what are you doing now? what extra classes are you or will you take? I was suppose to register for classes this week...but have not a clue what I should take next. suggestions? I stress out more not doing anything. I dnt want to regret wasting this fall semester. What do you think about med terminology? is it useful? or can I do without.

I'm not done with pre-reqs yet - but getting close. After I am finished with them I plan to take a Pharm class and also a CNA class.
Good luck to you!

Have you done the co-reqs for the program you are looking into? If allowed and you haven't I would do those if you can. That way all you have are the core nursing classes when you get into the program to concentrate on. Thats what I am doing.:nuke: I even have to take a PE (gym) credit for my degree program. I figure thats a good summer class to take next and get it outta the way. I'll have my pre-reqs completed On Aug 2nd

I'm not anywhere close to being done with my pre-reqs (started my first today!), but thought that I'd offer up the advice my advisor gave me. Due to the school that I'll be applying to being so competitive, they recommend that you get all of the co-reqs out of the way before you even apply (the more you have done, the more points you get). I'll likely apply when I only have one class left (I'll still get the max points), so I'll have that one left, and I'll start taking some of the pre-reqs for the BSN programs in the area. That way I'll have those already out of the way when I am ready to go back for my BSN, and I won't have too much down time while I'm waiting to get accepted and then waiting to start.
I hope that helps some, and if not, I hope it at least helps someone else out.
Good luck!

My program requires a CNA course, I'm taking it this fall. After this semester, I'll be done with everything except nursing classes. I'm not taking any classes for my BSN because the school I'm going to requires so many to be taken through them, I'm going to wait until my employer will reimburse me on those!!!
So if I have to wait, I will take a break from actual classes. I plan on getting a dosage calculations book and NCLEX prep book. I figure those will keep me busy for the 9 months until fall semester. That's if I don't get into the spring program.

I had hoped to take co-reqs (i'm a long ways from being done with prereqs) while I waited, but the program no longer does that. Everything is lumped together listings such as Nursing I. When I finish, and while I wait, my plan is to, probably take next summer off to spend some time with the family before my life gets out of hand, and then talk to my counselor and see what she recommends. Some of the classes that I'm interested in taking (medical terminology for one) are difficult to get into as they are part of other programs that I'm not taking.
So, my real suggestion to you is to speak with your counselor, that's what they are there for.

As others have said, any co-req classes remaining.
If you're planning to go into an ASN program and think you might bridge to BSN later, you can work on any prerequisites, co-requisites or degree requirements that are necessary for the BSN program (statistics, organic chemistry, and extra English are common).
If you don't already speak a foreign language (or ASL), learning one (especially one common in the area you plan to work) will give you a big leg up for getting a job, and extra points for some nursing programs. Some schools even offer medical-oriented language classes.
Take a look at your college catalog and see if there are any other degrees you are close to earning in addition to nursing. You may find you're one or two classes away from a degree in some other subject.
Check with your nursing program to see if there are plans to add new prerequisites in the next few years. The program at the school I'm attending now recently added college-level chemistry as a prereq (before they accepted high school), and a lot of people are now struggling to get that out of the way.

I have finished all the pre req's and co req's for the CC program I am applying to. This Fall I will finish the Pre/co req's for the RN to BSN so that I can move seamlessly through after the ADN program. I also have the opportunity to apply directly to the BSN program, which obviously has it's advantages- if my grades are competitive.

I finished the pre reqs (English, Psych, A&P1 and Chemistry). I had also finished the support courses (A&P2, Dev Psych, Speech, End of life issues, patho, pharm, Spanish, Micro etc). I ended up having a semester with nothing to take. I took human sexuality (I thought it would be interesting), Nutrition, and med terminology.

Look to take a class that will be accepted in a BSN program if you think that is the direction you want to follow. It's one less thing to do later.

I am sure when I hear this answer I will know it was a dumb question.
Are these the classes that are required to finish the program entirely? Like you need Eng, Ana, Phys, Micro prereqs to apply, then you need coreqs like Psych, Dev Psych, Pharm, PE, etc. in order to graduate (separate from the actual nursing classes)? Please don't tell me there are another category of classes entirely hidden from me
My prereqs are done, my coreqs (if I have that right) yet for the ADN are pharm and PE; coreqs for BSN transfer are 2 maths, chem, US History. All of which I am signed up for in Fall and will decide which exactly make my final cut after two info meetings this month
Every day I learn something here. Why can't this forum just be school?

I have taken 6 prereqs in the past year, and am accepted to an accelerated BSN program starting Jan '09. I'm finishing up stats right now (only three more classes to go!), then I can kick back and RELAX for the rest of the summer and fall before hitting the books for 16 months straight come spring. :)
