I was wondering if there were any young african american travel nurses and which assignement did u enjoy the most? On my first assignment and I'm not enjoying myself. I want to know the best places to go.
I am a young 23yo AA female and I currently have 8mo RN experience out of Chicago on a Hematology/Oncology/Stem Cell Transplant unit. I just took my chemo class so that I can be certified to give Chemotherapy and Biotherapy. I am interested in traveling to NY, CA, FL, possibly TX. My yr will be up in August and I just began to strongly consider traveling starting this yr. The lease to my apt is up at the same time...If I decided to just stay here, it wouldn't be until about Aug 2014 that I would consider a travel assignment again just because I wouldn't want to have an apt here, while I'm living somewhere else. I know someone who traveled after a yr and loves it. I'm just nervous and don't know if I'll ever be sure of when I'm ready!
Hey everyone!!! I'm a young AA female bout to start my first travel assignment next week in Houston with a friend. I'm glad someone posted this thread it's great to see lots of young AA RN's! which hospital/ specialty in Houston? Did you take the company housing or the stipend? Sorry so many questions. I am just trying to figure out my next steps after the contract I am currently in. I am probably heading to Dallas in July, but am closely considering Houston or Atlanta as well.
Lovelymo79.....do you like the companies you are working with? which is the best in your opinion?
Hey! I haven't started traveling yet so I can't give a full opinion on them yet. So far everyone has been cool but no assignment has been involved yet....lol. I'm with On Assignment, Fastaff, Nursechoice and Texas Select.
I think everyone has their different opinion on what classifies as the best. I am looking for certain things and if a certain agency doesn't supply that, I won't classify them as the best. You may be looking for totally different things.
Which ones are you with? We are looking to travel around the same time. Keep in touch!
Ok...I finally took the plunge and signed up tonight with Faststaff. Due to life changes, I am so ready to do this. I am awaiting to speak with a recruiter because I would like 8 week assignments and want to start Feb-Mar of 2014. Besides, I need a change of scenery, plus a new social environment.
I am about to turn 39 years old, never been married (although have a desire to) and I have a teenager. I'm looking for great opportunities and the ability to create great memories and hopefully find that special someone along the way. If someone else is in this boat, I would love to hear your experiences.
HI im a young AA travel RN (just turned 26)... I took my first travel assignment in March and its 13 weeks long. So far the experience is good. The people I work with are nice and easy to get alone with. Plus its several travel nurses where I work. Sometimes it seems like its only travel nurses lol. IM in INdiana!!
Are you guys venturing out of your home states first or trying to get your feet wet in your own state. As much as I want to ball out in Cali, there is money to be made here in Texas. I'm 2 hours from Dallas, an hour from Austin, 2 hours from San Antonio and about 3 from Houston. I think I may just start here in-state and get used to the idea of traveling. I work local agency in Austin but that is PRN. This would be full-time traveling.

I am traveling with a friend so we are sharing a 2 bedroom with company housing. And so far so good. I really like where they put us up at and have already meet other travelers at our hospital and are staying in the same complex (just downstairs actually!!) I think I answered small lemme know if you have more!!
