Well first off thank you for your service! I served ten years in the Air Force and am also reaping the benefits when it comes to paying for school. I enjoyed my time in as well and plan on serving as a nurse in the military when I'm done. Fun times ahead!

Hey WSUTCNS,

WSU is the only college I applied to outside of Cali (other than UNLV where I have cousins) b/c I used to work in WA before I decided to go back to school for my BSN - and I loved it so much...it's much greener, the air seems cleaner and its surrounded by alot more natural terrain than in LA...plus it rains more (I'm the type that likes it when it rains). I chose Tri-Cities campus b/c its the area that I'm most familiar (I used to live in Kennewick).

However, after much consideration I decided to decline the offer to interview at WSU b/c my financial situation has GREATLY changed from the time I applied to WSU and now. So I simply cannot afford to go to WSU Now I'm trying for a BSN program in Cali close to where my parents live since I can live with them while I'm a nursing student. I called the WSU nursing dept Friday to let them know so that there was still some time to give another hopeful applicant my spot. Good luck to all of you on your interviews! ANd congrats to Amnstokes for getting an interview - I bet you'll nail it since I'm sure you have interesting backgrounds & life experiences to speak of.

I received a letter for the interview with WSU but I wasn't able to do it today because I'm not going to be finished with my pre-req's before Fall 2011 :crying2: . But I'm going to reapply for winter 2012 and hopefully get another shot. Can someone who's gone through the interview give me an idea of the types of questions they ask? Is it like your standard job interview stuff? Do they prefer health care experience? I'm changing careers and have gone from banking to wanting to be a nurse and haven't made the job change to a healthcare setting yet. Maybe by the winter 2012 interviews I will be working in a hospital by then (I hope!!!!). Also hoping they don't focus too much on GPA, I previously got my B.A. @ EWU in business with 3.2GPA. I've been doing my pre-reqs @ community college and have a 3.8 overall now. I wish we could find out exactly what percentage of interviewees get accepted, I'm so anxious about it!

I'm willing to share my experiences regarding the interview when it happens next week. I'd be willing to bet Thomas would as well seeing as he's been this helpful so far.

Thomas, what did you do in the AF? I'm guessing you were stationed at Fairchild and stayed there when you separated? I'm actually pretty stoked to know there will be at least one veteran in the program. Many students don't know what it's like to have a career and then go back to school. I really find work ethic of the majority of students to be a bit lackluster and am glad to know there will be at least one motivated and hard working (I'm sure there will be plenty more, but I'm happy with one from the start). Do you have FB or an email, I'd be curious to ask you a few other questions and perhaps talk of "the good ole days"

That would be awesome if you could! I just want to be as prepared as I can be since I have so much riding on this. I just had to make a really huge painful decision, keep going to school or keep my job. My work was no longer willing to work around the school schedule. Anyway, thanks!

Good luck you guys! I live/work in WA state and WSU grads that I work with say you go in to a panel interview, select an envelope from a hat that includes 3-4 questions. Everyone I've asked seems to say that one of the questions is the obvious "Why do you want to be a nurse?" whereas the rest are more general interview-type questions (3 weaknesses, how you work on a team, etc.)

My best friend just completed an interview this Saturday and feels good about the outcome - now the month long wait to see if it's a Yea or a Nea! Fingers crossed for Yea!

I will be interviewing tomorrow and would definitely be willing to share my experience with anyone wanting to know what the process was like. I will make sure and post here tomorrow after I get back. I remember trying to find info online a couple years back when I got serious about going to WSU for nursing school but not finding much outside of the official school website and wishing there was more. I hope people finding this post in the future get some benefit from it :)

I started out as an Ammo troop (munition systems) and then crosstrained over to be a boom operator on the KC-135 and flew on the jets out of Fairchild for the majority of my time in. I know exactly where you are coming from when you speak of collegiate peers not knowing what it’s like coming to school after having a career. You are also speaking the truth about the observed work ethic seen quite a few students. Having been out in the workforce for ten years after graduating high school, I thought it would be a challenge keeping up with my classmates coming straight out of high school but have found that not to be the case. I guess hearing horror stories of students here with 3.6 GPAs not getting interviews motivated me to work harder than most of my peers. I’m just happy to be this far in the process. It would be a pleasure to get up with you on facebook. Hello All,

Just got done with my interview and it went better than I could have imagined. My wife and I got there about 25 minutes early and got to tour the facilities. Very impressive setup to say the least! The Ambassadors that showed us around were great and as current students were happy to answer any questions we had. When it was time to interview I was invited into a small conference room room where three ladies were all smiling and welcomed me in. One was a learning facilitator at the Spokane Campus, one was a Doctoral student, and one was a J1 instructor there as well. They were all super nice which made for an amazing interview. Right in front of me was a basket of envelopes and I got the honor of picking one with the questions I would be asked. I was very impressed with all the faculty I meet there and am excited for the chance to learn from them.

I have to agree with Thomas. It was pretty laid back and low key. The ambassadors were friendly and told us all to have fun and relax. It was a BEAUTIFUL campus and very nice building. I really hope I get to attend the program because it all was really cool and very clean and professional.

The questions were quite standard and pretty much what I expected. So we'll see what happens. Whether it be good or bad, we're one step further :)
