Any other WSU College of Nursing Applicants for Fall 2011 out there?

Published

Hello all. Just trying to see if there are any other students waiting to see if they have been asked to interview for a spot in the WSU CoN for fall 2011. I know that interviews will take place two Saturdays next month but have no idea when the school sends out notices to interview. If you are a current student in the program I would love to pick your brain about the school itself. Best of luck to all on ultimately getting into the program.

Ahh sometimes the most direct route is the obvious solution:) I will call them Monday and see if I can get some guidance. Thanks for the support:)

It never hurts to ask. Even if the answer is still a no, you'll at least know that you exhausted all your options. I'd rather go down swinging, than go do looking if you catch my drift.

As far as the Chemistry professor that was giving out A's... sure would have been nice of him to give me one lol. I earned mine from my own blood, sweat, and tears. Perhaps that's why it was an A- :(

I took chemistry at Eastern and I must not have had this so called easy professor. The professor I had was no joke and he was not liked very much but I thought he was fair. I sat next to girls that texted and talked constantly during class and they were the first ones saying that his grading wasn't fair and that they were going to leave bad feedback on him for the class evaluations.

All is definitely not lost Cmiles5219. The timeline to reach your goals may take a little longer than expected but when you get there it will have been worth it :D

Amnstokes is my hero by the way.

At least you're learning :D

I had a similar experience. The Chemistry prof I had is well-known around our campus to be quite a hard-ass. He even mentions that on his first day. He rode us very hard, but he also taught us well and pushed us to our limits. He was quick to toss people out of lab if they weren't prepared and treated people like adults and held them accountable. I really took a new understanding to chemistry and can quite nicely draw benzine rings :)

On another note... I would also look into the other nursing programs. WSU isn't the be-all-end-all for programs. I'm not trying to discourage you, but you have to look out for yourself. Knowing you only have a 3.4 and that WSU strongly bases things off a GPA scale, perhaps UW might be another option. GPA's only account for 20% of the scale for your acceptance. They look for what they call a "well-rounded" student. There is a podcast you can listen on their site that'll give you tons of great information about what they're looking for. The speaker even says in her 11 years of being an advisor, she's never accepted a 4.0 student. It doesn't hurt to shop around!

The only reason I say this is because that's exactly what I did. I'm coming from the absolute opposite end of the state to WSU because I played my hand in what I think is a better way. I know we all have our own issues and may not be able to travel, but looking into other BSN programs might be another option. I'll admit WSU wasn't my very first option, but I did the research and figured out what would work best for my personal situation. Then I went from there and I had a backup plan and a backup plan to that backup plan. I'm not trying to discourage you about your schooling, but show you of the many options that you have.

Don't use this experience to bring you down, use it to drive you even harder and make you give that extra push in order to make your dreams come true. If you think you're good enough, KNOW you're good enough and then PROVE you are!!

So I'm going to admit that I have been "thread stalking" this one. I also applied to WSU College of Nursing way back when. My interview was the 16th. I was only 19 at the time so I was a absolute nervous wreck no matter how many people told me I was going to get in. (It was a really great early birthday present but it made my birthday awful to get through because I spent it waiting for my letter.)The ladies at the interview were REALLY understanding and so nice. They asked me why I felt I was ready to go into the program and while explaining it I started crying. One of the interviewers starting crying at that point too. I left feeling more nervous than when I went in. I also sent small Thank You cards to all of the ladies for their time.

I got my acceptence letter nearly had a panic attack. I'm so excited ^-^ I will be attending at the Yakima campus come Fall.

As far as the GPA question. I had a 3.85 due to a couple B+ grades from some REALLY intense instructors. (I worked really hard for those grades though so I feel no shame because I know I did my best.)

Congrats to everyone who got in and goodluck to all future applicants/waitlisted applicants.

Congrats Schayla on getting in! Reading about your interview was touching and I am happy all worked out well.

Being at the Spokane campus I hope I am able to be a student ambassador for future candidates. The student that showed my wife and I around was great and definitely put me at ease before my interview.

Oh absolutely!! I will do whatever it takes to be an ambassador. The girl that showed me around was so laid back and easygoing. I wonder if they know how much of a difference it made.

Here's to a great school year and looking towards the future! I'll see you in August, T!

I'm happy to report that I'm off the waiting list and have been accepted at WSU- Tri-Cities. I was a bit stressed after not getting accepted initially after the interview and wondered why I wasn't chosen when I had known other students with lower GPA's did get accepted. I knew I couldn't have bombed the interview that badly. Lol.

Anyways the stress is over about getting accepted and now I look forward to the stress the program will bring and can't wait to conquer it. Especially knowing a friend who I believe will be great studying partner will be attending in the fall with me will make the transition less stressful. I actually received a call from WSU on the Friday before the long Memorial Day weekend, but was unable to return the call until after the office was closed. I ran through so many theories of why they may have been calling, but kept thinking positive and was hoping for the best. The weekend went by fast, thankfully, and the call was the best news I could've received. I'm very thankful.

For anyone still on the waiting list...stay strong and hopefully a call will come your way too. =)

That's great news! I look forward to seeing your smiling face through the screen come day one!

Did they offer any insight as to why you were waitlisted? That's very curious indeed but like they always say, a win is still a win :) Congratulations to you and here's to new opportunities!

How technology has changed our classrooms. Lol. Will definitely take some getting use to.

When I got the phone call that I was accepted, I didn't ask any questions, I was just extremely happy that I didn't have to worry about what my Plan B would be. I know when I got the news after the interview that I was waitlisted I pondered why my interview may have not have gone over so as well as others. I was the second interview on the first day and felt maybe I just didn't stand out enough by the end of that 2nd weekend.

I will admit, I felt extremely foolish for forgetting to send the professors who interviewed me a thank you card. By the time I remembered I thought it was too late, then I got waitlisted, and felt it wouldn't hurt me by sending them late now, so I did. Thankfully they were all so gracious and I remember their names easily. I also sent a letter of interest to the Asst. Dean and along with the waitlist form I had to send back.

I don't know if it was a coincidence or not that I got called not long after I sent them, but I'd like to think it helped show my interest and my determination to join the program. Now I have plenty of time to get ready for the semester and let the hospital I work at know I'll be cutting my hours way back. This program is definitely going to be my top priority these next two years and I'm excited about that!

WSUTCNS,

Congratulations on getting into the program! Now the fun begins :D Enjoy the Summer and take care.

What gpa is required to get in the College of Nursing WSU Spokane campus? I am currently attending Whitworth, and got a c+ on a required religions course that is not a pre-req for the College of Nursing, but it dropped my overall gpa to a 3.4. Otherwise I have a 3.75......
