Has anyone here attended, or know anyone who has attended Western Career College for their LVN program? If so, I was wondering what they thought of it. I'm currently thinking about it. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated!
THE SCHOOL IS ACTUALLY HEALTHCARE COLLEGE OF CALIFORNIA. THIS IS THEIR WEBSITE.http://www.healthcarecollegeca.org/
I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TOMORROW TO CHECK IT OUT. IS ANYONE INTERESTED IN GOING WITH ME? I LIVE IN BRENTWOOD. THE SCHOOL IS IN STOCKTON. ABOUT A 30 MILE DRIVE.
I graduated for Healthcare College of California in 2010. I already had a BS in a non nursing field, and was laid off from my previous job and didn't want to wait to take all the prerequisites and waiting lists of other programsn so my goal was to complete the program quickly and be eligible for the NCLEX, so that I could get back to work. This was the story of many others in my class as well. I was aware of the challenges with private schools, and this school was no exception.
There were constant changes in our schedule; lack of communication between staff so we would show up at a clinical site only to find out that it had been switched and no one bothered to call us; our two week break between semesters was shorted to 7 days, and we were told this 1 week prior to our break (some students already made plans, which had to be changed), and our program was extended by 2 weeks (we were given about a months notice and some students had already made plans and had airline tickets to be out of town).
Not to scare anyone off, if you are like me and needed to finish school quickly, this program is accredited, it only takes 9 months (10 in our case due to extensions), It's $22,000 (half the cost of WCC), and after you complete the program you will be eligible to sit for the NCLEX, which is the main point. Just be prepared to have a "go with the flow" attitude, have patience, and don't let the negativity of others get you down. If you are the type of student that needs hand holding, or need to always be organized, and with a set schedule, you will have a hard time in this program, so this may not be the school for you.
Just to add, The first 4 students in my class, myself included, just took the NCLEX and PASSED the 1st time. It's really all about how much time you are willing to put into learning.
Hope this helps!
Hi Alyxandria,I am considering the LVN program at western in Antioch & I asked Laurie if I took the classes that you mentioned would tuition be cheaper, she said no because those classes are only prereqs for the RN program. Can you confirm? Sometimes I feel like those people refuse to tell you how you can save money, they would rather you pay the full amount!
Thanks, & I would relly appreciate your help.
@ mmazola..
People in my class has taken Nutrition, Anatomy and Physiology, Human growth and development @ community college, & they didnt have to take the class because they showed proof. You can show your transcripts. I think you should take it @ a community college because you're eventually going to need to take those class, & the classes can go towards RN program, If you wish, and even towards a degree. Vs. WCC, is not transferrable.

"Hello
I am currently going to WCC in Antioch, Ca for the LVN program.
Cost for everything: 43k
It includes tuition, books, uniform, & everything.
If you are looking for a school that will get you in and out, and get a job. This could be the program for you.
It is a 16month program, which consists of 4 terms, or like 4 semesters. I am in my 2nd term.
Advice to you, if you are considering to go there, you should take some classes before you go. because you can save some money. For instance, you can take Nutrition, Human Growth & Development, Anatomy and Physiology at a community college and save alot. If you pass those classes and show your transcripts they will take money off your tuition. which is a big plus..
If you have any questions please let me know."

Hey all! I am interested in attending CCC for LVN. I just finishing the medical assisting program in Stockton its a great school. But they don't offer the LVN program there. I am wondering if they have night classes in sac? or if its all full time? And I have taken nutrition, human development and psychology are those classes taken off the bill? How much did it cost? Did anyone get grants? Has anyone gone from the MA program to the LVN program? If so did any of the classes count toward the LVN program? Thanks Rachel.
