Hi,
Since there was a very extensive thread last year about application process to Yale, I thought I would start a new thread for 2009 hopefuls. I am working on my application and wanted to know who else chose Yale as one of their options. What program? How is the application process going? Essay writing? Any anxieties? I am applying to the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing but still deciding on the specialty. The hardest part for me is the essay writing as English is not my first language, but I have been working on it for some time now and getting close to finishing the final version. Anyone else wants to share?
Hey Pianitra!Yes, the cost of this program does put a damper on things to say the least! ... National Health Service Corps service commitment scholarship--full ride, fees, plus a monthly stipend in exchange for one year of service for every year they support you! Pretty sweet deal, but I think its only for primary care practitioners (I'm going for FNP).
How is Seattle, btw? ...
Sandra told me (and this was about two months ago when I first spoke with her) that they were hoping to send out letters by December 9, so I'm praying/crossing my fingers, eyes, and toes that we get them by the end of next week or the beginning of the week after that! woot! I don't know what I'm going to do with myself if I get bad news then, b/c I'll be in the middle of finals! :barf01: Just livin day to day...
It is always a good plan to live day to day. Although it does get difficult when we are all waiting for such exciting and potentially life changing news. What are you studying now? I am amazed by the folks that are still working on degrees that want to head straight in to an accelerated nursing program. It makes sense, but I was just glad to be done with school when I finished my undergrad degree. Good for you, knowing what you want to do.
I too applied to the FNP concentration at Yale. I just glanced at the National Health Service Corps, at this point I want to have more control over where I live. I wonder if they are flexible about location......
Seattle is great! I am sad to be leaving, but my family really is never going to leave New England and I want to be near them. So far the winter here has been very mild and dry ( very unSeattle-like). I am not sure how I am going to readjust to east coast winters, but I am looking forward seeing snow this time next year. Seattle is an awsome city full of young people with interesting ideas and very progressive on environmental issues. It has been a great environment to spend some time in. I would recommend it, if you can live without too much sun for 6 months of the year. That is what really gets to you, its not the rain so much just the dark, gray sky.
Wow, that is exciting about the interview letters. I too read the entire thread from last year, and it seemed like they were notified later than that. I would love to have more time to figure out the trip vs. phone interview and make plans for travel.
Wishing us all patience until then!

I'm studying art history right now, and working on finishing up the last semester of my third foreign language (Italian) :grn: It's been fun, but I am soooo anxious to get going with nursing school and get out there in the workforce (yes, it's a lot of school, but I'm thinking it's better to get it over with now). I'm going to have to adjust from living in the south for four years to New England winters myself, ouch! I hope we get the letters sooner than last year's class did...i'm going to have to get my mail forwarded home over the break or something if we don't, grr.
Its so nice to hear more about everyone! I had no idea the letters would be sent out by Dec. 9th! That makes me more nervous.... I live in the South so it will probably take a few days to get to me. I know they let some people know via email last year if their letters took a long time to get there. Has anyone heard if they will do the same this year? Yikes!

abby,
just to reiterate, I don't know if they will for sure send out the letters on the 9th, just that they said they were going to try to get them out by then...as to the email thing, i'm not sure if that's a standard thing or not...p.s. where in the south are you? I'm in Memphis, and our postal service is ridiculously s...l...o...w, so be sure and let me know when you get yours, so I can be on the lookout for mine
Look at what the Dir of Admissions just sent:
Hi All,
I wanted to update you on a change in protocol at the YSN Admissions Office. In an effort to speed up initial decision/interview notifications, YSN has decided to email your letters instead of mailing them. The “letter” will be sent out early next week and will be emailed to the address given on your application form. The subject line will read – “YSN application status update.”
Please email me back if you DO NOT want us to email your letter. For example, you may share an email account or use a work account and don’t want others to have access to your letter. If this is the case, provide me with your current December mailing address and we will send out a hard-copy letter.
Sincerely,
Angela
