Anyone Applying to Delta College for Spring 2011

U.S.A. California

With only 4 weeks until we can start applying, I thought that it would be nice to start a new thread so that we can all keep in touch, pass along information, and post our stats.

RNBound, the main counselor who is in charge of the nursing program can be found on the counseling website. if you call the counseling center they can tell you who the other counselor is who is also familiar with the program, because he used to be in charge of counseling students for the program, but he can answer any questions that you have. He is really awesome. He gave me a lot of great resources when i went to see him last semester about the program. Sorry i cant post their names, but i just you a private message.

RNBound, have you heard if Sutter is continuing the extended program. i looked on their website and it doesn't have any info past fall 2010. i was interested in that program. i was also planning on apllying to sac city and ARC as well.

Roxy, you dont have to submit any of your transcripts or other info until after they review your info, if you are selected to submit it. I went in to their walk in counseling last week, and one of the counselors looked into this very question for me. They just advise you to have everything in hand, ie transcripts, course descriptions etc, so that if you are asked, it can be submitted quickly. He also gave me the Q and A from the website which confirms this.

Thanks for the message, slrberry. I talked to someone earlier in the summer about the Sutter extended program and they said they were 'most likely' going to be accepting applications, but nothing definite on their website yet. I'm hoping! I keep checking periodically, but we'll probably see something after Sept 1st since that's when SCC and ARC said they'll post on their websites as well.

Roxy, I haven't taken courses at Delta either. I'm assuming we need course descriptions only for prereqs. I'd like to talk to the counselor to see how strict they are about what they'll accept. Because one of my course descriptions came via email and it was a pdf and nowhere on the description does it say the college or catalog year.

RNbound i called the number on the Sutters extended campus' website and the message says they are not planning on continuing the program. I know they said that before as well, so hopefully they change their mind.

I checked SCCs website today and the application dates are now posted.

I also have a course description for one of the prerequisites that I took at another school, and it is also PDF with no school name or year. i was planning on asking about that when i go to my apt on the 30th. If you find out before me, I'd really like to hear what they say about that.

My course descriptions from Sac State don't have the catalog year on them either. I asked the counselor about that & he said it's fine; he just told me to write the catalog year next to the school name. All of my course descriptions came from PDF also. I think most colleges are publishing their catalogs electronically now so hopefully PDF version is accepted. Can you guys let me know what your counselors say about that? Thanks.

This is off topic, but are you guys receiving financial aid for this school year? I was just wondering because I'm getting financial aid at Sac State, but if I get accepted to Delta I'm not sure how I can transfer it there. If you have any info or feedback I'd appreciate it. I should really go to the school and talk to the financial aid office, but I live in Sac so it's pretty far from here. I'll probably go there once I find out if I'm officially accepted.

Hi Roxy, hopefully they'll take the .pdf course description. And definitely if and when I get a counseling appt I'll ask about it. Tried again this morn at 6am and no luck.

Regarding financial aid, I get some financial aid, and when I need the information transferred to another college I go to the FAFSA website and enter that school's code and the financial aid office takes it from there. There's never been any problem with that, but you can always talk to their financial aid office if you have questions.

Thanks RNBound. Are u also taking classes at a different college in Fall? Should I add Delta on my FAFSA now just in case or wait til I get accepted? I just don't want to miss any deadlines.

Hi Roxy, For the fall I'm taking Speech at CRC (hopefully I'll get in since I'm on a wait list) and intermediate algebra online at Santa Barbara CC. Doesn't hurt to add Delta now and probably better so the financial aid office will have time to process everything.

Thanks.

So i went to a counseling appointment today and I was advised to attach a copy of the front cover of the course catalog to the course description, since many course descriptions do not have the name of the school or the cataog year.

I was also told that their 1st alternate list was 30 students and they went through the entire first list of alternates. The main reason that they went through so many, was because many students accepted offers from other schools, but did not inform the school until days before classes began, and the other students were not able to provide the proper documentation verification. I was told that stundents are given a check list of items to include for verification and although they checked the list, saying that the items were included, they were not. The bottom score for the final alternate starting this fall was 64.5.

Thanks for the info slrberry!

slrberry & rnbound, how was the TEAS today? I hope you did well!

Thanks! I did ok. I got 83.5 and I am taking it again tomorrow, but I am happy with this score. My overall points for applying to the program is 74.5, unless I do better tomorrow.

Did either of you already apply for Sac City and ARC. I applied to ARC and sent off my paperwork, and I will be applying to SSC tomorrow. I emailed them a question and I'm just waiting to hear back from them.
