Anyone Doin Online MSN in Education?

Published

Just wanted to shout out to anyone currently attending or has completed an online program getting their Masters in Education.

Where are you going?

Are you liking it? (As much as you can like it because I hate school).

Is there a "clinical" component?

Any other comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi, everyone.....I am starting my MSN in Nursing Education next month at Indiana Wesleyan University....all online. It's $9,000 per year. I can't wait!

Hi I am doing perinatal nurse educator. I go to St. Louis University online. I also take only one class at a time. It does have a practicum. Check out Mansfield University in PA http://www.mansfield.edu. It is TOTALLY online, they may do a practicum which you arrange locally (I am not certain). No GRE or MAT. I wanted perinatal ,so I didn't go w/ them. I am taking one course there this summmer. Also there is the University of Wyoming. The cost is fantastic, but you must do the GRE http://www.uwyo.edu Good luck.

I am finishing my first semester in the MSN in education program at Cal State Dominguez Hills on-line program. I LOVE it. It is user friendly and the staff are very nice and accessible. I have an ADN and a BA in Psychology. They have a pathway program for people like me and I am also taking some BSN courses. It should take around 3 and 1/2 years doing 6 units a semester with summers. There are clinical hours (student teaching) during the last two semesters with the role development courses. I am a California resident so it is costing me about $3,000 a year plus books. The program is available nationwide for $220 a unit. If you already have a BSN it wouldn't take as long!

My favorite part so far is all of the research I have had to do about becoming faculty and knowing I am looking forward to it!

I am starting a distance education program for MSN in nursing education at St. Joseph's College of Maine. There is a 2 week summer residency requirement at some point during the program. I am at the beginning of my first class! Theoretical Basis for Nursing. Good luck tweety

Tweety, I'm glad to know that you are thinking of going back to school, good luck. I am presently enrolled at Northern Arizona University MSN- Nurse Practioner Track. I am taking 6 credits a semester (2 courses) while working full time and it works just fine, it will take me 3 years to complete the program. Tuition is about $250 a credit hour. I will start my third year in Janurary and will be doing nothing but clinical for the last year, 800 hours. I really enjoy the program and I have not found it difficult at all, I have a 4.0 GPA at this time. Again good luck.

Hey JaneW, Like you I'm about to start MSN in Nursing Education at CSUDH this summer. I have ADN and BS in biology. I would like to get in touch with you. Honestly I am quite lost on how the course will be conducted. Can you private me?...I would love to hear from someone who is doing the same type of program. Thanks

Hi Tweety,

I just finished my first semester at the University of Missouri at Columbia Sinclair School of Nursing-online part. They have an on campus school too. I just loved it. I took Theory, and we worked in small online groups reading and talking about what we read just like we do at allnurses except, we had to read first. I met wonderful people, I loved the nurse theorests I read about, we wrote a letter to a journal re. an article that we picked, and we had to write a concept analysis on whatever we picked. There is a clinical component, but it doesn't start until you have taken a certain amt. of courses. The only problem is that if they have a contract with a facility, you are set. But if they don't have a contract with a facility in your area, you have to find a place to do your clinicals, and I am not sure how easy or difficult that will be. I have checked with nurses from my area on allnurses, and they gave me some ideas that were helpful re. who to contact etc.

I didn't like undergraduate school either, but I love this. I was feeling sorry for a student on allnurses who was hating taking undergraduate theory because of multiple choice tests. My course was nothing like that. It was just reading and discussing, and I loved it. I lf you are interested, let me know, and i will tell you who to get in touch with to talk to. Oh also, they had a great technical and library staff to help you. In fact, if you have AOL online, they have a service where you can IM for library HELP ANYTIME YOU WANT. TO HAVE aol ONLINE, YOU don't need to have aol service-in fact i have yahoo. They were so helpfull with my paper. Good luck with whatever you do, but I am happy you are going to do it.

I'm looking into Indiana Wesleyan University right now and was wondering how you liked the program so far.

I am a student at St. Joseph's College in Standish, Maine. Its an online program and my Master's will be in Nursing Education. I hope to finish this May. I like it...

I have applied for the online MSN at CSUDH for fall 08. I want to talk to some of you who are enrolled so I have someone to ask questions of. I'm nervous and excited. I can't believe its take so long to hear--admissions and record is taking forever to review my transcripts which should have been there over 2 weeks ago. Frustrated.

I'm currently an A.D.N. and I've been a nurse for 24 years. I put my goal on an advanced degree on the back burner but now it's back on the front burner. I've also been out of school for 20 years.

I'm getting ready to launch out on the ADN to MSN in Education program through The College Network/Regis University partnership. I live in California and Regis University is in Denver, CO. I'm getting my GEs (5 total) out of the way between now and December through The College Network (challenge testing). In January, I'll start the nursing core courses through Regis.

I've only heard good things about the nursing program at Regis, through a variety of alumni sources, so I have high expectations! The good news is, their program is 100% online with clinical components that can be arranged close to home (for both the BSN and MSN). It's set up to be compatible with working schedules (part time format). Also, as a bonus for those enrolled in online programs, Regis charges instate tuition fees. That was a clincher for me! I estimated the full cost of my A.D.N. to M.S.N. journey to come to approximately $28,000 including books, fees, and fees for GEs and core nursing courses (so long as fees don't continue to rise - which they probably will). It's not unusual to find a fee like this for programs that offer online ADN to BSN only (I checked) so I'm considering this to be a very good deal indeed and I'm excited to get started! The program will take about 3 1/2 years to complete. Not bad, and 3 1/2 years will pass regardless so I'm excited to have something to show for it.

I'd strongly encourage you to do a little research about this, as I did, and then take the bait if you feel the slightest urge. Once you put the first foot forward, momentum will carry you through!
