Anyone applying to MJC or San Joaquin Delta College?

Published

I'm applying to MJC and Delta for Fall '10. Just wondering if anyone else out there is also applying? :)

nrs209-I would say go for Delta's lvn bridge program. I considered Unitek and those other private tech schools and after meeting with the counselors personally, I did not think it was worth the money. In most of the private schools you don't even get time in an actual hospital. When I spoke to a rep @ unitek they told me all of the clinicals would be done in a long term care facility (for LVN). In addition, unitek is not WASC accredited so you can't get grants. In my personal opinion, I think you would get a much better education from delta over unitek. Community college programs just tend to be better. I will say though, one other option you may consider if you want to go the LVN route, is Xavier. They are quite a bit cheaper (around 20k) and focus strictly on nursing education. I have heard great things about their program. I also spoke with the director of their program. She was VERY nice and informative, and did not try a bunch of "sales" techniques like many of those larger schools. BUT if it were me, I'd hold out for Delta or another community program, and maybe get your CNA in the meantime. Also, maybe take pharmacology while you are waiting. This will help you TREMENDOUSLY when you get into the nursing program. I'm wishing I took it : )

SBNRN- I am @ Lodi memorial and I LOVE IT!! Mrs. Jenkins is the clinical instructor and she is awesome!! She is really laid-back and easy going. Lodi is great because it is a newer facility, and everything is automated. From what I hear, everyone loves their site though. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. None of the sites have a "bad rep" as far as I know.

Hi dpeterson: I truly appreciate the advice. Actually, I am now practicing as an LVN since 2006, it seems like it's too long, lol. I have taken all my pre-reqs for the RN program, and I'm still debating. I may just wait another year and see if everything works out at JCs

sbnrn2b - I am at Kaiser. I really like it. It is a smaller hospital and it has been great for my first semester. I agree with dpeterson. I think everyone likes their hospital. I do have to say that I think the clinical instructor for Lodi is awesome too (although I like mine too). I haven't heard of any "bad" hospitals, they are all different. You will end up switching for every class, so you will get to experience many of them. Hope that helps!

hi guys,

I have ques how long they gonna take them to response.... As they closed the application on 20th of September( Delta College). And the people in your group who received email to submit documents were accepted or were some on wait list..

harry123 - Not quite sure what you are asking, but I'll attempt to answer. Our application period was during the first week of April and we were notified on April 21st to submit documents. I'm not sure how they determine the wait list, but when you are invited to submit documents, they don't tell you your ranking #. We did have a few people during the first week of school that were accepted into the program that were notified that week. Hopefully that answered your question. :)

MAKE SENSE..It means who ever got email to submit documents, they were in...:uhoh3:

kpatterson4 - Thanks for the info! Manteca is closer for me so I was hoping to get a Manteca hospital (see me thinking positive:), lol), but not at the expense of my rn education. I didn't realize that you rotated hospitals, course it makes sense now that I think about it. My home school is mjc so I really haven't heard anything about how Delta's program works except thru this site, which has been sooo helpful! Congradulations to all of you that have made it into the program, and Thanks for continuing to send out information to those of us that haven't quite made it in yet.

Harry 123, not everyone who received an email to "submit documents" is accepted into the program. That just means you were "qualified" to enter the program. They do a final ranking of ALL the qualified applicants and send out a FINAL email to those that rank the highest. (The top 70) or so. Hope this helps.

Harry123 - Maybe. There were people who submitted documents but for one reason or another were not accepted (something was wrong with their application). So, just make sure everything is filled out correctly and exactly how they want you to do it. :)

Does anyone know how long it will take for SJDC to reply to those who applied for spring 2011. I applied and it's sooo hard waiting for reply from them. Anyone applied?
