Hi,
Since there was a very extensive thread last year about application process to Yale, I thought I would start a new thread for 2009 hopefuls. I am working on my application and wanted to know who else chose Yale as one of their options. What program? How is the application process going? Essay writing? Any anxieties? I am applying to the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing but still deciding on the specialty. The hardest part for me is the essay writing as English is not my first language, but I have been working on it for some time now and getting close to finishing the final version. Anyone else wants to share?
I am applying to the FNP specialty....I've heard it is one of the most competetive, but I don't really know. Only a few more weeks and we will all know if we got an interview! :)
yeah, I'm applying to the FNP specialty also, and when I spoke to the Dir. of Admissions she said that the FNP specialty is the one that gets the most applicants. So I know that if I don't get an interview and advance to the next round, then at least I know it was very competitive and I shouldn't be too hard on myself!
Oh no! Don't feel that way....we all have an equal chance of getting in! This forum is never meant to make people feel worse, but rather to be a support system. Keep believing in yourself...I know that each of us will get in somewhere that is a good fit and will end up being a great nursing school experience!
I am very nervous too. I applied to the FNP program. I am set on going to school this year so I have a few other applications out there. I actually have been accepted at Thomas Jefferson U in Philly, but the Yale schedule fits so much better with my life. I am eager to hear about an interview. I too am worried that my undergraduate GPA isn't high enough. Not much I can do about that now, I can only hope that they see the improvement in my current course work. So are most people only applying to Yale?

Hey Pianitra,
Yeah, I'm only applying to Yale at this point--its the no prereqs draw! For me it was a total last minute decision to apply (we're talking Sept. 30!), so I scrambled to take the GRE and get everything in on time...knock on wood, it all worked out, lol! If you don't make it in to Yale, where else do you think you might want to go?
Hey everyone!
I'm new to allnurses.com (kind of). I was always reading the forums while I was working on my applications but at least then I felt like I could do something about my anxiety (work on my personal statement, etc). But now all I can do is sit and wait?? Haha so I finally decided to join you guys and made an account. I applied to the Psychiatric/Mental Health specialty at Yale, and also applied to UCSF, columbia and JHU. Anyway, good luck to everyone in the following weeks!

I second that, Abby! First off, I think everyone at this point is feeling really anxious as we're all waiting for letters for an interview. But, I also think that a lot of ppl who are applying to certain caliber schools will all be applying to the same schools like Yale, UPenn, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, USCF.... and the list goes on...so even if Yale only has slots for 80 people for GEPN, they will have to accept more than 80 people because some of those people will end up going to other schools of similar caliber.
I do believe there is a good place for everyone in this and the right fit is really what matters. I did fall in love with Yale when I visited it in May of this year, but I also look at what school is the best as a lifestyle fit for me which I think may be Columbia because of location and because of the structure of the program (students can work as RN's after the first year and go to school part time) so I do think finding your fit is the most important thing! And in the end, I do believe everything happens for a reason!
I'm sure we're all waiting anxiously but those letters from Yale will eventually come whether we're driving ourselves crazy about them or not. If you dont' wait for them, they'll come sooner than you think!!

true story. If you look at the thread started by last year's applicants (yep, I read all 34 pages of it!), they noted that the admissions office said they generally accept about 140 out of the 200 or so that get interviews. So, assuming this holds true for this year's applicant pool, those who get interviews probably have about a 70% chance of getting in! woot! much better odds than i thought...
Hey Meredith09. Great last minute decision, must have taken a lot of work to get things together. :yeah:Good job! I am set on going to school this year and I was prepared to apply to 9 schools, but luck had it and I was accepted by Thomas Jefferson University in Philly. It takes a bit of pressure off because I know that there is somewhere to go to school. I am really hoping for Yale though. It just seems like people are really positive about the program and the timing really fits better with my life not to mention it will be closer to my family (but really any of the schools are closer than Seattle, where I am now). I have to say I am daunted by the amount of money it will cost. I am hoping to hear from a grad whether or not they think it was worth it. Have you considered price at all? Do you have any thoughts about taking on that much debt? I do look at this as an investment, it is just a huge amount of money.
I am counting the days until we hear about interviews. At least by then we will have more information.:nuke:

Hey Pianitra!
Yes, the cost of this program does put a damper on things to say the least! However, I'm already going to be shouldering quite a bit of student loans from college, so... I actually am really giving serious consideration to the National Health Service Corps service commitment scholarship--full ride, fees, plus a monthly stipend in exchange for one year of service for every year they support you! Pretty sweet deal, but I think its only for primary care practitioners (I'm going for FNP). I am already about 1,100 miles from home as it is, and going to Yale will put me about 2,100 miles away--haven't decided if this is a pro or a con yet How is Seattle, btw? I've always kinda wondered what living in the Pacific NW would be like... As to the interviews, Sandra told me (and this was about two months ago when I first spoke with her) that they were hoping to send out letters by December 9, so I'm praying/crossing my fingers, eyes, and toes that we get them by the end of next week or the beginning of the week after that! woot! I don't know what I'm going to do with myself if I get bad news then, b/c I'll be in the middle of finals! :barf01: Just livin day to day...
Hi all!
I'm new to allnurses but have been pouring over this and the UCSF forums the past few days--all the sharing of info and support is wonderful, and I decided to join up and join in. Anyway, would love to hear how the process goes for everyone; I guess right now we're all just waiting!
