Anyone applying to Lone Star College System?

U.S.A. Texas

I applied to the ADN program a couple weeks ago. I have 11.66 Points. Anyone else?

i've applied to north harris as my first choice, montgomery, tomball, then cy-fair. i have 11.27 points. i've been so nervous because i'm not sure if i have enough points to make it. the hesi wasn't too bad. i scored 100 on the math, 94.5 on grammar, but i didn't do that great on reading 89.36. and to think all this time i was worried about the math section.

does anyone know if the information session is mandatory at north harris? on one section of the website it says the info session is required, but then when you look at the times of the sessions, it says it is strongly recommended. when i call the dept, no one seems to answer.

I don't know that it is mandatory, just highly encouraged. I don't remember them taking roll when I went to the info. session, so I don't think they track who has/has not been. I think they encourage people to attend to cut down on the e-mails and phone calls with questions about the program.

I thought I calculated my score by hand correctly at 10.9939... However, after they uploaded my AP course grade, my overall score is 11.0596 now. I hope this is really enough to get me at least an alternate spot.

I know misserella8036 stated that cut-off was 10.8 last fall, but I talked to Ms. Porter in person... she scared me with the numbers 11.1 and 11.2 are typical numbers for cut off.

paul just be optimistic and maintain a positive attitude. you'll make it into the program! and remember there are 4 schools to choose from, so you are bound to get into one of them.

okay, my apologies, but i guess this will end up being a long post....:anbd:

:plsebeg:i have a 11.3596 and i am extremely nervous about getting into the program.

i went to one of the information sessions and was told you had to have at least an eleven but it really all depends on what everyone else has for their scores.

example: if they end up with 100 applications with a score of 11.5 to 12 then they will be the ones that make it (the cut off being 11.5), however if they have 100 applications with scores from 11 to 12 then obviously it will drop down to a cut off at 11. unfortunately, there is really no way of knowing until it is all over and done with because you don't really know what you are up against. hopefully, that made sense, lol.:twocents:

i am right there with you stressing :sstrs:out like you wouldn't believe. i have already completed my physical, blood work and all of my immunizations but 1 hep shot and of course my bls. so i don't know what i will do if i get rejected but i am not going to dwell on it, i am going to go out and start looking for my supplies and checking things out.

hopefully, this won't be me, avatar_ani_075.gif but i will just have to get up dry myself off and start looking into the emt-basic for this summer. (if i don't get in)

just keep your head up and think positive, 51.gifi pray a lot and have given it over to him (well trying anyway). i have my sunday school class and everyone i know praying, if it is meant to be then it will be!

ok, more than two cents worth, but there you have it!:D

KCn Texas,

if you don't get it and decide to take the EMT-basic program this summer you will not be wasting your time. The course will help prepare you for nursing, especially the emergency medicine aspect of nursing which sometimes gets glossed over in the ADN program. In addition an EMT-B certification will allow you to skip the first semester of the ADN program (the into. to healthcare class which is usually offered durring the summer). Hopefully you will get into the nursing program, but if you don't this class will help broaden your knowledge base while you wait to re-apply.

Hello Future Lone Star Student Nurses...

I am currently in my first semester at Kingwood. I was accepted with an 11.448. Because Kingwood received a grant, they admitted 30 additional students so a lot of the alternates were admitted up until the 2 week of the program. Don't stress too much!! Kingwood is also offering an on-line option for those who have a bachelor's degree.

Just a bit of info for you all...if you are interested in becoming a LVN after your third semester and continuing on to complete the fourth semester for your RN, only Montgomery college will allow you to do this. The most nurturing of all is Kingwood...no scare tactics or weeding out speeches. They really go out their way to help you along in the program.

Becoming a CNA really helps you in the clinical aspect as well as EMT. One strong piece of advice is to get a NCLEX exam book and study it. The way the questions are for nursing school is totally based on the NCLEX questions. These questions are scenario based if you may. Different from the other disciplines, these are application and critical thinking questions not just knowledge questions. Good Luck to you all!!!

Actually, you can sit for the NCLEX-PN before the third semester by attending extra clinicals in the summer between the 2nd and 3rd semester at Montgomery. I haven't heard anything about sitting for the PN after the third semester- I guess it might be possible but it seems a bit pointless unless one simply wants the practice. I mean, by the time you'd recieve your LPN you'd be 3 months from graduating with the RN.

You are very correct. I was counting the summer semester as number 3. Thanks for the clarification. There are a couple of Montgomery students that are LVN's at my clinical site that are now completing their last semester. I wish Kingwood would have offered this option but they are offering us the option of attending summer classes in 09 so that would be our last semester instead of going through until December. This would give us a slight break before those new graduate nurse programs at the hospitals we will be applying to begin in January.

i didn't know montgomery offered the option to become an lvn during athe adn program. north harris also allows the option to become an lvn after the summer session following the first year of clinicals. i've heard that the professors at montgomery are very helpful. i wonder which program would be better for me, north harris or montgomery.

depends on which. i don't want to get myself in trouble, but i'll just say some are more helpful than others, and which one you end up with as far as your clinical instructor is luck of the draw.

yeah i've heard pros and cons about all the schools and it pretty much boils down to which instructor you get. i'm going to stay prayerful and believe that whichever nursing school i'm accepted to, i will get through it. the deadline for lone star college system has passed, so now the anticipation begins. i believe they are going to send letters out the first week in april. good luck to all who applied!
