Anyone attending or taken the Accelerated BSN at Concordia in Irvine?

Published

Just wondering if anyone has taken this 12month program? Seems like a decent alternative to Mt. St. Mary's and CSUN as this is right here in Orange County.

Commetns appreciated.

Hi luckykim!

I'm in the same boat. I applied to Fall 2009 class at Concordia and have yet to hear from them. Good luck to you. I think Eclaire's comments and other comments were helpful. I have to take the theology class if I get in, but I'm not a religion minor or major. I'm waiting and I know that letter get mailed out by April 1st, so keeping my fingers crossed. Can anyone else that may be in the program, applied to the program or considered applying, share more information? Thanks

hello, charmeleon!

I am so happy to hear from you!!! I sent an e-mail to ms. Bostrom and she

said around 150 people complete their applications out of 300 applicants.

I am not a religion minor or major, either. my major is biology!!

Good luck to you, too!! it will be great to see you in class at Concordia

university. I heard that Concordia university is really great place to study.

Let's wait more!!! I will keep praying unitil I get the acceptance letter!

Again, Good luck!!

Thanks

Hi..Im in the Concordia program right now, and I love it. The teachers are great, accomidating and fair! Yes, it is a new program so there are inperfections...but every school has its issues. The first class (those who started in August) had to deal with a lot of stuff, the staff definitely listened to their complaints and made big changes. As for the theology class, ya they are expensive but they are easy, and your learning, every bit of knowledge is good!! This school really cares about us as students, they are compassionate and caring. My clinical instructor is amazing, smart, and I have had great hospital experiences. This is an accelerated program, its very fast, so some days you are sitting in class from 7:30am-5:30pm and your tired and you have to get up the next morning to go to clinicals, but in my opinion, it is soooo worth it!!!! If anyone has any other questions, I would be happy to answer them! Hope this is helpful : )

Sorry I am new on here, so please forgive me. I am very interested in the Accelerated BSN program at concordia, but I messed up when I was at CSULB and got a GPA of 2.3. I am taking my pre reqs and getting all A's so far. But after I calculate all my class when I apply it will only come out to 2.7 or 2.8 if I do will in Micro. Do you think that they will ever consider looking at my application.

Thank you,

Desperate Nursing student

YES, definitely apply anyway. Its private, lutheran and a new program so they are more forgiving. I didnt do that great in my undergrad and got all As in my prereqs as well. I would apply as soon as you can. I know they accept applications even if your not done with your prereqs yet...good luck....

Hello!

the Accelerated BSN program at irvine is new. however, they are really

competitive!! my gpa was above 3.0 and i got good grade in all pre-req.

However, the candidates who got accepted have average 3.5 gpa for fall 2009

cohort!

therefore, i got rejected! they did not even give me an interview opportunity.

i think it is better to find other schools!

good luck to you!! there are many good schools out there for you!!

Thank you so much for your replies, I am so glad that I found this web site. Thank you again to everyone. I really appreciate everyone feedback. Very encouraging.

Hi Dispritewannabern,

Concordia looks at cumulative GPA. I got an almost 3.4 cumulative and a 3.75 in pre-reqs, and I didn't get in, didn't even got an interview with good recommendation letters (I was top 2 in my micro class out of 100 and top 3 in physio out of 45+) and a well-written personal statement. My undegrad was finance, which explains a lower cumulative gpa. It's ok though because I wouldn't know how to get $30K in tuition plus other expenses. I got in Accelerated BSN in Nevada State College which will start this August. It's a move, but I could just rent a room there and visit my kids every weekend (I saw the schedule already for 1st sem it's Mon-Fri only). Tuition fees are only $8K for a whole year!!! Books and other fees will be around $3K, but I could still get financial aid of around $13K+ despite of my undergrad student loans. No expensive religion classes... So I suggest if you guys are flexible and willing to move try NSC. It's so easy to get in. =)

Hello.....thanks for your informative post. I was just asked to come in for an interview for the BSN CUI program for Jan 2010 term. I was hoping you could give me any advice/information on the interview process? What types of questions should I be prepared to answer? Also, they haven't "Officially" responded to my prerequisites. Did you find them pretty lenient on accepting your classes? will they let you know during the interview process what they will accept? After the interview how long did it take you to find out if you are accepted? Sorry for all the questions. I'm trying to be as prepared as I can. :)

I was told the 7:30-5:30 classes are only the first 4 weeks, is this true and what should I expect schedule wise after that?

Hi eclaire. Thanks for your post about Concordia. Are you still in the program? Still enjoying it? I've applied for the January 2010 cohort and just found out that I have an interview next week. Can you offer any advice about the interview process? How many of those interviewed will make it into the program? Thanks so much for your time!

Can I ask how the two of you were notified? Are you in the Monday or Thursday interview session? I'm still waiting on hearing back. Do you know how many actually applied for Jan 2010?

Hi alizard. I received an e-mail from Concordia last week. I'm in the Thursday interview session. I don't know how many applied for the January session...I'm sorry!
