Anyone attending or taken the Accelerated BSN at Concordia in Irvine?

Published

Just wondering if anyone has taken this 12month program? Seems like a decent alternative to Mt. St. Mary's and CSUN as this is right here in Orange County.

Commetns appreciated.

AT the beginning you have 4 days of class/skills lab (from about 8 til 4 at least) and one day of clinical (12 hours). so it's basically a full time job and weekends are reserved for studying and homework. about half way into the semester you have a day off, so youre going to have 3 days of class and a clinical day. 2nd semester you have 2 full days of class and 2 clinicals. not sure about 3rd semester yet. It's definitely a full schedule and a lot of your "free" time is devoted to doing work for school. It's a lot of work, but it is an accelerated program and you get done in 3 semesters what other schools get done in 2 or 3 years, so there is a trade off.

hey everyone, i started the concordia program in august and would be happy to answer any questions.

Can you tell me if this school has recency for the prereqs? All my subjects were over 5 years. What are the prereqs. for this school?

Does this school have 5 year recency for the prerequisites? What subjects do they require to get into the program? Thanks

Specializes in Emergency Department.

All,

Here is a link to the information on Concordia.

They ask for a recency on the sciences of 5 years, but don't require it. You will be a more competitive candidate if its more recent.

Hope this helps!

How is the admission process? Is it very difficult to get in?

All my correspondence was by email so far.

Could someone tell me how you like this program so far? How often do you have a test and what is the passing? How many people have dropped since the class started? Thanks

How often do they give you a test? Do they test you in every subject? Do the instructors give study guide for the exam? How many had left the program? Thanks

Im not sure how difficult it is to get in right now. When I applied (for Fall 2009) I think there were 300 applications and they interviewed around 60, 30 are in the class. But I do know that there have been more applications for the same amount of spots, so it's getting more difficult.

You do test in every class. Most classes had 4-6 tests and a final (meaning a test every 2-3 weeks in every class). In labs you dont have "tests" but you have to pass your skills and do procedure checks, but those you don't really study for. We also do ATI tests (similar to a practice NCLEX) for each subject. If you plan on going to nursing school, you should probably get used to tests.

Oh forgot to answer your other question. No one has left the program in our group. I think 3 or 4 left in the first class, and 2 the class before us. These were due to not only grades but people who were not able to fully commit themselves to the program.

Your answers are indeed helpful. You didn't mention if they give study guide before the exam. What is their passing grade on every test? Thanks

some professors give study guides...some dont. And they're not really very specific, just general topics to study. I have no idea about passing grades.
