Anybody here in a sorority?

Published

Are there any nursing students out there that are currently in a sorority? Preferably any Delta Gammas out there?

I pledged Delta Gamma last fall and I absolutely love it. I got into the nursing program for this fall and I couldn't be anymore excited!!!! :yeah: *HOWEVER* I'm really worried that I'm not going to have time for sorority activities because I know that I'll be too busy studying. I am aware that nursing school is tough and it is very demanding compared to a lot of other majors (and I am ready to accept this challenge!!!). So for those that are greek...is it doable? did you end up quitting? ANY help would be great.

Thanks everyone!

Yep, I was in Alpha Xi Delta and quit 2 years after pledging because of personal and not nursing school reasons. I recently graduated from a BSN nursing school. There were about 5 nursing student friends that were involved in the greek system throughout nursing school.

One person was even president of their sorority while they were finishing nursing school. You can definitely be in nursing school and have extracurricular activites. You just need to have priorities set and have good organization and time management skills. Good luck in school. Nursing school can drag and fly by at the same time. Just tackle each obstacle one at a time and you will succeed. :twocents:

I was/am a DG, too. However, I wasn't majoring in nursing when I pledged and finished up my first degree. There were several girls in my chapter who were nursing majors and seemed to turn up at most of the chapter functions. However, I don't know that I would have been able to do it! Nursing school is very easy now that it's my second degree and I've gotten the urge to go out and party out of my system! If you stay focused, you can do it, though. Plus, you should let your officers know what kind of time commitment a nursing degree requires, and they should be understanding (hopefully!) if you are unable to make it to certain events. In fact, most sororities place a higher priority on your grades rather than if you miss a meeting or two. But time management is the key to fitting it all in!

Thank you so much! :heartbeat

I guess I'll just have to try it out first and see how it goes. I really would like to stay but school comes first!

I was/am a ZTA when I did my first degree. I can't imagine how I would have fit everything in if I had been in Zeta and in NS at the same time, and Im just in prereq's now. We didnt have a nursing program at my undergrad school, but there WERE sisters with very demanding majors. We had several engineering majors and several Cell and Molecular Bio and Genetics majors and somehow, we managed to have the #1 GPA on campus for 5 semesters in a row! As far as doing clinicals, the closest thing we had were education majors doing student teaching, which is ALSO very demanding. We had several sisters go inactive when they were student teaching, but we actually had a sister serve as President while she was student teaching, so it can de done! Remember, academic achievement is a MAJOR goal of greek life in general. I am sure your chapter will be understanding about your academic demands.

Zeta Phi Beta for my first degree.....I was a junior and I was majoring in Psychology. Trust and believe...if i was a nursing major I would not have been able to do it....Now that I am in NS, I don't have time for anything, don't worry you can enjoy sorority life after you are done with the program. :)

Nah, none of the sororities would let me in, for some reason. :(
