Travel nurses sometimes get beat to death with overload, our travel nurses would be up until 2:00 am. FYI

I'm sorry, I don't. Talking to other nurses in your area will give you a good well rounded view of the companies there. Something I didn't do before going into this HH company. But on the agencies I loved, other nurses spoke well of. Ask if you could ride out with a nurse a few times and keep your eyes and ears open. Listen to what they are saying to each other and to what they are not saying. Sometimes the companies take on so many patients the nurses are desperate for help, observe body language. Trying to keep up with 8 to 9 hh patients a day is very tough.

Anyone in CA about to start LVN Program?
I think that something to consider is the schools passing rates which you can find on the Calif State board for LVNs. If the passing rates are low, you can bet that school is having problems. I'd think twice about dropping $18,000 (seems to be the average tuition for those schools) on a school with a low NCLEX pass rate. I'm not targeting any school in particular on this site, just food for thought.

Home Health/Hospice Visit Pay by Location
A lot of nurses in our office in the south western part of the US couldn't find the good in Amedisys either. A lot jumped ship, within the same time frame. The reimbursement both in the per visit and mileage is poor. Amedisys dropped the mileage reimbursement when they moved in from $.55 a mile to $.30 then raised it to 42. Such a joke! Some of the newbees thought they were getting a raise! Amedisys won't pay for what you actually drive but what they figure you should have driven which is as little as possible. You will end up working a whole lot of extra hours outside of the housecall with redundant paperwork and not getting paid because it falls under the "per visit pay". I figured out my pay at an average of $15 an hour - gross. Amedisys is also very "write up happy" for "performance improvement" you are set up to fail and rarely is it otherwise. You are expected to be 100% 100% of the time and with all of the "little" rules, it is impossible to be 100% 100% of the time with Amedisys. Amedisys is also management heavy. There are almost as many if not more "supervisors" (in house not field supervisors) than there are field nurses. With the redundant documenation (documenting the exact same things for each visit in Four or more different areas including paper and computer, documenting each different care aspect in different places) information gets lost. Administration refuses to take responsibility so the field staff takes the fall. Keep track of all documentation, miles driven, actual hours worked in a personal file. You may need a file cabinet. With this company the most important thing is CYA CYA CYA CYA if you want to continue in your career as a nurse.

BEWARE of those per visit offers! You will end up working a whole lot of extra hours outside of the housecall with redundant paperwork and not getting paid because it falls under the "per visit pay". I figured out my pay at an average of $15 an hour - gross. Mileage isn't fully compensated if at all, administrations decides what miles you have driven and will pay you accordingly regardless of what you actually drive and you don't get paid for driving time either which can add up to hours. Amedisys is also very "write up happy" for "performance improvement" you are set up to fail and rarely is it otherwise. You are expected to be 100% 100% of the time and with all of the "little" rules, it is impossible to be 100% 100% of the time with Amedisys, unless you are in the administrative end of the business, then you can get a way with anything you want to. Doesn't take care of the field staff, only the office staff. Keep notes on ALL of your visits. You may need another file cabinet. Just CYA! Because Amedisys is top heavy with management and redundant paperwork, things go missing, then the field staff takes the fall. CYA CYA CYA. Good Luck:heartbeat
