Any other WSU College of Nursing Applicants for Fall 2011 out there?

Published

Hello all. Just trying to see if there are any other students waiting to see if they have been asked to interview for a spot in the WSU CoN for fall 2011. I know that interviews will take place two Saturdays next month but have no idea when the school sends out notices to interview. If you are a current student in the program I would love to pick your brain about the school itself. Best of luck to all on ultimately getting into the program.

i know it may seem like they only take traditional students but i have a friend in the program now and 6 of the 10 people in her clinical group have families and are returning students. also another one of my good friends got in and she is a returning student, has a husband and kids and a lot going on in her life but she got in. i applied for fall 2011; i'm a traditional student and had a 3.7 gpa, got an interview but didn’t get accepted. it’s hard to say exactly what they are looking for because from all the info i've gathered none of it seems to make sense. just have to put your best foot forward and hope for the best (the interview is more important than they tell you)

also, wsu has made gpa a top priority because so many people apply to the school and it’s so competitive they have to have something to start weeding people out.

I know quite a few people in class with me now that were on the waitlist so all is not lost. One guy didn't find out he got in off the waitlist until a week before classes started. With so many applicants to the program WSU can afford to place so much emphasis on GPA. While GPA doesn't ensure someone will make a great nurse, the school views past academic performance as a good indicator of future success in their program. I hope to hear that you get in.

Thanks for the insight, I'm just mad because I gave up my job to get the extra prereq's out of the way and I worked my butt off to get 4.0's in almost all my classes. But even if I don't get in, I will still come back for my BSN when the time comes.

My best friend was wait listed for Fall 2011 and ended up getting a spot due to someone else declining their spot. Fingers crossed for ya!

I don't remember WSU ever having "well rounded students" in the entry criteria. Getting an interview here is ALL about the GPA. You're grades are not the problem or you would not have gotten the interview in the first place. The interview process is used to weed out people who lack the "right" personality to be a nurse, people who don't really want to be a nurse, people who can't carry on a conversation with others, people who don't dress/act professionally, etc. There are many "non-traditional" students attending WSU CON. You not getting accepted has absolutely nothing to do with that. Don't give up if nursing is your dream, but you probably could work on that attitude. Based on your post, you sound arrogant and as if you think you are entitled to a spot. If I were you, I'd think really hard about your interview and how you presented yourself and see if there is something you could have done differently. You might even ask the people who interviewed you if there is something you could have done better.

Thanks but they told me on the phone it was my GPA. I wasn't trying to sound arrogant, but you certainly do! I wasn't implying that I should be "entitled" to a spot, I just said I was disappointed! You don't have any idea what I've been through this year so don't proclaim you "know" it was my attitude or my interview. I've had a hell of year and I'm ****** about it, who are you to tell me why I didn't get in? And by the way, when I attended the interview prep they told all of us that WSU was looking for well rounded students. Maybe you should get your facts straight before you start throwing accusations.
