Anyone Applying to Delta College for Spring 2011

Published

With only 4 weeks until we can start applying, I thought that it would be nice to start a new thread so that we can all keep in touch, pass along information, and post our stats.

hi slrberry, i got mine at the fitting also. kind of hard to believe they were $8 each (and i needed two since i'll have two shirts). oh well, it's still worth it, just to be in the program :)

i tried just now to register for eng33a, the study skills class, and it says it's full so i'm waitlisted. i called the health sciences division, forgetting that it's break for them. their message said they won't be back until jan 10, when school starts. since the class is strongly recommended i'm assuming i'll be added, right? i know in the packet it says you can be added on the first day of the class, so i hope that's right and they have a big enough classroom for everyone.

:yeah:congratulations to all of you all for getting accepted into sjdc nursing program, this is really going to be the greatest semester for all of you. i am so excited and eager to being working with you all and i look forward to an amazing semester with all you guys in the near future. i am currently in my 4th semester at sjdc. the time will slip by you guys all so fast and before you guys know it you will be in your last semester. the journey that awaits you ahead is an amazing journey and you make long lasting relationships and unforgettable memories. :nurse:

have you tried sending the instructor for the eng 33a class a e-mail yet? i would recommend doing that and of course show up the first day of class. she might have a spot open.

has everybody got their textbooks / stethoscope or still in the process in getting them? who is planning on using a pda or ipod-touch throughout nursing school?

which do you recommend?? i was thinking about getting a pda..is it worth it?? i got my stethscope but not my textbooks yet...

I have found a bunch of apps on my iPhone that I'm excited about using!

yes!! you can use either one. i started off with a hp-211(big in size) and then switched over to an ipod-touch (smaller in size). the reason i asked is b/c skyscape offers a discount to sjdc nursing students. you will get a 25% discount on skyscape software. i would highly recommend to get the nursing constellation plus package. this includes several books and will save you time in looking up your drugs while in clinical. plus you don’t have to carrying all those full size drug and lab book to clinical to receive this special discount, please use san joaquin delta college portal at skyscape

another website you can view is epocrates at www.epocrates.com/products/. this website offer free apps that are also very useful.

if you check itunes and type in the search box "skyscape medical resources" you can also download a few apps, but sometimes it doesn't allow you to get the full version. the great thing about skyscape is it allows you to link all your programs, so you can hop back and forth between them.

fyi ~ if you decide to purchase anything for skyscape makes sure you select the "1 year standard option" and not the 1 year subscription. the reason for this is b/c the standard option you will own it forever, but the down fault will be no updates after 1 year (but drugs really don't change that much), whereas if you choose the 1 year subscription is will disappear after a year just like a magazine. the better choose would be the standard option ~ saves money in the long run.

Hopefully the week of the 10th when we take Eng 33A won't be busy since the semester doesn't really start until the 18th. Did anyone recieve an email with the Payment Code for ATI????? I did not and I just went on the website to pay but need the payment code.

DreamsDoComeTrue... are we allowed to use our Iphones? Do we take all our books to all our classes? It took me three trips to my car to get all the books from the bookstore to the car, I'm wondering how we manage to get them all to every class... Thanks for the heads up on Skyscape

Do the hospitals has wi-fi for IPod Touch.

I'm leaning towards getting an iPhone 4 for school. I know we can use them at Lodi Memorial, but not sure about anywhere else. I looked into the iPod Touch but those have cameras/videocameras on them also so it seems like the same thing to me. Any thoughts?

Hi Kristi,

Did you figure this out? Julie sent us an email on 12/14 with a PDF attachment that told us the payment code and class code.

sbnrn2b ~ yes you are allowed to use iphones, but it really depends on the clinical hospital & instructor you have. for example: sjgh - is the only hospital i know that doesn’t allow students to use a camera device on it. go with what you feel comfortable with and that will save you $$. no you don’t need to take all your books to class. you might want to bring your fundamentals book to class is you like, but all the instructors will post their powerpoint’s up on the docushare website. just print those and bring them to class.

as for the other books you will use for your clinical days at the hospital to look up your pt information and to use on your careplans. you really won’t be using the med-surg book until n2. have you been to the docushare website yet???
