Anyone attended Western Career College?

U.S.A. California

Has anyone here attended, or know anyone who has attended Western Career College for their LVN program? If so, I was wondering what they thought of it. I'm currently thinking about it. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

All I know about colleges such as Western or other vocational schools (UEI, Summit Career College, Bryman ect) it that they are good schools but very expensive. A Medial Assistant I know who graduated from Bryman spent $7,000 or $9,000 for her certification, but later found out about ROP which could have been almost free or $11/unit at a community colleg. She later on asked how much the LVN program cost, and they told her it was about $17,000.

If you attend Western Carrer College you should ask how much it costs and if the classes you take for the LVN program are transferrable if you later want to get your RN. I would suggest to find a community college or ROP that might offer the program. At a local community college, I know that the whole one year program cost $1,000-$1,500. Hope this helps.

I think the LVN program I attended well over 20 years ago changed hands a few times and is now Western Career College.

I needed a student loan to attend but there was a four year waiting list for the community colleges nearby.

The classes were transferable so I was able to take pre requisites and enter the second year od an ADN program.

Eight years later I finished my BSN.

I am attending WCC right now and am scheduled to graduate next year. I really could not recommend it though. They have huge staffing problems and don't provide many acute care clinical sites. Not to mention I am paying out the nose (almost $30K, no joke) and some of the teachers treat you like children, even though this is adult education. I can only speak of my campus. I can't say I have ever been talked down to like I am here. I keep having to remind myself that I am NOT a stupid person, despite what my instructor is telling me. The good news is that I still really want to be a nurse, so if you are competely sure that nursing is the only thing you wil ever be happy doing, and you would like someone constantly trying to convince you that you aren't going to make it as a nurse then I guess I can recommend it. But even then, not really.

Also, I was told by the term before me that we don't get to see a human give birth, but instead we get to watch a robot mannequin have a robot baby. I am a little sad about this, and find it creepy, but if you like robots...

I didn't get into any RN programs in the Bay Area so I figured I would become an LVN and bridge eventually, but I wish someone had told me how disorganized and unprofessional this school is, because I would have gone elsewhere. If there are any other LVN programs near you, look into them. You would probably regret going to WCC.

Lastly, you don't realize how loud you want to scream at people who sing, "You can do it!" when you tell them where you go to school. I avoid saying the name of my school at all costs. It's kidn of shameful for me to be going to a school that is advertized between the Cosby Show and Andy Griffith, but again that's just me.

Good luck, Quis.

what are the clinical and classroom day and times for WCC?

Send a PM to msdobson, I know he was looking into this school. Don't know if he's going there.

ok I will thank you

Hello

I am currently going to WCC in Antioch, Ca for the LVN program.

Cost for everything: 43k

It includes tuition, books, uniform, & everything.

If you are looking for a school that will get you in and out, and get a job. This could be the program for you.

It is a 16month program, which consists of 4 terms, or like 4 semesters. I am in my 2nd term.

Advice to you, if you are considering to go there, you should take some classes before you go. because you can save some money. For instance, you can take Nutrition, Human Growth & Development, Anatomy and Physiology at a community college and save alot. If you pass those classes and show your transcripts they will take money off your tuition. which is a big plus..

If you have any questions please let me know.

Alyxandria,

How is the program going for you so far? I am interested in starting the LVN program their in October and wanted to get some input. Im kinda sketchy about having to get my LVN before my RN (due to grades) but it seems the only way to go at this point. I would appreciate any input thanks!

The program has its flaws, but i believe its still good. I am in my 2nd term, which is known to be melt down term. I actually like going here, however, it does take alot of your time because of the amount of studying you have to do. but its worth it, because, You're entering an accelerated program, so of course, its going to be tough and very fast. IT really is a program that person has to be dedicated to. But whats also great, we use the same books as a graduated school uses, including we are being trained as RNs, so i believe i will be overprepared for the boards, which is great! i rather be overprepared than underprepared.

The reason i attended WCC is because nowadays, such as universities, states, and community colleges, have waiting lists and i dont have time to be on a waiting list. WCC gets you in and out. & that was perfect for my situation. As for only going for LVN and not RN, seems okay for me. Because i plan to be an LVN for 2years, to get on my own two feet, use that time to pay off some of my loans, and take all the prerequisites for the RN program including finishing my AA degree. What is also good, some of the loans, will give you "Spare time" i guess thats how i can put it, if you would like to go back to school, such as going back to get your RN and you wont have to pay while you are in school.

great advice, thanks and lots of luck!!! by chance how much per credit are the classes at WCC as opposed to say comm college??

At WCC you dont pay by credit. Classes vary. For instances, taking their anatomy and physiology is $2500. vs. community college, you pay 20 or more per credit. ITs cheaper to take the classes that i mentioned earlier at community and then transfer them to wcc to save money.
