Hi,
Since there was a very extensive thread last year about application process to Yale, I thought I would start a new thread for 2009 hopefuls. I am working on my application and wanted to know who else chose Yale as one of their options. What program? How is the application process going? Essay writing? Any anxieties? I am applying to the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing but still deciding on the specialty. The hardest part for me is the essay writing as English is not my first language, but I have been working on it for some time now and getting close to finishing the final version. Anyone else wants to share?
Hi all!
I'm new to this forum (i didn't realize that a 2009 post had started and was reading old posts from 2008 for Yale)
I got an interview as well and will be in New Haven Jan 22nd!!! I'm new to this whole thing, so I'm confused about the potluck! Is it student run or does the Yale Nursing Adminstration put it on! I'm going to be staying with my brother at Harvard and taking the bus Jan 22nd in the morning for the interview.
I'm applying to the Acute/Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist Track with a Specialty in Cardiology. I'm nervous and excited! I've been to Yale once before so hopefully I don't get lost. Anyone have any advice in terms of attire and mental preparation for the interview?
Also, I graduated from UCLA this past spring. Anyone else from California?
Welcome and congratulations CaliforniaGirl2! So far I gathered that there are at least 4 interview dates: January 20, 21, 22, and 23. I am confused about the potluck as well. Do they have it for each group of students on each of the interview days? I guess we will hear about it more in the near future. I am looking forward to meeting some of you. Is anyone else interviewing on January 23rd? I remember that Darkallstar/Jeremy has his interview that day.
As to the attire, I will be wearing a pantsuit. From what I gathered from some forum posts, we should look professional but not over the top.
I wish we could get some interview pointers from the previous year's applicants. My interview is scheduled for 3 PM but as to how long it will be I am not sure. Maybe 45-60 minutes. Just guessing.
I majored in psychobiology. What about you uclabruin428? What kind of stuff did you do at UCLA? Maybe we have crossed paths? I was in Kappa Delta, Dance Marathon Committee, USAC, Women's Club Lacrosse. Oh and I'm leaving Sunday the 25th, but I'm staying in Boston and hoping to check out Columbia (i also applied there) while I'm out there on the east coast.
Thanks for the welcome! I'm excited to meet all of you in January! And I agree about interview tips. I read from past posts last year that they had a variety of questions ranging from "what is the most stressful situation you've been in and how did you handle it?" to "why yale? or why your specialty of interest?" So hopefully someone can give us more incite on what to expect!
So...I finally got up the nerve to call, and I got an interview for the FNP specialty! She said they were just waiting on faculty to tell them what times they have free to interview me, and that was what was the hold up (I am not sure really why, but at this point, I don't care!) Hope to see you all there!
Hey everybody!
This is my first time posting, but I have been poking around all the forums for a while. What a relief it was to learn that other people are experiencing the same crazy I am from applying to grad programs.
I received my interview notification this morning for January 22nd 11:30 am and applied for the Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist track. Anybody else apply for the same? I graduated this past summer from UCSD, and currently live in LA. So I will also be flying out from Ca to Yale for the interview. If anyone will be around the 22nd for coffee later on or something, let me know.
Also, I am pretty nervous about the interview, and definitely need to do a lot of preparation. Well, its nice to meet everyone and hopefully I will see some of you in January! happy holidays!!
Congrats to everyone who get an interview!
I got my email this morning. My interview is scheduled for Jan. 22nd in the afternoon. I applied for the Nurse-Midwifery specialty. Are there any other nurse-midwifery applicants who will be interviewing?
About myself: Graduated from Georgetown in 2006 with a degree in Foreign Service. So, this is a big change for me, but I'm really excited about it. I currently work in the research field in NJ.
shmooper- I have my interview the same time! I'm applying for the Acute/Critical Care CNS in Cardiology (so that is pretty simliar to Oncology CNS)
abbybaby- YAY! i'm glad you found out about your interview! way to take control of the situation:yeah:
uclabruin428- facebook me soon so we can laugh about this situation! :chuckle
p.s. i'm pretty sure i'm obsessed with these smilies. they're the best.
Hi,
I've been reading threads on the website occasionally for the past 8 months but this is my first time posting. I too was offered an interview at Yale and am very excited. I figured it was finally time to join the community discussion! Oh, and I'm coming from California too, so I'll be flying out to the snow this Jan!
Hello from snowy Minnesota!
I have yet to hear anything about my interview! Should I bite the bullet and send an e-mail? I am becoming a bit compulsive about checking my gmail.
On a more positive note, this Thursday I am jetting off to Philadelphia for the University of Pennsylvania's FNP interview day. Has anyone else interviewed at Penn? Any words of wisdom?
Thanks for all the great posts! I wish you all the best and hope I get the opportunity to join you in New Haven!

suga70: my interview is on the 20th. I minored in Neuroscience in college and I got really obsessed w/ the brain and got involved in a lot of research in that area, but I started working at an OCD clinic and that's really when I decided I wanted to go into PMHNP. Its just so cool to me to see how these disorders manifest in different people.
sprinklez: cool! Nice to meet you (if you can consider this "meeting") haha. Did you apply to any other programs?
hey everyone,
I was wondering how you guys are booking your flights back (for those that are flying). Are you planning on leaving right after your interview, or sandra esposito said there are tentative plans for a potluck? And do you guys know how long the interviews usually are? Thanks :)
