Just wanting to get all of the Baker College students together, just to say "hey". Much love to all of you.:redbeathe
I am getting ready to take the Hesi test to see if I can get into the LPN program at Auburn Hills. Anyone have any advise on good study material. Have read that the flash cards and "secret" study guide were not good. Looking for all the help I can get.
Hi Kviazanko,
I'm a student at AH as well and will be taking the Hesi in June for the LPN program. I mostly gathered information about what to study from Allnurses. Many say that the study guide is pretty close and a good place to start. Others have used other study guides. I think the best thing to do is get the study guide, review it, and figure out what areas you might need to refresh on and/or study. There are quizzes in the back of the guide that one can use to figure out what they might need to work on. I bought the study guide from our bookstore at AH. I believe it was around $35. While I can't say for sure what is tested, it seems that making sure you know your fractions, ratios, conversions, and Roman numerals is a good start for math. Refreshing on all your A&P is a good idea, as well as going through the vocabulary lists in the guide, etc. Good luck! :)
My first name is Kim and i wouldn't mind having someone to study with on occasion if you are interested. i am usually at Baker on T/TH from 9-2:40
Hi Kim :) I'm a terrible group study person, mostly because I find I learn better when I'm writing, typing, working things out on paper, etc., but I'd be happy to meet you at school one day and review what is known to be on the test, etc. I met another from this board, Panky1, at AH the day of the nursing meeting. She, and a few from my A&P II class, went to the meeting together. I haven't seen her on the board, but maybe she'll see our messages. Calling Panky1! She was hoping to study together, too, so it would be great to get together in the student center one day and review. :)
Anyhow, I'm in class on Tues 11-2:40 and Thurs 11-12:40. Are we in the same class? LOL. I'm finishing up A&P II with Dr. Ross.
It's Panky1 here...Hi Kim! I have not been on the board since we met at the meeting....I have been finishing up my classes at MCC...Finals are this week so I have been studying for the midterms for AH and the finals for MCC...plus working...so to say the least just a little busy over here...LOL
As for the HESI, I took it at MCC and it was just like the study guide, not the exact same questions, but pretty close to what you need to study. I can't say that the Baker one will be the same, but they do have the same study guide available. As soon as I am done with MCC classes, I would love to meet up after class on Tues/Thurs at 2:40 to study for the hesi exam.

Hey there, Panky1! :) You must have gotten my email. I haven't used that on here before, but I figured it was the best way to get you. I figured you were busy with classes, etc., and I know you have that crazy MCC & AH schedule, but wasn't sure when you were done at MCC. Kim was thinking about meeting up, and I figured you might be interested as well.
I do not think that you have to have a perfect GPA but the most important thing is that you do not retake a class and do well on the NET. The problem with Baker (good and bad) is that if you do not get in the first time they give you an extra point to use during the next application process. So if someone had a 23.15 out of 24 points and did not get in the next time they will have 24.15 which is over the 24 total points. So you really need to set yourself up for maybe not getting in the first time because if they take 80 people and 200 apply that is 120 students that are getting 1 more point than the first time applicant.I am applying for Fall 2009, but mentally I am shooting for Spring 2010 just because I know that who ever did not get in this spring is going to have 1 more point than I do. But really it is okay because this is not a race, and hopefully at some point I will get in either way.
Just do the best you can, I know that stressing myself out over all of this makes it harder to do well.
I go to C. T. and I'm going to have to retake A & P I.
Will this effect me gettin into the nursing program??
I graduated from AH LPN program and belonged to the nursing guild, which is for nursing students only unless that has changed from last year. MA's etc.. have their own groups unless that has changed also
Thanks, adn44! I know I was talking about that in another thread and was wondering about the Nursing Guild. Christine told us that it is to our benefit to join it, but I haven't really looked into it yet, but will if I'm accepted into the program. I think any chance for the students to work together toward common goals is great. :)
Hi mrsrlg,
From my experience it would be very beneficial to have a lot of team spirit in this program. Unfortunately we did not have that, which was disappointing although not unusual in a nursing program. Some students do bond very tightly and help each other out, I hope that will be your experience. I studied by myself and did fine, some find group study to be helpful. It depends on each persons needs. The nursing guild is work, there are fund raisers, etc... to be organized and carried out on top of your regular studies. I was very disappointed in the lack of participation in our class, it made it very difficult as a few of us always had to be the people organizing and showing up to sell etc... Like I said earlier I hope that everyone will be enthusiastic and willing to help out whenever it is needed. Otherwise the few that do participate will end up doing it all.
