Anyone in CA about to start LVN Program?

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Hi there,

I am new to this board. I recently decided to do the LVN program. To get some experience I just took a p/t back office job at a doctors office. I have been researching so many schools and would love information on where you are going to take your classes and why you made that choice etc?

I am overwhelmed with all the different schools and the differences in tuition etc. If you can give me any input, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank so much!!!

I think that something to consider is the schools passing rates which you can find on the Calif State board for LVNs. If the passing rates are low, you can bet that school is having problems. I'd think twice about dropping $18,000 (seems to be the average tuition for those schools) on a school with a low NCLEX pass rate. I'm not targeting any school in particular on this site, just food for thought.

Gurnick Academy if you are in Northern Cal!

Neonates! How's Gurnick Academy? Please tell me more about tution, class schedules and the quality of education. It's one of the schools I'm looking into. THANKS!!!!

Is there any AId from the goverment? I filled out a FASA and only had to pay $20.00 a semester. I am done waiting to take my exam.

hi so im looking into american career college in anaheim or concord in garden grove i know acc is 30,000 and mike says concord is 22, how can i get grants and help

Currently looking for a school. I visited Casa Loma today, the tuition came to $25K, and Walter Jay, M.D., which ewas about $28K, kind of high, but I don't want to wait forever in a community college. I will visit American Career College tomorrow.

I am trying to figure if I can hold on to my job and take classes at the same time, I have 8 years there don't want to give it up yet (even though eventually I will quit).

I applied to Delta Community College in Stockton. Still waiting for the lottery. Has anyone attended or applied here?

anyone that went to concorde in garden grove for the lvn? is it true that they make you take the medical assisting program first? Can you choose to just go in directly to the lvn program?

I am starting an LVN program at Merritt College in the fall. As far as choosing a school, I would go to the state board website and view the pass rate on the NCLEX-PN for the different schools. Also, asking other LVN's where they went to school and how they liked it is also a good idea. The advantage of going to a vocational school such as Western Career College is that there is no lottery or wait list, BUT the vocational schools are quite expense. I took my chances witht the lottery at Merritt, and got in. The program is only $2,500 and with a fee waiver, your registration fees are paid in full. Plus with the junior colleges, you can collect your Pell Grant money to help with living expenses.

Best of luck to you choosing a school and your new job.

Hi Christine2009 .. Does the LVN program at Merritt College offer evening classes .. Im tryin to get into the LVN prgram and the one I found was NCP in Hayward the only problem is they only offer sallie mae and in housing loans whch is an arm and a leg .. You either need a huge down payment in order to get your monthly payments down to at least 500+ a month .. or if you dont have a down payment you will have to come up with 1500.00 / month as soon as your start school.. I appreciate your response..

Hey! Any one heard about California Career College or Integrity College Of Health?

I am going to be starting an LVN program in Orange County in August and have read mixed reviews about the school I will be attending, CNI. I was wondering if someone could tell me a little about the school, how the teachers are, how the program runs...and hopefully why they make you wait 3 months after completion of the program to take your license exam? (If that's even true) I know that like any school, CNI will take a lot of time and effort if you truely want to be successful. I believe you get out what you put into the program. I am a very good student and don't think I have much to worry about...just want to make sure that I made the best decision since it's not a cheap program.

Thanks everyone! Looking forward to starting the program and becoming a nurse :)

I am a student at Gurnick Academy in Concord and love the program! The cost is $27K and the classes are from 9am to 2pm or 5pm to 10pm Monday thru Friday. There is a prereq class that costs $1650 which cover Anatomy and Physiology along with Drug Dose Calcuations.

Going to Gurnick was the best desicion I ever made. The instructors are awesome and you really get a quality education.

What campus are you looking at?
