Hi!
I am trying to start a thread for people applying to the Lansing Community College Nursing Program Spring 2010!
Any and all posters welcome!
Crystal
Does anyone know if the point cutoff is lower for the part time program? If so, what was it this year? Thanks!!
Hi Lee! The points for the part-time program are the same as for the full-time program. When someone fills out their selective admission application, they have a couple of different options. They can choose 2-year track only, 3-year track only, 2-year preferred will accept 3-year or 3-year preferred will accept 2-year.
With the above options, if the person is low on their points but still high enough to get into the program then they would have a spot. Because of the above options however the points are the same for both. As for the points going up each year, honestly I do not know if 80 will be enough next year. Not all of the people with 80 points got into the program this year, and with the points going up each year it is really hard to say. I do know tha
t the point totals are getting ridiculous and it is going to be impossible for some people to get into the program ever.
I would suggest that if starting the program next year is your goal, to look around at different programs around the area such as Baker or even MSU. I do wish you the best of luck and I hope you are able to get into the program of your choice.

Lee,
Yeah, I am in the exact same predicament. I have 2 classes this summer (SOCL and SPCH) and 4 classes in the fall (BIO202, BIO203, PSYC205, and CHSE100) and I would basically have to 4.0 all of these, use the CHSE100 for the 2 points, and volunteer and I'll have 82 pts. I don't know how realistic this will be seeing that I'd have to 4.0 everything here on out. UGH! But if everything goes according to plan, I'd pray that 82 would be enough.
Anyone offer thoughts, suggestions...?

Hey Kingcody, looking over the classes you are going to take I think you might have a very good shot at getting a 4.0 in all of them. I just finished taking SOCL online over Spring semester. It will be a lot of reading but the content is really not that difficult. I have not taken SPCH yet but heard that it is a pretty good class. As for Fall semester, PSYC205 I took with the most awesome instructor in the world and the class is a breeze. She will do anything and everything to make sure you understand content for the class. Also with BIO202 and 203, I do not see you having a really hard time taking the classes together because they really go hand in hand. You will need the things you learn in one class in the other so I think it will work out to your advantage taking them together. And CHSE100? I also took that class as an online/hybrid and it was the easiest class I have taken so far. And I have no health background at all.
Try not to stress out too much and just take it one step at a time. You will be very busy this summer and this fall but it will all be worth it. Good Luck to you!

Crystal,
Thank you. It's reassuring to hear that. But my friend who just got accepted this Spring said the cut off was 80 and she's pretty sure it will go up more next year, so 82 may not be enough. Maybe I'll have to give up my dream of starting next fall (2011)... kind of crushed. I just can't imagine that it will be too much higher... it's getting the point of impossible. 82 points is the absolute most I could have before next admission date. What are your thoughts?

Really? The letter I got said not until the end of July.
I got the same letter but called Selective Admissions and was told that Selective Admissions would send the applicant information over to the Nursing Dept this week and that the Nursing Dept would probably send letters the following week.

I'm not sure if that makes the wait anxiety better or worse :) Good luck to you! Hopefully we'll meet at orientation!

I just typed a great big reply and then accidently hit the back button and lost it all:mad: so I will try once more. With the points being as high as they are now I just don't see them getting much higher because they are almost unobtainable now. I mean to get in this year it seems like you needed to live in the area to get the extra 5 points, have a previous degree for points and then have at least the volunteer experience to get in. I had all three and pulled off 85 points but even if I waited another year to apply I would still only have 85 points because that is the absolute most I could get.
The health careers pathways were not offered in my high school, I do not have a health related MOS in the military, and I have no previous experience because I don't have the degree or experience to get a job to get the experience. It is a catch 22 situation.
It seems to me that 82 points would be ok because how high can it go? Who has all of those things? But so very many people apply to LCC's program every year it is impossible to tell. I truly hope for you that it is enough but it is really impossible to say. One thing that might help you is if you are able to, apply to the part-time 3-year program as well as the full-time. The 3 year program is the less preferred program and people are able to get into it fairly easily. It still requires the same amount of points but so many people are only willing to do the 2 year that most alternatives are able to get in.
I do wish you the best of luck though and if you ever have any other questions, please let me know and I will try to help you in anyway I can.
Good Luck,
Crystal

Hi, I have just recently decided to apply to LCC's program in March 2011. Since I only have 2 semesters (this summer and this Fall) to complete prereqs, it will be tight. If I end up with a 3.5, I calculated that I will have 80 points. I don't think I can get a 3.75 without retaking a couple classes, and I won't have time for that. My question is: since the cutoff was 80 points this year, and it seems to go up every year, I fear that 80 points won't be enough. I would be willing to do the part time program if I could get into that instead. Does anyone know if the point cutoff is lower for the part time program? If so, what was it this year? Thanks!!
