Has anyone here attended, or know anyone who has attended Western Career College for their LVN program? If so, I was wondering what they thought of it. I'm currently thinking about it. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated!
Alyxandria,
I have been considering the LVN program at the WCC in Antioch as well, but I was recently told that they charge for the clinical experience and that they won't give you your degree until you have paid off your loans. Seems like it would be hard to get a job in the field without your degree!! Have you heard anything about this?? I actually have taken all of the prereqs for the LMC RN program, but since it's a lottery I have been trying for 3 years to get in! I'm sick of waiting so I was thinking about becoming an LVN first and then just transitioning later. Anyway, I appreciate any insight you have into the whole student loan issue. What about those of us with bad credit, is it still possible to get a loan??
WCC is run by people who do not understand nursing. They are primarily interested in collecting enormous fees from unwitting students who, for the most part, cannot get into traditional, college-based programs. They get rid of the teachers who have standards and keep the teachers that pass everyone. That being the case, what kind of education can someone really expect to get?
I don't know if that is true. I looked up the pass rate on state exams for Western Career College in Antioch. Last term 100%, this term 85%. That is very good. State average is about 73%. I am looking into going and know that is expensive, but do not want to wait for the lottery at LMC. I am to old to wait.....
I hope I can meet some of my future classmates here.

If you live in that area, Go to LMC and apply for the LVN program. It cost like 3k and it's an Accredited program. WCC is a joke. 43k for a LVN ADN and 68k for a BSN..
Yeah right....
The only way you would not be able to get loan is if you had Financial aid in collections or you did not meet the cut off for aid. IE your made to much.
I looked Western Career College on the California State Website. They are accredited. I am also looking into Healthcare College of California in Stockton on Acacia St. They are less than 1/2 the price of Western Career College! They are also accredited. Does anyone know anything about them, or have any personal experience with them?
Lmc has a long list of applicants and you are put in a lottery. I know one girl who tried for 3 yrs and one for 5 yrs. They just pull names at random. No matter how good your grades are!
There is a college in stockton....healthcare college of san joaquin. I am considering them. They don't get financial aide, but they are 1/2 the cost of western career college. Only $22,000 plus $1,600 for 4 prereq courses. They are accredited. I checked on the calif website. If anyone is interested in going and checking it out with me (looking at it). I live in brentwood and we could rideshare!
THE SCHOOL IS ACTUALLY HEALTHCARE COLLEGE OF CALIFORNIA. THIS IS THEIR WEBSITE.

I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TOMORROW TO CHECK IT OUT. IS ANYONE INTERESTED IN GOING WITH ME? I LIVE IN BRENTWOOD. THE SCHOOL IS IN STOCKTON. ABOUT A 30 MILE DRIVE.
HelloI am currently going to WCC in Antioch, Ca for the LVN program.
Cost for everything: 43k
It includes tuition, books, uniform, & everything.
If you are looking for a school that will get you in and out, and get a job. This could be the program for you.
It is a 16month program, which consists of 4 terms, or like 4 semesters. I am in my 2nd term.
Advice to you, if you are considering to go there, you should take some classes before you go. because you can save some money. For instance, you can take Nutrition, Human Growth & Development, Anatomy and Physiology at a community college and save alot. If you pass those classes and show your transcripts they will take money off your tuition. which is a big plus..
If you have any questions please let me know.
Hi Alyxandria,
I am considering the LVN program at western in Antioch & I asked Laurie if I took the classes that you mentioned would tuition be cheaper, she said no because those classes are only prereqs for the RN program. Can you confirm? Sometimes I feel like those people refuse to tell you how you can save money, they would rather you pay the full amount!
Thanks, & I would relly appreciate your help.
