, so far anyway, and sometimes all the time you have is to know the objectives and key terms and not much else. A lot of people have said just know the objectives, not like they give them to us for no reason! But I like it to all come together and it's always confusing at the beginning of almost any in-depth class; it's like when you're halfway through is when it all starts to make sense and you have a system down.

If they give us handouts or anything at the workshops, I'll let you know and I can scan them and email them to you. I will let you know if it seems like anything was detrimental and you can PM your email address if you want.

Hey,

Actually, I think the new syllabus in on-line in Angel where you described to me. It must have just went up, because when I was on there this weekend, it was just the old one.

Yeah, I wasn't sure how important the workshop would be. That would be great. Keep me posted! I will PM you my email soon when I get some more time...thanks again! I am trying my hardest to get home the earliest.

Thanks...

I just did the TEAS and critical thinking tests yesterday, not too bad. I didn't get to see my scores til I got home, did way better on the TEAS than I thought I would but thankfully not too much science about rocks and such cause I sure don't remember any of that from high school.

Anyway, wanted to post to make sure you didn't forget about these with your being out of town, (I scheduled my time after orientation and then forgot about the ATI tests for weeks); the results are supposed to be in our portfolio the first week of class. You can take the self assessment test at home, but the other two you have to take at the testing center.

Yeah, I was supposed to take it yesterday too :( LOL. I made arrangements with the lab skills coordinator and the nursing department when I got my orders. They said my reason was completely understandable and that I could take it as soon as I get back or the first week of school whichever is first. Everyone was so nice and understanding! Thanks for the reminder though...trust me I was freaking out about everything before I left. I managed to get my physical done, all my titers (which I'm good b/c of vaccinations when I was active duty), order my uniforms, pick up books and order books, and anything else. I already had PPD's and CPR cert. done from my current job at an ALF. I think I did all this in about two days. LOL. Did the test take you the whole four hours to do? I'll be in touch with the coordinator soon again as I get closer to my end date. Talk soon.

Nah. Math was the only section where I took up almost all the time. I was there 2-1/2 hours but didn't do the self assessment there, just the TEAS and CT.

Don't panic about nursing math. Here's a great site to help you http://www.dosagehelp.com/

Get yourself a Saunders NCLEX review book and use it to study for every exam and for upcoming ATI assessments and of course for the NCLEX itself. Get into the habit right away of reviewing 200 questions a week from the cd. There's something like 5000 questions on the cd to review.

Thanks for the link! Yeah, I have the review book, been reading it over the summer whenever I'm stuck at the doctor or something. Did you just do 200 random a week or did you do questions from certain chapters of the NCLEX review? The first 6 or so chapters I've been through have been mostly fundamental info, but some of it had the nursing assessment steps too, and I don't know when we learn that, guessing that's be pretty early on :) I have only looked at the CD once, last summer, was overwhelmed and left it alone and I've just been reading the book this time, but I'm hoping the CD will have things listed by specialty or subject? I'm actually finding it pretty easy, but I read and then do the questions immediately afterward. I know it will be much harder to just start doing questions from areas I should know . . . can hardly wait! Thanks for the advice.

Hey!

I don't know if any of you had the same problem as me, but when I was shopping for my portfolio supplies I couldn't find a single white duotang folder. I looked at Walmart,Office Depot and Staples. Finally, I did find a white duotang folder, but I had to buy a pack of 10 together. I don't need the other 9 folders and I thought I would help others by selling them for a $1 a piece. I will bring them to the first day of class or I would be happy to me you somewhere. Please e-mail me at [email protected] if you are interested.

I did have that problem, but when I went to get my books they had them at the booksore, so got one then. But she said lots of people had been in there saying they couldn't find white, so you'll probably be able to get rid of them.

Hi all!

I am applying to the Nursing program for fall 2011. I am currently a SPC student and have already proved Florida residency, but I was wondering what type of documents they accepted to prove Pinellas county residency upon acceptance.
