Anyone Applying to Antelope Valley College RN program

U.S.A. California

I didn't see a thread on AVC nursing so I just made one for everyone. IS anyone applying to AVC nursing or in the program already? The person working at the department told me it would be like 3 semester waits. I'm expecting to get in around fall 2011 or spring 2012 since I turn in my application around October 2010. Anyone in the program already, would you please share your experience. Anyone who is about to get in the program, can you please tell me how long you've waited since the time you turn in the application?

Thanks everyone!!!

About 30 minutes ago,I got a call from one of the program coordinators...and it looks like they're reducing the number of students for the Fall.

We'll see!

oh shoot are you serious??? So thats means it will actually take longer for us to get in now. Last time i check im #110. considering they take 60 students per semester, i would get in within like 2 semester. If theyre just taking 40 students then most likely it wont be till third/fourth semester. Oh man, i hope i still can get in the spring 2012! If not, maybe i should consider transfering. I think ill go to the department and talk to them, just to know wats going on and where i am standing. thanks for the info

The dean always pushes for as many seats as possible. Our base was 60 students, but I believe we took in 71 total.

Back in my pre-req days, the base was 80 students a semester. Students were waiting one or two semesters max. Then budget cuts came about and I believe it was Fall of 09 that they cut their base in half. It was only 40 for that one semester, but it did affect some students in that they did wait for an entire three semesters. I was lucky enough to only have to wait two.

I was speaking with a classmate earlier and she had mentioned she had spoken with the secretaries about what would happen if a 1st student semester failed. They pretty much told her not to because she'd be put right back at the end of the waiting list and to expect an even longer wait since they did confirm their base was being reduced to 40 for next sem.

If this is the case, I would hope it would only affect one semester.

They'll probably end up taking 60 students since the base "will be" 40. I still don't think it's going to happen.

hi everyone,

I just ask the department and yes, she said that they are only taking in 40 students for this fall and the coming spring semester. She said that it is more likely that youre going to be waiting a bit longer, possibly another semester. Hopefully, I can still get in the spring 2012.

this SUCKS. :banghead:

keep your heads up, everyone. there's still a chance that things change for the better.

Today I received my acceptance letter for fall 2011!!! I'm sooo excited. I applied may 2010 so it is taking about 3 semesters to start. For those of you still waiting keep your heads up. The 3 semester wait goes by quicker than you think.

Hey brittany 2241,

congratulation!!! Happy for you!!!! Wow, you only have to wait 2 semester since your getting into fall 2011. Is that a letter to take the teas test to get into fall 2011 or you hav already taken the tease and will be offically starting the program in fall? Cuz i got a letter two months ago about being accepted into fall 2011 but i need to take the tease first. anyways i turn it down and told them I wont be able to get into the program until spring 2012 so i wont be taking the tease until somewhre in sept.

Thanks Munkeyann! I took the teas in February and this letter is an acceptance to start the program in august. I was like #11 on the list when I looked @ the information meeting. Yes I guess it was technically 2 semesters. Good Luck on your teas in september and I hope you can start the program ASAP

Hi, I was just wondering how the drug and background screening are done. Like did you pay for the services and what forms are needed...or did the school provided that. Plus what did they request for the physicals and what kind of titer shot are needed...I am just wondering so I know how much money and time to allot. Thanks.

Specializes in MedSurge/Tele/Observation.

Do the drug screen at the Care-A-Van that goes to the school, call the health office and set up and appointment, it's only $10 copay, bc if you got Kaiser they usually don't do the 10 panel. The background is like 60 dollars and it's done online, they'll give you the information at the first session. The physical you can also have it done at the Care-A-Van that same day you go get your background, and they will give you the form that needs to get filled out. The titers are for the chicken pox (varicella), MMR, and you'll also need to do a 2 step TB check, so first time they'll give you the TB test and about a week later or so another TB. Also, you'll need a Tetorifice done, and the Influenza but I don't think they are giving any now, so you'll just have to get it when flue season comes along. Hope that helps.

thanks skybmonkey...:)
